Avatar f tn I have some Afib and some PAC's, my doc said Digoxin and Toprol do the same thing, I chose the Digoxin. Does anyone take the Digoxin for these conditions and it works? Which do you think is better?
Avatar n tn Amiodarone is a very strong arrythma medication and is usually used on folks who have had afib for a very long time and other meds dont work... Amiodarone has some pretty serious side effects.... and its my personal opinion, but I wouldnt want to be on it unless it was absolutely necessary. I had afib for 12-13 years and finally had if fixed a couple of years ago with an ablation...I dont know if the BP symptoms your having would have anything to do with the Amiodarone.
Avatar n tn is it ok to take furosemide 20mg with diltiaz er120mg,digoxin 0.25mg and metoprolol tart 50mg and a bayer aspirin 325mg ?
Avatar m tn How do you tell if Afib converted on its own or if the medication did the conversion or if the medication was causing the Afib? I have been to the Primary doctor and Emergency room both said I was not in afib currently. Another words, when do you know when to stop taking the medications? In Nov 2013, I have Aortic heart valve replacement and a maze procedure. My old cardiologist wanted to do a cardioversion but I didn't want it, so I had to change Cardiologist.
Avatar f tn A new flutter sensation appeared 4 months ago - wore monitor and dr says its PAC - not to worry. They drive me nuts all day long, off and on and put me on higher dose of 200 mgs. Toprol/ day but still has not done away with them. I have noticed that I can predict that after I eat the PAC's will start - breakfast, lunch and dinner. Of course I do have some in between but these are the times they really kick in. Does anyone else have this problem?
Avatar f tn I experienced AFib lately and when to hospital. Doctor put me on Digoxin, just wondering if anyone is on this drug and if it is working. This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/262663'>Synthroid and frequent heart flutters</a>.
Avatar m tn It sounds like your AFib symptoms are severe and you should consult a electrical specialist, and EP as already noted. That could lead to an additional attempt to convert you with medications and/or electrocardioversion. Electrocardioversion no longer work for me, they did in the past, I have 15 years history of AFib. I am in permanent AFib, so I don't have ups/downs, it is constant. On the good side, I don't even notice it unless I want to do more than walk on the level.
Avatar f tn After spending 8 days in the hospital getting my heart back into sinus rhythm (3 cardioversions + Tikosyn) I am back to Afib (off the Tikosyn) and have a 'normal' heart rate of 100 now. I presently take Lisinopril, Digoxin, Warfarin, and Carvedilol. Is 'my present condition' truly something that should not cause concern to me. Isn't being in constant AFib causing my chances of a stroke to rise considerably???
Avatar m tn After a (small) stroke conjectured to have been caused by atrial febrillation (accompanied by a heart rate of 160 (3x her normal rate)), my wife had a pacemaker implanted and is now on coumidin, digoxin, and metoprolol. In a brief phone conversation with her doctor, she asked how long she'd be on the coumidin. He responded, "forever.
Avatar f tn I am not allowed to increase the dose. Calcium channel blockers and many betablockers are not suitable for me. Someone suggested Digoxin to me, but hyperparathyroidism prevents its use. I don't know how to treat my abnormal rhythm.
Avatar n tn The problem with it is that it has a concerning side-effect profile. It is much worse than digoxin from that stand-point. Patients frequently develop thyroid and liver problems, they also have to have their eyes and lungs checked routinely to rule out further complications. We typically only use it as a last resort drug, or for a short period of time. Since the side-effects are usually related to the length of exposure, we tend not to use this medication in young patients.
Avatar f tn Flecainide, Digoxin, Atenolol, verapamil can go into the bin. Also, the holter monitor report mentioned "ventricular runs" is not meant to v-tach. It is ventricular pacing. When my pacemaker is pacing my ventricle, I feel like an express train is running in my chest, sweat and exhausted. Yes, with the pacemaker, you still can feel the irregular pulses. It depends the programming what the doc set to. If he set to permanent pace at ventricle then you might be unable to feel one.
Avatar n tn If anyone out there has gone through pregnancy and delivery with pre-existing AFib and or SVT, I would love to hear what you have learned or what you know about it. I feel helpless like I'm not armed with enough information to handle my pregnancy safely. Thanks very much! I appreciate any input!
