difference between salbutamol and ventolin

I was born with eczema and I started to have bronchospasm few years ago. The doc said it might be asthma and prescribed me with salbutamol. However, i found that I don't have the common syptoms as asthmatic people .e.g wheezing or coughing, and it doesn't disturb my sleeping as well. I just feel the bronchi contract and chest tightness which go away after few minutes later without taking the inhaler. I've taken the inhaler before but i found it no use, so i didn't use it anymore.

1 - I am currently taking symbicort and ventolin, and someone told me that if I stop using them (even for just one day), I will have an asthma attack because of my perfume/irritant allergy. Is this true? 2 - What am I supposed to do if I have an asthma attack? Atfter I take my ventolin (for emergencies), am I supposed to go to the hospital or just wait for it to get better?

Use only the prescribed dose of this medicine and talk with your doctor about your individual risks and benefits of using Ventolin. An overdose of Ventolin can be fatal. Watch out for nervousness, headache, tremor, dry mouth, chest pain or heavy feeling, rapid or uneven heart rate, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, nausea, sweating, dizziness, seizure, feeling light-headed or fainting. If you are continuing to have breathlessness, then you may need additional inhalers like ventolin, which contains salbutamol, which is short acting and helps relieve bronchospasm. It would be best to consult your doctor regarding persisting symptoms, he may prescribe additional inhalers or he may change the dose of the steroid inhaler. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

However I am on Seretide (purple inhaler) and ventolin I did not find the ventolin of much use and do not use it as often but the serotide I use and a spacer has helped in the past.

Thank you for pointing out the difference between side effects and allergy. To begin with I thought that I was simply suffering side effects that would pass but when it just kept getting worse and the medication was actually giving me bad attacks I realized there was more going on and went back to the doctor. From the symptoms the doctor thinks that it is actually an allergy.

Last night I ate no food after 5pm that I could react to and around 9 pm I used the blue puffer (Ventolin Salbutamol Sulpate Inhalation Aerosol) and and what was left of my red puffer (Fovent flutisacone propionate - corticosteroid) - AND I immediately broke out in hives and itching everywhere including on my tongue and I had trouble swollowing. I took an anti-histamine and the hives lasted about 90 minutes.

Is it normal that I experience air hunger (shortness of breath), chest pains, and dizziness even though I'm on Symbicort (2x daily) and Ventolin (supposed to be 4x daily, but only take it 2x, or when needed)? I've been diagnosed with asthma last month and I haven't had my appointment with a specialist yet. I find the inhalers help a lot, if I don't take them I experience worst symptoms of shortness of breath, chest pains and dizziness.

Ask him/her if you should also take pills to help you breathe, either SINGULAiRor something similar once in 24hr, and the inhaler. I am not familiar with that particular med, but broncho dilaters are all stimulents and will speed up the heart some. That one may have less of that side effect than Ventolin though. Another option would be Xopenex. It doesn't have the stimulent side effects albuterol has. I hope you find some thing. Some times the regular breathing treatments are needed, but you also need sleep.
