Diflucan resistant yeast

Common Questions and Answers about Diflucan resistant yeast

diflucan

Avatar n tn Some women can be more prone to resistant yeast infections than others. It sounds like this has not been going on for very long so I would not get too worried just yet. If you truly had just a "bad cold" you should not have been given antibiotics. I hear this happening all the time and over prescribing of antibiotics is why we have so many antibiotic resistant bacteria (superbugs) in the U.S. (as well as women with yeast infections!).
Avatar m tn s healthy bacteria. All the diflucan does is kill the bad bacteria (which causes the yeast infections)...but it kills the body's healthy bacteria along with it. You need to rebuild that in your system. It totally works!!
Avatar f tn We are not doctors are here but I can give you some advice. You may have a strain of yeast that is resistant to the antifungal creams. It may not even be yeast. Some things mimic yeast. You should have a swab taken to determine the type and see if it is one that is highly resistant. In the meantime try one that doesn't have fluconazole or diflucan as the yeast (Candida albicans) that most causes a vaginal infection is often resistant to this antifungal.
Avatar n tn I have had a yeast infection for about 3 months now. I have tried Gynazole-1 & when that didn't work I was given 2 Diflucan pills taken 3 days apart. That didn't work so I went back to the Dr. who looked under the microscope & said it looked like definately yeast. I have had cultures & STD testing done, all fine. So I was given a 7 day treatment of Terazol & 2 more Diflucan pills (take 5 days apart) to take at the same time as using the Terazol.
Avatar m tn I am prone to getting yeast infections and I get them from taking oral antibiotics....every time I need to take time I ask for Diflucan to kill the yeast....talk to ur dr regarding this med to help u. U may want to talk to a pharmacist to be sure nothing u r taking could be adding to ur thrush. U may also want to try a mouth wash rise every night to help with this.
Avatar m tn Those antibiotics caused me another yeast infection. I have tried more diflucan, monistat 7 (miconazole) and vagistat 1 (tioconazole) with no results. I tested for HIV and results were negative. Doctors are growing impatient with me. I just changed doctors and have an appt soon. I don't know what to do anymore. I am embarrased to be intimate because of the yeast, and the stubborness of it lingers in my mind. Could the yeast cause me to become infertile? What should I do?
Avatar m tn You could have a yeast infection that is resistant to Diflucan cream over the counter which is (Fluconazole). Most yeast are becoming resistant to the yeast treatments that end in "azole" so you could try getting Terbinafine instead and putting that on. If it works on you then your wife may need a different treatment because she may seem to be getting the yeast and not killing it 100%.
Avatar f tn wondered if u also get yeast infections...antibiotics can cause a flare up of a yeast infection...so do ask for DIFLUCAN to help prevent that issue altogether. Speaking with a Pharmacist may be the best help in knowing what meds would be best for u with the H.Pylori...it can be resistant to antibiotics...and can require a second round. Then, the antibiotics can kill off all teh good bacteria u need, so ask ur dr about taking a probiotic afterward.
19413498 tn?1477669741 I believe I was given a yeast infection from a woman after sex, this was 7 months ago and I have a constant red rash on my penis that gets really red when erect (typical penile Yeast symptoms). I have tried Diflucan, Lamasil (terbainafine) and ketaconazle cream all which did nothing. It has effected me psychologically an incredible amount.
Avatar f tn Please help me find relief! I have recurrent yeast infections monthly. I have gotten one a month since I gave birth to my last child in November. I have been to my gynecologist multiple times for this issue and I get no where. I call every month and get a diflucan pills & it usually always clears it up quickly, however, this month has been AWFUL! I am currently dealing with another yeast infection which is much worse this time.
Avatar f tn Okay I've had yellow discahrge and burning since last July. I've been tested for STI's all were negative. Well last Friday my girlfriend took me to the hospital because of the burning and the pain the hospital tested for trich yeast gonherra and chlymidia. They said it was all negative and sent me home. Well I went to my gyno Tuesday and she checked me for yeast and said I had a horrible yeast infection that I had to have for months.
Avatar f tn I always get yeast infections after oral sex with my boyfriend. It hasnt always been like this but after the first time i got one they have always came back after oral. We got my boyfriend a diflucan to take but it didnt seem to help. what can i do to stop these other than stopping oral sex completely.
Avatar f tn Urgent care said I had strep and he prescribed me a azithromycin and Diflucan for yeast (no swab). Well following Wed I was in tears when urinating from the urine touching my skin and knew I also had a uti. Went to hospital and doc said I had an std but had to wait 2 days. She gave me an iv of rocephin and prescribed me doxycycline. I took doxy as prescribed and informed partner. He got tested same day and I called two days later for results.
Avatar f tn She put me on Diflucan, and I took both doses and STILL had the YI. I heard your body can be resistant to Diflucan, so I got OTC Monistat and...of course I still have the itching and some discharge. It's not as intense, but it's still annoying. I've been tested for diabetes, and my gyno asked me if I've been tested for HIV, which concerned me. I was tested for everything in the beginning of the year, and I'm pretty sure I wasn't exposed to HIV.

