Common Questions and Answers about Digoxin and ecg

Avatar n tn It is the responsibility of the clinician providing care for the patient to ascertain the importance of the ECG findings. It is not an uncommon EKG tracing, often meaningless and requires supporting evidence for any dx. There are heart drugs e.g.
Avatar f tn one ecg it says it was abnormal here what it says sinus rhythm.
Avatar m tn There appears to be some heart cells that may have been damaged by a prior heart attack. Left atrium is the upper chamber above the left ventricle...it is enlarged. Ischemia indicates a lack of adequate blood flow usually due to occluded vessels. Do you have symptoms of chest pains or shortness of breat. etc? T-wave abnormalities by their own, without the detection of chest pain or similar such symptoms, are neither conclusively proven of any harm, nor a sign of problem in future.
Avatar m tn they sent me for lab work and told me everything came back negative. They did an ECG while I was there also and said that was fine. I later found out through a family member that it would be wise to get a second opinion (not a reputable doctor!) I ordered my records from this clinic and found that one of my labs for lyme disease was positive and my ecg results say ABNORMAL on them too!
Avatar f tn My husband and I would like to start trying for a baby but i'm on Betablockers for a tachycardia that no-one can find a reason for! i'm only on 1.25mg of bisoprolol, and would like to know what risks there are. I'm currently on a waiting list to see cardiology and find out what their opinion is but would like a bit of advice.
Avatar n tn My father recenlty fell, fractured his hip and I have been getting contradicting information about digoxin, since he has low blood pressure and digoxin may not be safe for him.. Thank you This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/239460'>Dijoxin Level</a>.
Avatar n tn I took Digoxin for a number of years in reponse to an atrial fibrillation event. My new physician did not feel I needed to be on it any longer. What are the side effects of discontinuing this medication? I have been off it for several months and some odd changes in my body.
Avatar n tn Hello and welcome to the forum. We're glad you found us, but sorry for the circumstances that bring you here. The questions on this forum are not answered by doctors. Rather, they are asked and answered by patients, caregivers and friends. Do you know the classification of Heart Failure? Digoxin is a commonly prescribed medication for patients with heart failure, afib/flutter or fast heart rhythms.
4356842 tn?1353312209 So I had a pretty crappy cold about a week and a half ago, now being on digoxin I can't take cold meds so I stick it out. Well the cold is now over and my teeth are hurting. I see no signs of abscess' and my mom thinks it might be a sinus infection. No from what I've read online they usually give amoxcillin to treat it. My question is has anyone else on digoxin taken amoxcillin? Is it safe. Being on dig I know there's a lot of stuff we can and can not take.
Avatar f tn The Heart Rhythm Society did a few randomized trials to assess the efficacy of calcium channel blockers, beta-blockers and digoxin in SVT. A comparison of verapamil, propranolol and digoxin showed equivalent efficacy in a small group of patients. However, in general calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers are preferred to digoxin. Digoxin has been around for a long time! I used Digoxin over 50 years ago for my PSVT, and my recollection was that it did little to prevent episodes.
Avatar f tn I have some Afib and some PAC's, my doc said Digoxin and Toprol do the same thing, I chose the Digoxin. Does anyone take the Digoxin for these conditions and it works? Which do you think is better?
Avatar n tn s contractions are weaker than normal, and digoxin helps provide a stronger beating heart. If one has increased functionality of the heart, the drug may be dropped, also, there can be a tolerance that develops with digoxin that may require discontinuation for a period of time.
Avatar f tn s my completely unprofessional opinion on what I know about digoxin, and I took it for a number of years as a kid for SVT. It's an old drug that's been used literally for centuries. I took it back in 1957. It's inherently toxic and if that fact was not enough to curtail its use, there's evidence that suggests the drug, even at dosages normally considered safe, can cause visual problems, serious skin rashes, and may significantly aggravate asthma.
Avatar f tn I know if i was on digoxin i would look at the packaging the pharmacy gave me and go directly to the horses mouth so to speak and go onto the manufactuerers site and see what they have to say about long term effects, etc. They should tell you what the clinical studies showed, side effects and all of the pertinent information....good luck to you....
Avatar m tn Then I found on the internet how toxic Digoxin could be with the other medicines I was taking, and that no one should be kept on it for very long. Since the second cardiologist removed Digoxin from my prescriptions, and I was healing and getting better, I think I must have been under a toxic level of Digoxin causing blood in my urine and poisoning affects of awake,eyesight,cuts,etc..
Avatar m tn these include ectopic atrial tachycardia and sinus node re-entry tachycardia. If your child has one of these and they go untreated, the stress on the heart will continue. It is great to hear that your child is asymptomatic and gaining weight, but the heart enlargement is worrisome. If you have access to a pediatric electrophysiologist, I would suggest getting a second opinion.
Avatar m tn Thank you so much for your reply. Its much appreciated. As mentioned in my original post, i had an Echo last week. I'm awaiting the results but my main concern is the fact that my specialist implied that i wont be seeing him for 6 months and that the Echo will decide whether i will need ambulatory oxygen or not. He suggested that if ambulatory oxygen is required, the respiratory nurses will arrange everything and attend the house to provide all my needs.
Avatar f tn High ventricular rate leads to insufficient diastolic filling time. Digoxin slows down the conduction in the AV node and increases its refractory period, and it can reduce the ventricular rate. The arrhythmia itself is not affected, but the pumping function of the heart improves by improved filling. The use of digoxin in heart problems during sinus rhythm was once standard.
Avatar n tn I am wondering if you are uneasy about taking digoxin. If so, I would ask you cardio if you can get by with just the TOPROL XL. Digoxin, xanax, toprol xl, and lisinoprol seems like a lot of stuff to be taking. I am a runner and only take TOPROL XL 12.5mg. This knocks out my extra beats and really slows my heart down. A little seems to go a long way for me.
Avatar n tn I am taking 25 mg of metaprolol split in half. Half in the morning and half at night. I also take 0.25 of digoxin and 5 mg of lisinopril. I have only taken the metaprolol and digoxin for less than a week so I guess it will stabilize soon. So far it has not really helped the arrythmias. If it does not help in several weeks maybe my cardio will change them. Thanks again for your help.
Avatar m tn I was given oxygen tube through my nose - the oxygen was very cold and the flow rate irritated my nostrils and I said I was feeling unwell and lightheaded. I was then told that my heart rate fell to virtually zero but just three presses on my chest by the nurse brouht the rythym back. The troponin level in blood tests after ~12-13 hours was recorded as 0.1. However other blood tests revealed no raised levels of cardiac enzymes.
4356842 tn?1353312209 I am limited so much to what I can and cant do. I think its mainly due to the digoxin. So I was wondering if anyone out there has been on the digoxin and switched to something different. While on the digoxin did you have severe heat intolerance? I haven't been able to tan in 3 years or go to the beach. Pretty much all summer activities during the day I can not do. I get so dizzy and disoriented in the heat that it actually causes me to have attacks.
Avatar f tn I'm 76 and have had 2 cardio versions. My cardio just took me off digoxin and started me on propafenone which is really making me sick. Do you ever adjust to it? I'm taking 225 mg twice a day.
