novolog

Avatar f tn In the past I was put on Novolin NPH (28 units morn and 28 at bedtime) and I was taking 7 units of reg with each meal. Well, I recently changed drs and the new dr put me on Novolog pen 70/30-I am at 18 units ever 12 hours and it is not lowering blood sugar readings at all. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is the Novolog pen comparable with the NPH and Reg regamen? I was doing well with the Novolin and I am confused as to why I was swithched.
Avatar m tn I switched from lantus to novolog and the doses are different, I then switched to the 70/30 novolin (relion brand from wal mart) as it was much cheaper and the dose once again changed, although I am type 2 and monitor my levels closely, all insulin brands work differently so be careful and consult Dr. I did finally settle on the 70/30 mix, you can get the pens but it is much cheaper to just inject yourself, I get the needles that are the same size as the pens.....
Avatar m tn I am a type one and have been on novalog for 5 years. For the last 6 months sometime my novolog works and sometimes it don't. For example tonight four hours after meal I was at 280 so I tryed to correct with 5 units of novolog. Normally this should have brought my numbers down but, tonight and here laity 3 hours later i was still at 259...It's like i never tryed to correct.
Avatar n tn I use a vial. Novolin says unopened vials shall be kept at temperatures below 30°C (86°F) for up to 28 days in the refrigerator, but should not be exposed to excessive heat or sunlight. Open vials may be refrigerated too. My pharmacist states that if I do not wish to refrigerate it my room temp of 50-70° is just fine for storage.
Avatar n tn After six month of roller coaster, my doctor put me on Novolog. When I started using Novolog, with in two hours of eating my blood sugar gets back to normal range. I can sense better if my blood sugar level starts to drop below 60.
Avatar n tn I would keep a careful record, takng glucose readings before and after meals (a couple of hours after the meal) and write down your readings. In a week or so, you will have data that might proved whether this will work for you or not. If it causes extreme highs or lows ( the same brittle condition you experienced with shots) then you would have some paperwork to plead your case to your insurance agency in an appeal.
Avatar m tn My Dr first told me to use 1 unit of fast acting insulin for 25 g of carbs, and adjust from there. Typically I will use 1 unit of insulin for 10 g of carbs in the early mornings, 1 unit of insulin for 20 g of carbs later in the day. Hope this helps you find some direction. Please come and ask more questions.
1367276 tn?1278801812 My goal was to get away from all or most of my meds (especially the shots) and before finding out I was pregnant I dropped from 20 units regular insulin before meals, sliding scale regular insulin throughout the day, 50 units Novolin N, 500 mg metaformin 2 x daily, and glimepride to just sliding scale insulin and 500 mg of metaformin 2 x daily. Of course now I am just on insulin and having a difficult time as I am more resistant it seems.
209227 tn?1242346745 Is there a difference between Humalog and Novolog insulins? I was told there are exactly the same. But is this true?
Avatar n tn I also am on a strict diet I eat 3 meals and 3 snacks everyday. Hopefully in the next few months I will be approved for the pump and I will not have to be so strict and my HGA1C will be @ 6 or lower, I am very excited about this. Good Luck!

704262 tn?1247674638 Yes, you can take Novolog and Lantus in separate injections, but they may not be mixed in the same injection or at the same injection site. Generally Novolog is only prescribed if you follow a strict physician-approved routine. If you have a meter and strictly monitor results of various combinations under vary circumstances use of both medications should cause no problems. Be careful using the Novolog because you can easily drop your blood sugar to very low levels.
Avatar n tn For the past year, I have been taking Novolog Insulin in combination with Lantus. I have noticed the beginning stages of cellulite around the areas where I give the Novolog injection. I am a 27 year old, juvenile onset diabetic. I am thin for my height and have never had a problem with cellulite until the change in medication. Can this be linked to either of the new insulins that I am taking?
