Common Questions and Answers about Difference between prevacid and zantac

prevacid

Avatar f tn I've had occassional PVC's for 20 plus years. I also have Mitral Valve Prolaps. About 2 months ago I started taking Prilosec for reflux. I then began to have a huge increase in the number of PVC's. Sometimes lasting all day. I've been on an event monitor for the past 2 weeks. I didn't even think that to relate this increase in PVC's to the Prilosec until about a week ago.
290867 tn?1333569278 s what I meant. I meant Prevacid. Mine was put on Zantac first and was then switched to Prevacid and that was better. The Zantac only helped for like a couple of weeks and then went right back. Well, if they have tried all of that, then maybe a GI specialist is the route to go. It sounds like your doc has tried everything. And maybe your doc is right. Maybe when Julian starts solids, it will help. I hope so.....for both your sake. I know it's hard....Just hang in there.
6822962 tn?1396329659 I'm 38 weeks now, and I have been taking previcid & zantac the entire pregnancy. I have GERD and other GI issues prepregnancy anyway. One thing I did find our early in in my pregnancy was that I have a gluten intolerance! This is pregnancy #6 (child #5) n it wasn't till about 9-10 weeks in that I realized I just can't have any gluten! I was really sick n it crazy tummy pain, vomiting n everything ...so I would maybe keep an eye in it for you too...who knows.
Avatar m tn I have just started reading the connection between these issues and the vegas nerve. All the doctors want to do is heavy dose the prevacid, prilosec, nexium, etc. You name it. I've tried it. The water in the morning (at least a quart)and dropping down hard on my heels, for me really works the best. All i've heard about the surgery is 90% negative. What if i really had a heart attack one day. How could you tell the difference in symptoms?
Avatar f tn t been feeling that great and the doc prescribed Prevacid at 30mg twice a day along with 1g of Amoxil and Biaxin. My H. Pylori test came back negative so I could stop the Amoxil and Biaxin. It might take a while but he tells me it will work. On the other hand, a friend of mine had severe reflux and the doc prescribed Protonix. It worked so well that they were able to get off of it and only use it when they feel a flare up coming on (every couple months).
547002 tn?1219797376 In July i was having some swallowing problems or thought i was and they did an EGD and found nothing but a VERY tiny hiatal hernia. My stomach lining was nice and pink. I had been taking prevacid for two weeks prior to the EGD due to the trouble swallowing NOW i want to stop taking the prevacid and every time i try i get really sick. I get weak, nauseaus and for a day or two i literally go to the bathroom constantly and have loose yellow stools with stomach cramps.
Avatar n tn Is it safe to take 60mg of prevacid in the morning and 20 mg of prilosec in the evening?
1448936 tn?1363206346 For the past week I've been dealing with horrible stomach burning and nausea. It feels like my stomach is on fire and it makes me incredibly nauseous. I've been taking zantac and tums but neither offer me much relief. I feel the worst after eating. But it doesn't matter what I eat...I try eating bland foods like noodle soup, saltines, bananas etc but I still feel awful. I sometimes feel hungry but still nauseated at the same time so I have no desire to eat.
Avatar f tn I am on Warfarin and apparently, according to the pharmacist (not the Coumadin Clinic) there can be an interaction. There was also no warning on the box. I transitioned to Zantac from Prevacid because of concern that the Prevacid might be contributing to my arrythmias. I am off of the Zantac for a day or two to see if it makes a difference in my INR.
Avatar n tn I too have been suffering for about 17 years for what I thought and still am thinking is acid reflux. I did fine for many years taking zantac and or prilosec. I lost 55 lbs and everything went away even though I stayed on zantac because I could feel some shortness of breath if I didn't take it. I gained about 30 lbs back and this past summer all the meds stopped working. My biggest problem with my Gerd from the start is that I feel like my food gets stuck in my throat or down in my chest.
906115 tn?1344200509 She just kept getting worse and finally over a weekend we switched her to Nutramigen and kept with the zantac and she only has the projectile vomiting episodes every other day or so. I didn't ask the ped for meds, I just told him she was getting worse as time moved on and he gave her zantac and said to thicken her feedings.
Avatar f tn ve had 3 docs prescribe prevacid and prilosec and one who said its bad to have any. I miscarried when I wasnt on anything and the babies I've had are all fine despite the prilosec. Some docs are more cautious. My doc now is a high risk ob/gyn with experience in fetal development issues and he says its fine. Talk to your doc or a different one...its not good to be so miserable you can't eat...for you or baby.
Avatar n tn You can take otc zantac, tums, maalox, mylanta and pepcid. If it's really bad and none of those help you can see if your doctor is ok with something like prevacid or prilosec.

