ve been surprised by the difference. I thought I was doing ok on Provigil however on Nuvigil I can see the difference. Provigil allowed me to exist in life, Nuvigil allows me live my life. I hope your experience is as positive as mine has been.

For me there is a wonderful difference between Provigil and Nuvigil. Nuvigil starts to work faster, lasts longer, and really gives me mental energy that I haven't had in several years. The only down side for me is that Nuvigil has basically returned my energy and mental skills to normal. That is good. However, my body has lost so much conditioning over the last 2 years that I will have to work to get my strength and conditioning back. Now I have the energy to do that.

I've been on both Provigil and Nuvigil. There is NO comparison. Nuvigil is hands down MUCH more effective to me than Provigil. Provigil always gave me a "rush" upper feeling. It felt like I was a little high. Provigil, on the other hand, is a slow and gradual release. I take it in the morning, and within an hour or so, I notice I can just concentrate better and am less tired. Its very gradual and lasts a lot longer than Provigil.

The pharmaceutical company that makes these two drugs (nuvigil and provigil) has a program that your neurologist should have the application for to help you pay for the prescription. I will try to find out what the name of it is (I am on it). I ended up getting my provigil for free. I will look and hopefully post back later today!

I stayed awake with the Provigil but still felt tired and sluggish. With the Nuvigil I am alert, more upbeat, and more even throughout the day. Medicare won't cover it, so my doctor is working on a prior authorization. I can't bear the thought of going back to Provigil. And yes, the drug companies are evil, uncaring, greedy organizations.

I was prescribed Nuvigil today by my MS doctor and wanted to see how people liked it. I searched and found some posts, but mostly from people who were just starting it. This is the first medication I've ever been put on for symptom management, so I am excited, but don't want to get my hopes up.

After some waiting, some calls, neuro wants me to stick with it since it's helping fatigue and try a lower dose so I am doing that now and it's better so far and still effective without the sudden heart poundings! So we'll see how it goes. Do you mind me asking why you stopped it after a year? Did you no longer need it or did you try something else? Ison't know how you would know you no longer need it unless you come off it.

I can not afford this or two other medications each would require me to pay between between $600. And $800. I have been trying to find help, going without for the past two months.

when i first went on Provigil, the difference was immediate and made a huge difference, I could actually get up and move. It might depend on how much you need it. I suppose my body got used to it but I also have some different symptoms now, but it still works, just not like the miracle it was at first. But if I don't take it, I can really tell the difference. I am so happy for you, fatigue is one of the worse syptoms in my opinion.

For me, the difference between Nuvigil and Provigil was amazing. Nuvigil gave me back my life. Provigil let me leave the house but I had trouble functioning. And since Provigil is "going away" it is tough to even get samples. My insurance never approved Provigil but they have approved Nuvigil.

My insurance initially said 'no' to provigil because I didn't have narcolepsy. So I tried amantadine and I reacted badly to it. Then my neuro appealed and provigil was approved. I don't know what he said in the appeal, but you might mention this to your doctor. Provigil has gone generic recently and got cheaper, so I don't know if it is any easier to get than nuvigil.

Oh yeah, I feel your pain! I'm hit with the fatigue, too. They started me on Amantadine a few weeks ago and it really isn't working so good. Not a profound difference, that's for sure. I was hoping to get on Provigil but it wasn't offered to me, even though I requested it by name. I have heard that many people do have problems getting it approved by insurance, unless you have a sleep disorder.

A co-worker called this week with a question about our insurance - she was denied provigil/nuvigil, even though her doctor contacted the insurance company and appealed the decision. She suffers great fatigue and the sample helped her a lot. She was wondering if I had any clues as to how others get this drug approved since it is not an MS drug.

Well, I finally had my appt. today along with MORE blood work. My PCP wanted me to see a sleep Dr. due to my fatigue. She I assume is thinking my fatigue is from my sleeping. Sooo, I went to make her happy :) He and I talked and he asked me a gazillion questions etc. He said he does not think there is anything wrong with my sleeping. Sure, I may not sleep "normal" hours lol I'm a night person, I've been like this for a good 20yrs.

I took Nuvigil like Provigil. Go to the company website and they may have a card you can print and take to the pharmacy for a discount. That's what I did with Nuvigil until my insurance started covering it. I started out paying $300 at first. Good luck.

I have taken both Provigil and Nuvigil. The neuro that treats my sleep apnea prescribed Provigil for me several years ago before I was diagnosed with MS. They are expensive meds but do more than any other drug I take to noticably improve my daily life. I'd give up many other things to continue to afford either one. Neither drug gets rid of my fatigue or boosts my energy (wish they did). What they do is help to keep me awake and alert during the day.

Not a huge difference but the difference between being unproductive and productive. When I chatted with the nurse she told me the clinic had many patients on stronger, more addictive meds like Ritalin and Adderall, and that it was just simply a case of to what extent fatigue was impacting their lives. For me, that's the point. Fatigue was interfering with my life in a major way, and when the naps and reducing workload didn't work, I was willing to try amantadine.

I also have severe obstructive sleep apnea, and use a CPAP at night. The provigil does keep me from napping during the day, and I take it when driving longer distances. I would caution you that taking a stimulant does not make up for lost sleep, it may work for a couple of weeks, months or so, but the lack of sleep will come back and manifest itself and make things worse. You should get treatment your sleep apnea.

I have bee taking provigil for years and its got to the point it does nto help me anymore. I'm happy for you that your neuro exam was relatively the same as last Feb.; that is a good sign. I've had to come to terms with pharmaceutical intervention. I'm the person that didn't want to take so much as an aspirin when I had a headache back when I was practicing judo and climbing mountains. Things changed. I'm on several medications; this would run on too long if I listed them all, lol.

I am reading a lot about the drug nuvigil and it seems it can cause insomnia. Has anyone experienced this? I am also going to take cymbalta so it may counteract it a bit. I am a little nervous to take them tomorrow. Oh my .. nothing about this disease is easy. Thanks for all your advice and knowledge. I appreciate it more than u know. love to all .....
