4703993 tn?1379768388 Wow, with your pulse reacting dramatically, it sounds like no beta blocker would be a good thing, as lowering the pulse rate (which they hope will make the heart pump more effectively and might actually raise the blood pressure) I believe is the reason they even give a beta blocker to someone with P.O.T.S.. I've not had to wear one for that long. The twenty four hour one I recently had going had at least one of the stick-um things making me itch!
Avatar n tn The medication that may be causing you the low heart rate can be the beta blocker and/or digoxin. Did you stop taking digoxin?
Avatar f tn Couple of things: If your rate was indeed 106, that would be the slowest case of SVT I've ever heard of in my 4 years on this forum. Mine was typically 220. SVT rate doesn't vary much. It sets in at a particular rate and stays that way until it or you terminate it. It starts and stops on a dime. It doesn't ramp up and down. Digoxin?? My first SVT episode was when I was 6 years old. They prescribed Digoxin, a leading edge drug at the time. That was back in 1957......
Avatar f tn t like that, so he prescribed 100mg Toprol in the morning (that was the only thing I was taking for heart rate after the cardioversion) to that he added the digoxin at noon and Toprol XR 50 mg (half a pill) in the evening. And he also told me to have the ablation to cure the flutter. My concern is that my rate even on all those meds is much higher than it was when j first had the procedure. It is slowly but surely climbing, from 91bpm yesterday at the ER to now 98bpm. Is that normal?
Avatar n tn When I got to the hospital they ran tests and noted that I had no level of digoxin in my blood. While in the ER I fell asleep and my heart rate went up to 160bpm. They gave me a beta blocker and a shot of digoxin and told me I had tachycardia. I went to my cardiologist, she increased my digoxin from .25 to .375 and told me that my potassium level was on the lower end of normal to eat a banana or drink a glass of OJ daily.
Avatar m tn her heart rhythm appears to have regularised but her pulse rate has dropped to 42-46 p.m. and she has lost a lot ef energy. She has been taken off all medication except warfarin (5 mg pd) Where do we go from here?
Avatar n tn Some doctors prescribe digoxin for irregular heartbeat, but monitor heart rate and kidney function closely. I hope the digoxin perspective helps you make the right decision. Take care. Cardiovascular side effects have been reported the most frequently.
Avatar n tn Digoxin is a medication which is used for heart rate control in atrial fibrillation, It has been shown to keep people out of the hospital successfully, but has never been shown to decrease mortality. So if yous top taking it you may have worsening heart rate control, palpitations, possibly pass out (syncope), and could develop a breathlessness or even a cardiomyopathy. Speak to your cardiologist about the reasons why you want to spot this medication.
Avatar m tn i also experience the same thing, what could it be when sometimes it will wake me up and it will feel as if my pulse is racing 100000 bpm, but I will feel my pulse and it will be REALLY slow with long pauses inbetween, but beating forcefully and then eventually will start going fast and i awake with shortness of breath?I only experience that kind when I'm woken from them, which is usually every night. I also can feel them while Im half asleep (dreaming) and then will awaken with them.
Avatar f tn I have some Afib and some PAC's, my doc said Digoxin and Toprol do the same thing, I chose the Digoxin. Does anyone take the Digoxin for these conditions and it works? Which do you think is better?
Avatar m tn My doctor was very surprised because he had never seen atrial fibrillation in a young adult. My doctor prescribed digoxin and my heart rhythm returned to normal. About six months ago I moved to a different state. I recently went to a new doctor to have my digoxin levels checked and he noticed that my afib had returned. He was concerned because digoxin would not have been his choice of treatment and he said I should have also been taking aspirin or a blood thinner.
Avatar n tn I emailed my cardio and he said that with no symptoms and the heart rate is ok that I do nothing and wait it out. Your opinion, please?
Avatar f tn the dr found several severe atrial tachycardias & my heart rate going to 270 bpm. he has put me on Digoxin so we'll c if that helps..is any1else taking Digoxin?