Avatar n tn It is feasible that the Novolog stays in your system for a while and then you get hit with that and the Lantis at the same time. What you eat for breakfast may also impact the absorption rate and insulin impact. You really are doing the right things, You sort of have to be a detective with your own body, in consultation with your doctor, in order to figure out what works for you. It can be frustrating, but keep asking the questions and talking with your doctor.
Avatar n tn When I take my insulin at night I get very bad legs and feet cramps for most of the night. Can you tell me why?
Avatar f tn And how long do I wait after injecting to eat? I know that info is in the patient information that comes with the vial but my eyesight is so bad I can't read it, even with a magnifying glass.
12861759 tn?1432917955 I am currently using Lantus and Novolog. Drs. advice is to start with 40 units of Lantus and up it 2 units every third day until I get a fasting BG of less then 130. Is it more important to get to my Lantus goal on a consistant basis before I try to adjust my Novolog?
Avatar f tn Hi, I had a 14 year old diabetic dog who just passed away from neurological complications associated with cauda equina syndrome. I had a tough time initially getting him adjusted with the vet and decided to take matters into my own hands, and got him under AWESOME glucose control. A couple of general comments related to diabetes and insulin: 1. Your dog can't be adjusted in a day. It takes 3-4 days of giving the same amount of insulin twice/day for the body to adjust. 2.
Avatar n tn In the last few weeks it has begun itching almost as soon as I put in a new canula. All the novolog materials say this is rare and uncommon but should go away as your body gets use to the insulin. I've used it for a long time and now that it is developing it isn't going away! Is this unheard of, and do I need to change insulin types? I'm really comfortable with Novolog and worried about changing to something I don't know. My endo is very ambivalent about it.
Avatar n tn Hi, I switched from Humalog to Novolog in my pump a coupla years ago and am *delighted* with the results. Novolog seems to be more predictable and is more stable for the 3-4 days it's in my pump. Can you work with your doctor to try a different pen? The novolog pen holds 300 units, right? I tried a Novolog Jr pen a while back (thinking I might like it instead of syringes for my low-tech backup) which holds fewer units and allows 1/2 unit increments.
1273125 tn?1365077526 I contacted her and she was going to call in the Novolog. My numbers have remained high and I am begining to worry about long term effects. The physician decided that this was not the best course of treatment and stopped the script. I waited for an hour at the pharmacy. I called the next morning and we kind of had issues. She said that I want to play physician and that the numbers of her diabetic patients are some of the best in the city. Maybe I need a new doctor she says.
Avatar f tn Novolog is before meals And Lantus is before bed or late in the evening.
Avatar f tn Hello I am new to novolin My Dr has me on 15 units twice a day after being on lantus for 1 year and it just did not work at all for me under 29 units was not enough and over 20 units bottomed my sugar out My question is and this also did this when i was on lantus is it normal after injecting yourself with insulin that my blood sugar spikes up I am talking it can be 150 and after the injection it will jump up to 300 with in 3 hours is this normal or is it just me I know I am not making sense
Avatar m tn Normally your care provider would have provided you with instructions. Didn't instructional paperwork accompany the pen? Contact your care provider for the proper amount [units] designated for you. Then Google search "how to use novolog flex pen" [w/o the " " [quotes]], scroll down and click the link to [PDF] NovoLog Flex Pen. You'll need a .pdf reader to read it. If you don't have one, go to Adobe and download and install the free pdf file reader.
Avatar n tn "So I was wondering if that sliding scale is a standard one for all patients or different for each patient." It is best to consult with your father's doctor to identify the exact amount he/she recommends. A sliding scale can be used on most patients when only using ONE insulin type, not two as in your father's case. The 30 in Novolog 70/30 is short/fast acting [70 intermediate/all day] and Novolog Aspart is entirely short/fast acting. Too much can induce hypoglycemia.
Avatar m tn My niece takes NovoLog / Novo Rapid by pump and coming to visit me in Kenya but her plane was cancelled and her insulin supply has reached room temperature. I live in Kenya and cannot find any supply of NovoLog there is only Humulin R. I need help to know if this is accceptable please!!!