Avatar f tn Scheduled another cardio-vert for this Wed Mar 4, and will start on Tikosyn and be monitored in hospital for 2-3 days. Also said I would need to be on Digoxin and would fax that Rx in.... he "forgot".....I called the service Sat.& Dr. in surgery his PA said he would call back in 2 hours.... but I didn't hear from him. Today I learned he called it in, but didn't notify me, the pharmacy did. The P.A. said A-Fib was a "nuisance" not dangerous.....
Avatar m tn I recently went to a new doctor to have my digoxin levels checked and he noticed that my afib had returned. He was concerned because digoxin would not have been his choice of treatment and he said I should have also been taking aspirin or a blood thinner. That same day I had to back to the office for an echocardiogram and treadmill stress test. The echo turned out fine but eight minutes into the stress test my heart rate peaked at 275 bpm.
Avatar m tn After the op. she was put on amiodarone, digoxin and furosemide. While the MVR appeared successful the maze did not kick in, experiencing irregular heartbeats cica 90 p.m. She then had cardioversion a few days ago; her heart rhythm appears to have regularised but her pulse rate has dropped to 42-46 p.m. and she has lost a lot ef energy. She has been taken off all medication except warfarin (5 mg pd) Where do we go from here?
Avatar f tn ive recently had a duel chamber pacemaker installed, which im gr8full4 because no dr untill now has been willing to get it4me (i have sick sinus syndrome, mvp, 3 valves regurgitating, chf & right circumflex artery missing). however since the pacemaker ive been getting a-fib & flutters with my hr jumping to120 bpm & my other symptoms (fainting, etc) getting worse.
1231791 tn?1289756226 re right on the money, dizziness short of breath headaches numbness in arms and lower legs confusion and an inability to string a lucid sentence together. Two days off meds and the bp and pulse are still comparatively low for my norm, but at least my friends don't think I'm drunk when I speak. For now I'll live with the angina and pvc's & deal with the afib as it comes. Again thank you for your reply. Happy 4th to you and your family !
Avatar f tn My cardiologist just keeps changing med with no relief. Currently taking Lisinopril, Digoxin and Multaq. He has referred me for another ablation at Baylor Hospital/Dallas. I can immediately feel when my heart goes "out of rhythm" or "crazy". Almost always I am asleep when this happens. I also have severe hot flashes every 45 minutes (I have for 14 years with no relief from any medication so now I take nothing.
Avatar f tn I take Metoprolol to lower my HR which is driven by AFib. It helps, and in the beginning gave me a case of too low BP, but that has mostly gone away... my BP is now near normal, again. I am not sure if I feel any more energetic, but I do not have dizzy spells.
Avatar f tn Toprol and digoxin are not anti-arrythmics, altho they can both lower your heart rate and blood pressure, considered "rate control." I took beta blockers for 7 years and controlled my afib. Then when my afib got worse, I went on Norpace, which controlled it pretty well for about 3 years. Last summer I had chest surgery, which changed the whole picture and I've been in and out of the hospital with afib ever since.
Avatar m tn I've had a-fib for about 10-12 yrs. Diet pills and ephedrine brought it on. I've taken digoxin, flecanaide, and now I'm back on rhythmol 3 times a day and a small topral XL and quit my nightly ambien. Because my a-fib had increased to weekly episodes of 1-3 days, Dr told me I could go on Coumadin or sit back and wait for a stroke. I opted for the Coumadin and I haven't had a-fib since. He also is very big on ablation. Anyway, I would really like to get off some of the meds.
1302576 tn?1273270866 Not sure if my story helps, but it may be that you could reduce the frequency and intensity of AFib and SVT by taking a low dose of beta blocker and/or calcium channel blocker. The CCB works the best for me.
Avatar n tn I emailed my cardio and he said that with no symptoms and the heart rate is ok that I do nothing and wait it out. Your opinion, please?
Avatar f tn High ventricular rate leads to insufficient diastolic filling time. Digoxin slows down the conduction in the AV node and increases its refractory period, and it can reduce the ventricular rate. The arrhythmia itself is not affected, but the pumping function of the heart improves by improved filling. The use of digoxin in heart problems during sinus rhythm was once standard.