Avatar n tn I came across a happenstance. I was dx with Gerd in 1999 and was on zantac which after much time cleared up and zantac was stopped. Starting in 2001 I happened to get an SVT episode. In 2006 I had an afib episode and would have about 5 with each progressing year treated with verapamil "pill in the pocket".
1094370 tn?1317134825 m swinging back and forth between one OTC Prevacid in the morning and one at night one hour before dinner but it doesn't seem to be helping. Already tried Prilosec and that didn't help either. Taking Gaviscon tablets in between but they do absolutely NOTHING and I really don't know why I continue to take them. Ughhh....Anyone???
Avatar f tn Tums is definately okay. I googled it and it said zantac was okay so Ive taken it like 3 times when my heartburn was really bad.
Avatar f tn I had it really bad with this pregnancy and my first... my first everything stopped working so my doctor prescribed me with a very high mg of zantac and this time around my doctor put me on a very high mg of prevacid.. the only thing that ***** about the prevacid is that you gotta take 30 mins before breakfast and it makes you nauseous but it works all day long.. for sure talk to your doctor cause what they can prescribe works 20x better then what you get over the counter..
Avatar f tn I will talk to home about Prevacid and zantac. Oh and I can relate to feeling heavy at times too. Mostly when I'm in my feet for to long that's when I feel like an anchor to the ground lol.
Avatar f tn I feel your pain! I suffered with it pre pregnancy and it's only got worse. Leave at least 2 hours between eating and lying down, or even slouching. Avoid onion, peppers, chocolate (even I give it to this one). I'm drinking gaviscon by the gallon which is the only thing that gets rid of it for me. I've been having maternity reflexology and asked the lady to focus on my reflux and back issues.
Avatar f tn t work, or stops working like in my case, Prevacid is also safe during pregnancy and works like a charm. I had it real bad this last time and Prevacid was all that would help me.
1391312 tn?1421086993 Yes Bill, I have been taking the Prevacid 30 mg 2 X a day, and has stopped working for me. I have been on a lot of different ones over the years, I will let you know what he puts me on this time.
Avatar n tn I think there is a difference between bowel/colon polyps which should be removed, and benign stomach polyps caused by PPIs. I was diagnosed today with a stomach polyp and told it was most likely a result of long term use of a PPI (in this case Pariet). Does anyone know if benign stomach polyps develop into something nastier, grow bigger, can be reduced by diet, or changing PPI med?? Thanks This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.
Avatar f tn Zantac.
Avatar f tn my doctor prescribed me zantac 75mg and prevacid. Both are helping but little by little.
Avatar f tn I'm 33 weeks and have had heartburn since week 16. I take two 150mg Zantac daily. Along with tums for breakthrough. My physician told me it was completely fine. I also work with gasrtoenterologist and they recommend the same thing. Ask your doctor if it's ok for you to take that. It has been a life saver for me. Hope you get some relief soon!
14089185 tn?1439417585 My doctor suggested Zantac 150 twice a day because tums didn't help whatsoever.. and trust me I suffered when i didn't take it! My little man was born may 5th and i haven't had to take anything for heartburn since. It'll get worse but should get way better if not disappear after you have your baby. Hang in there it's miserable.