290624 tn?1202328875 My resting rate was between 75 and 80 before the procedure. I just got back from my EP's office and he is puzzled by the fast rate. I have tried everything from meditation to putting ice packs on my body to bring it down and nothing works. He told me I could take my digoxin or a beta blocker if I need some relief, but so far I haven't taken anything. It's funny because the first time I went to see my doc after the procedure, my pulse was in sinus rhythm at 100bpm.
Avatar m tn I had high blood pressure years ago, and after taking one or two medications with little success, I was given 25mg of Atenolol, which worked extremely well. Since then, the dose has been increased to 50mg, and that has done the trick--kept my blood pressure under 140/90. Recently though, I've been having an issue controlling my blood pressure. I felt really crappy a few months ago, and when I came home from a hike, my blood pressure was around 160/100.
Avatar n tn I am taking 25 mg of metaprolol split in half. Half in the morning and half at night. I also take 0.25 of digoxin and 5 mg of lisinopril. I have only taken the metaprolol and digoxin for less than a week so I guess it will stabilize soon. So far it has not really helped the arrythmias. If it does not help in several weeks maybe my cardio will change them. Thanks again for your help.
Avatar f tn I was standing while ago and i got real dizzy all of a sudden, i grabbed my oximeter of my bed and took my pulse with it. ( my pulse is very hard to find to do it manually) My pulse was 160. That is the highest ive calculated yet. My dr put me on artane in place of cogentin. I have been diagnosed with hypertension. I have numbness in my hands, legs, feet, lips, and tongue. The numbness has carried on from may 2014. I have chronic pain in my joints and muscles.
2021358 tn?1328748117 Vagal nerve is as you probably know, part of the autonomic nervous system. An electrophysiclogical (EP) cardiologist would be the specialist to see. (I don't know why the neurologists don't treat it, but they don't) I have POTS and am sure I also have vagal nerve damage, was seen at Mayo clinic in FL. Beacuse I also have heart problems, the neurologist and cardiologist got together and prescribed DIGOXIN.
Avatar f tn Toprol and digoxin are not anti-arrythmics, altho they can both lower your heart rate and blood pressure, considered "rate control." I took beta blockers for 7 years and controlled my afib. Then when my afib got worse, I went on Norpace, which controlled it pretty well for about 3 years. Last summer I had chest surgery, which changed the whole picture and I've been in and out of the hospital with afib ever since.
471161 tn?1317190950 I was in th hospital for four days in December with a high heart rate and low sodium and low potassium and then back in in January with high heart rate and high sed rate. If I got out of bed to brush my teeth the niurse would run in to see if I was ok because my rate would go up to 160 that easily.
Avatar f tn After a routine ECG I was referred to a cardiologist and after 24 hour holter was diagnosed with extremely high PACs of 36% or 36,000 in a 24 hour period. Usually PACs are not an issue but I have way too many. (maybe I make those of you with only 5000 feel better!) I went on toprol 25mg to start which brings them to 32,000. So still extremely high. I just moved to 50mg maybe that will help.
290624 tn?1202328875 I'm scheduled for an ablation next Tuesday. I don't think my pulse was through the roof because I've had that before and this felt different. It was like I could feel some beats in my neck, but not all. I would just feel some beats in my chest. I'm on digoxin and disopyramide. But I'm off those as of tomorrow in preparation for my procedure. I'm terrified! Maybe it was just a really slow a-fib? Thanks for replying...
Avatar f tn The Heart Rhythm Society did a few randomized trials to assess the efficacy of calcium channel blockers, beta-blockers and digoxin in SVT. A comparison of verapamil, propranolol and digoxin showed equivalent efficacy in a small group of patients. However, in general calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers are preferred to digoxin. Digoxin has been around for a long time! I used Digoxin over 50 years ago for my PSVT, and my recollection was that it did little to prevent episodes.
Avatar n tn s contractions are weaker than normal, and digoxin helps provide a stronger beating heart. If one has increased functionality of the heart, the drug may be dropped, also, there can be a tolerance that develops with digoxin that may require discontinuation for a period of time.
Avatar n tn is it ok to take furosemide 20mg with diltiaz er120mg,digoxin 0.25mg and metoprolol tart 50mg and a bayer aspirin 325mg ?
