336017 tn?1263579257 The difference in aortic root sizes is probably related to the different measuring tools used, echo versus CT. When there is a difference between the two, CT is often preferred as its measurements are orthogonal to axis of the vessel being measured. There likely was some distortion of the aortic sinuses with surgery, and this may the cause of the remainder of the difference. More importantly is do you have Marfan's syndrome? Has anyone checked for the presence of the phenotype?
Avatar n tn (By the way, although losartan is currently being researched in Johns Hopkins clinical trials, other ARBs such as telmisartan are probably most effective given their increased lipid solubility and thus increased tissue penetration.) I strongly encourage you to visit www.marfanlife.net and find the very lengthy thread titled "Losartan" or something to that effect. Probably some of the most important reading of your life.
Avatar f tn It is thought that losartan is not as good a choice as other ARBs like valsartan and telmisartan because losartan penetrates tissue less than those drugs and because losartan is a surmountable antagonist that could, theoretically, lose effectiveness over time. This isn't a proven fact to my knowledge and Dr. Dietz for various reasons may or may not agree.
Avatar f tn Hallo there -anyone and everyone. Is there any reasons to prefer or take losartan above olmesartan or the olmesartan above losartan. Person taking these is african, 57 years, female and oh, my mother.
Avatar m tn My serum creatinine level comes between 0.8 to 1.0 and urea under 20. Am i suffering from kidney disease? Am I taking proper drugs? Is there any drug to decrease albumin in urine? May I have to go for kidney biopsy?
Avatar n tn Personally, I take valsartan, but my friends have experienced similar success (or better) with candesartan, telmisartan, losartan (although this drug is surmountable and thus theoretically not the best one to take), irbesartan, and, for ACE inhibitors, perindopril.
Avatar m tn I'm a 42 male with BAV. My first echo in 2008 noted a 3.6 aortic root, 2009 3.8. An October 19, 20011 came in at 4.4. A MRI was ordered two days later and the root was 4.1x3.7. I also had a wisdom tooth pulled on 10/14/11 and I began to think maybe it was just inflammation due to the pulled tooth. My Doc immediately dismissed that theory. Also the MRI rated my regurgitation as mild and not the mild/moderate I had been told previously.
Avatar n tn THIS is the problem with most cardiologists today. They routinely prescribe beta blockers for patients with aortic root dilatation, even though the most recent studies have shown that they DO NOT HELP YOU. Beta blockers are prescribed because they make sense on paper, but in practice, they are absolutely useless. These doctors are also grossly behind the times. I don't know whether they are ignorant of the latest, big-news breakthroughs or just unwilling to try them.
Avatar m tn I went back to Walgreens and asked the pharmacist if there was any chance that the Apotex was inferior/impotent to the Cozaar for some reason. She assured me that could not be the case and that there could be no difference. Losartan is Losartan is Losartan. As an experiment(with GP consensus), I doubled my dose of Apotex Losartan from 50 to 100 mg a day for one week. No change in BP. I am baffled. GP does not have a clue either. I want to try going back to Cozaar. Sound reasonable?
Avatar f tn I have COPD and something was aggravating my breathing problems. I went to the doctor yesterday and he took me off the Metoprolol and put me on 100 mg of Losartan. He told me to just stop taking the Metoprolol. I questioned starting off with such a high dose of Losartan. I seem to be very sensitive to these medications and felt starting right off with 100 mg was a bit high. Everything I've read online suggests people are usually started off with 50 mg.
Avatar m tn But basically, angiotensin receptor blockers (losartan appears to be the weakest; the rest are good; telmisartan appears to be strongest) and ACE inhibitors (perindopril - not the others) have been shown in recent years to halt and even reverse aortic root dilatation. The key is that the drugs must be taken in sufficiently high dosages, which often means the maximum FDA-approved dose or higher.
Avatar m tn My 93 y/o Mom just had a stress test and echo. They show a 52% LVEF but a small infarct area at the bottom of the heart. She has no obvious symptoms but her cardiologist has put her on a new regimen of 4 meds (statin, Plavix, losartan, metoprolol)... which she finds terribly overwhelming. My question is ... why both losartan (an Angiotensin II) and metoprolol (a beta blocker)? Don't they both do the same thing by lowering blood pressure and opening up the coronary arteries?
197575 tn?1215532624 Is there a difference between a complex nodule and a complex cystic nodule? I know complex means both solid and cystic. My friend's ultrasound call it a complex cystic nodule. Thanks.
Avatar n tn This is the difference between top and bottom numbers of your blood pressure. The normal range for most people is a pulse pressure (subtract diastolic -- bottom number from systolic -- top number) is 40 to 60. When it is outside that it is called a wide pulse pressure. There are reasons that this can happen and it is used to determine status of your health. Your doctors should be addressing this and starting to do some testing on you. Here is an article about it:https://www.healthline.

2009161 tn?1327915695 I was in a job where I used to work in night shifts, then I checked my BP was 140/90, then I felt normal, after 4 years now 2 months back I was tensed with my office tasks and I was strained that day, surprisingly in the night when I was sleeping, I felt numb on my left side of my face.
Avatar m tn IS THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS TAKING COMBINATION OF TELMISARTAN &AMLODIPINE FOR LONG TIME
Avatar n tn I was prescribed Celexa during tx for HCV, and my liver was in pretty rough shape. I had no problems with it. The other drugs I am not familiar with, so I can't shed any light there - just a layperson's experience with the Celexa.
Avatar n tn Losartan also may cause a persistent cough, increase serum potassium, impotence, and angioedema. Losartan may reduce kidney function in some patients and should not be used by patients who have bilateral renal artery stenosis (narrowing of both arteries going to the kidneys). Rare cases of rhabdomyolysis (muscle breakdown) have been reported.
Avatar m tn hi, a couple of months back my physical came back and everything was good except AST was 55 and ALT was 68. google says normal is 48 for AST and 55 for ALT, although my doctor's *normal* requirements were slightly lower. just looking at my numbers they don't look elevated much at all, but i don't really know if any elevation above normal is cause for concern. i'm in good shape and very active, but i do have a couple of things that may contribute to this. 1.

Avatar n tn Hi. I take boyh losartan 100 AND norvask 5 for HBP. For next month only, i will be able to buy only one of them. Which should I buy?
Avatar m tn I am on these medicine for last 15 years except Telmisartan which i am taking for last one year and have reduced dose of Atenolol from 50 mg (BD) to 25 mg (OD) PLEASE HELP.
1210142 tn?1266077031 I am back on Lisinopril since Losartan did not do any good. My BP became higher- between 131 and 146 over 89/92 so the dizziness is definetely not because of the law blood pressure. Carvedilol is the one giving me problems so I wanted to find out: since I had MI but not heart failure- is is absolutely necessary to take beta blockers? One of the doctors ordered renin test and the results came today quite high- 28.2, the ratio though is ok.

Avatar f tn Bp was still not getting controlled and i was started on telmisartan and also amlodepin along with the metoprolol. The bp was then controlled well for about 3 months, however the anxiety continued. Since the last week my bp is also increasing to 140/90 along with the anxiety and also i am experiencing what i think is hot flashes. Can you please explain the connection between these symptoms and their relation to menop[ause. What can a person do about the same .
Avatar n tn This would best be expedited by a conversation between your electrophysiologist and your asthma doctor. The 2 of them could also decide upon which anti-hypertensive medicines might be best, for example hydrochlorothiazide being an effective anti-hypertensive with no effect on one’s lungs. Good luck.
Avatar m tn I would like to know if there is any relation between BP medicine and Hashimotos as I saw something related to beta blocker and Thyroid issue in the other thread
