Difference between pristiq and effexor

Common Questions and Answers about Difference between pristiq and effexor

pristiq

I tried Pristiq in an attempt to help with menopausal symptoms. I was (and am) on Effexor XR, and Pristiq is almost identical to Effexor XR. I think the only difference is in their molecules. I didn't find Pristiq any better (for me) than Effexor XR, so I went back to Effexor XR. I wish you the best of luck with it. I hope it works for you.
So this idea that the discontinuation withdrawl is somehow worse with drugs like Pristiq and Effexor that are SNRI's just doesn't hold water to me. Most of the side effect you listed I did not experience on Pristiq and most people do not, but the drug companies have to list all "possible" side effects even if they only effect a very small cross section of patients on said drug. Actually, you can find a list of horrible side effects on any drug if you read the fine print.
I think the withdrawal symptoms are kind of the same for almost all antidepressants. I have been in them for 3 years, first cymbalta, then celexa, wellbutrin, effexor, pristiq and then a COMBO¨: 60 mg of cymbalta and 120 of wellbutrin in the mornings and amytryptilin at nights, went off COLD TURKEY last week and I still feel AWFUL and MISERABLE. Brain zaps 2 (2 every minute), diarrhea, dizziness, my HOLE body terribly aches and I cry for nothing.
Hi, I have been on Effexor XR for 3 years and I have gained about 40-50pounds, most when my dose was increased to 225, now I am on 75mg b/c I'm getting ready to wean off the medicine in a couple of weeks, and I haven't lost anything yet. My eating habits have not changed and I exercise. I have always been underweight and I could eat whatever I wanted...I'm only 26 years old...I know my metabolism has changed some, but not enough to pack on 40 pounds.
You hear only the bad and very little of the good. I took Effexor at 350Mgs a day for 4 years and in that time it gave to me 99% remission from my severe depression. I had to get off it and switch meds after 4 years because it slowly stopped working for me. This may not be the case with you. I am forever grateful for the 4 years of normalcy that Effexor provided me. Are there side effects?
I have been taking between 225-300mmg of effexor for 2-3yrs and it has helpedme but my weight gain is awful. I wighed 125 ponds before tahing this med. and I am now at 160 pounds and I caccot lose this weight. I also work with a personal trainer 2 times a week and exercise regularly 3-5 times a wwek and I am on a 1600 a day calorie diet and I have also cut out eating surgar and I am eating lots of lean cusine meals and have started eating more fruits and vegetables.
My PCP tolad me last week wasn't going to add Aricept or Namends just now, changed Effexor xr 3oo to Pristiq 50. Last night thoughts rambled (now too?) and was in a big panic state. Don't think this is forum for me to discuss- Sorry I do know Lamictal has side effects. Terminated from job 6 weeks ago .Lamictal amd other drugs ? interaction between 2? Think I'll post for MD if site for this question----Does anyone know? Bless each for allowing me to vent.
I've been on Wellbutrin for about 5 years and it's worked wonders for my depression. I also believe it's been a key factor in losing weight and maintaining my weight loss. During the first year and a half of taking it, I lost 30 pounds. Although I didn't necessarily feel less hungry, I felt like I had more energy and I was more in control of my impulsive behavior.
I have suffered from lifelong depression and insomnia and currently take pristiq, which is ok, not great but it's the only stuff with no weight gain and since I have been on and off prednilosone so much and so much injections, i have gained almost 70 pounds and weighed almost 200 pounds. I'm only 5'4", so this doesn't help me. I also have 5 herniated discs in my lower back and 3 in my neck.
I have only taken it a few times, I took Zoloft a while back and couldn't handle the side effects so I went back and he put me on Effexor. I have been more shaky and anxious and upset stomach... the same thing happened on the Zoloft. I don't want to be on this med any longer bcus of the bad experience I had with the Zoloft. I have been looking and the pristiq is almost just like the Effexor, I don't know what to do!?!?!?
I am on Pristiq (the new Effexor) and have not painted since starting the med a few years ago. Recently I set up all the things I need to paint, but I have no motivation to create. I have started to slowly mean myself off Pristiq and will be seeing my psychiatrist tomorrow to discuss. I have no sex drive and feel numb. Are these feeling due to what I am going thru in my life (divorce, losing most of my pets, moving, losing my condo, owing money)? Or is it a side affect of antidepressants?
I have been taking Cymbalta for a little over 2 years now for severe anxiety and chronic depression. While I can definitely say it has made the difference between night and day for me as far as the panic attacks go (I can count on my fingers the number of bad attacks I've had in 2 years--whereas prior to starting Cymbalta they were several times daily and were severely affecting my life. The problem is, I think the Cymbalta charm has worn off.
ct=1 Both published and unpublished data on fluoxetine (Prozac), venlafaxine (Effexor), nefazodone (Serzone), and paroxetine (Paxil) were combined in a technique called meta-analysis, which brings together the data from many different research studies to see if they agree. The researchers concluded that the antidepressants were not any better than placebo for mildly depressed patients.
Hi and Welcome Tramadol Warriors, Please come on in and make yourself comfy. All are welcome.
It has been two months now and I am no longer on the Effexor and currently taking the Fetzima 60mg. The agitation for myself and depression just has been impossible to get rid of since experiencing Serotonin Syndrome. I was very happy on the Efffexor LOVED IT but the weight gain was so bad they weened me off it since then life with MDD & BD1 has been aweful!! To come off Effexor is hell in its self. All I can say is Titrate extremely slowly to avoid Serotonin Syndrome.
My reason for posting it was to clarify for the OP that it is sometimes difficult for family members of chronic pain patients to tell the difference between dependency and addiction, in fact, in my own experience, many of them don't know that there even IS a difference, which can make it miserable for the chronic pain patient.
There is a huge difference between someone addicted to speed (meth, etc) and someone who has ADHD and is taking the prescribed amount of the medication. You can literally stop and start it any time. The only effect is that you go back to the feeling you had before going on the med. So, in your case, there should be nothing to worry about. You could stop it tomorrow, go off it for a few days, go back on it, etc. Many adult users can use it on an only "as needed basis".
Personally, I'd stay away from Paxil and Effexor just as Nursegirl said unless they were the last thing left to try. And I also agree, how long were you on the Lexapro? I've been on Paxil and Lexapro, and Paxil was much more sedating and made me gain a lot of weight, and I'm very active. Or was. Prozac can be stimulating, and its effectiveness with anxiety by reputation isn't as good as other ssris, but it is the most benign to stop taking.

I have noticed some difference between budeprion xl and wellbutrin xl as well. I keep thinking that it's all in my head and wishing that it was since there is a big difference in price between the two. There is definitely something wrong with the generic kind...
I was 194 lbs and a size 16 at 5'9 when i started taking this in July of 08 and now I am 127 and a size 3/1 so it is a noticable difference. I also was able to bring my cholesterol down from 268 to 173 and raise my good cholesterol 5 points! The doctors said that they had never seen a change in cholesterol to that extreme without cholesterol regulation medication. They were amazed.

And now I am on a very similar, updated version of Effexor if you will, called Pristiq. But Effexor is now available in the generic. And if you have insurance, it is available for about $4.00! Just go to the website for Effexor and you will see the info. (And absolutely don't go by the complainers about how hard it is to go off of a SNRI med, because all of them go off of it way too fast by their own comments. It must be tapered off very slowly.