Avatar f tn But, if it is Candida albicans, the most common yeast, it is often resistant to Diflucan (Fluconazole). If not the other yeast are very resistant to several anti-fungals. So it might be worth it to get it identified. Terbinifine (Lamisil) seems to work better than Diflucan if you can get it for your purpose. You may need a prescription for it. So I don't know if you want to go through having to go to the office to get the culture done and it may be C. albicans anyway.
Avatar n tn Thank you, Girl522, for your input. I don't have BV, so I'm not dealing with that. Also, Glabrata is not a candida albican and is resistant to Diflucan, so I can't take that as is suggested in your post. I do have to say; however, that changing my diet and taking acidolphus and lactobacillus has dramatically improved my yeast infection as yeast does live in the intestinal tract and if you don't feed it, it won't multiply.
2118271 tn?1337463104 I have tried Nystatin, and I am on the 4th day of a 2 week Diflucan regimen that my gastroenterologist prescribed me. She diagnosed me without even looking at so.... I have also used a natural antifungal before all this because I was suspicious I had a systemic candida condition (no doctor has been willing to test me for it, and the antifungals have gotten rid of my other symptoms. Is this thrush, or something else? What else can I take for resistant thrush if that is what it is?
Avatar n tn About 90% of yeast infections are caused by Candida albicans, which is senstive to the imidazole drug class, which includes both Diflucan and Monistat. Most of the rest are caused C. glabrata, which is resistant to the imidazoles and requires alternative treatments, such as nystatin (usually sold generically) or caspofungin (Cancidas). You should discuss this possibility with your doctor. In the meantime, I see little reason for concern about STDs.
Avatar n tn Many yeast infections are now resistant to the over the counter treatments, and maybe you need to get a prescription treatment, and it wouldn't hurt for your husband to, as well. You could be passing it back and forth. If your doctor is just telling you to use OTC stuff, you might find another doctor.
Avatar m tn i take zolaft 100 mg daily. i still have testi pain and burning. i am now bieng treated with diflucan for 7 days for a yeast infection. should i be worried. do u think my ngu was wiped out. i was bieng treated for resistant ngu.
Avatar f tn It took me 9 months to clear it up and now I have BV. A lot of women are now developing resistant strains of yeast. Sugar is what feeds yeast. I finally got rid of it by using plain yogurt (no sugar) with probiotics and taking out as much sugar as possible. It took about a month of doing that to get rid of it. I would not continue to insert your fingers either. Even if you wash your hands, you can still make or cause the yeast to return.
Avatar f tn I have had 6 rounds of diflucan to no avail. My urology dr is at a loss. Should I be seeing an infectious disease dr at this point? When I take diflucan I feel better quickly. Once I stop within a few days I feel terrible again. They prescribe diflucan for 14 days. Had it 6 x’s. Always comes back. No bacteria grows in urine. I am also antibiotic resistant from antibiotics for 49+ years. I Am not diabetic but do have polycystic ovarian syndrome.
Avatar m tn just wanted to inform you that my wife went to the doctor and it was confirmed that it was yeast. They gave her two diflucan pills 150mg each. Do you think i should try taking diflucan just in case we are passing it back and fourth between each other.
Avatar f tn She looked under the microscope and said she saw ALOT of yeast so i treated with monistat and didnt work i then did diflucan didnt work went to my pcp and she looked at it and said she saw yeast she prescribed me tarezol i did that didnt work. I went back she tested me for goneraha and clamydia and negative but still saw yeast and a few c cells. I did metrogel diflucan didnt work then terazol.
Avatar n tn What I fear is that because his ex fought it for so many years he may have passed me a resistant strain. I had to take 9 days of diflucan to knock it out and have since switched to monostat when it comes back. Could his particular ph be too alkaline and causing a greater change in my vaginal ph? We are going to try condoms for a while until we both think things are cleared. This is so frustrating since we are talking about marriage and a vasectomy reversal to have children.
Avatar f tn I have a yeast infection all of the time and im also 19 ive been to so many doctors and they all say its yeast ive tried medicine like diflucan I take that every week once a week for 6 months its horrible and I feel like its not doing much :/ I think I have a resistant strand of yeast ! Ive also read online on a comment about some violet dye or pill you can take that lays in your cervix and kills the yeast on contact ask your doctor about it cause I am going to!
Avatar m tn so talk to ur dr and be advised many can get a yeast infection form the antibiotics and DIFLUCAN is helpful in preventing that from happening. Plus, u may want to discuss using a probiotic as the antibiotics kill off the good bacteria needed for digestion.
Avatar f tn He told me to buy 2 boxes of 7 day treatment beacuse I might have a resistant string of a yeast inection. As of now I finished my first box of the treatment and I dont feel any different.Should I go see another doctor or wait until I finish the other box of treatment?Could it be an underlying problem?
