Avatar f tn Hi. The difference between prednisone and prednisolone is that one is the precursor to the other. Prednisone is activated by enzymes in the liver to turn into prednisolone. They do have similar uses but prednisolone is more readily absorbed by the body. Prednisolone is usually used when there is liver toxicity or liver failure involved. There is no great difference between them, other than the above, however ...
1477978 tn?1289502131 Can anyone tell me what the difference is between Prednisone & Methylprednisolone?
Avatar m tn hello , I had an exposure 11 weeks ago and used prednisolone between weeks 8 to 11 , and after that got a negative ag/ab elisa hiv test . (11 weeks after exposure) . my question is that :as prednisone is an immunosupressant , could it hide my hiv antibodies ? if yes , how about hiv ag ? and is my hiv ag/ab test after 11 weeks (with 3 weeks use prednisolone) accurate ?
Avatar m tn Whats the difference between prednisone and methylprednisone?
Avatar n tn I have had severe breathing problems for years and am on Prednisone often.(about 2 times a year for past 15 years or so) It works! Its not something to over use, but if sick, and your having a hard time breathing, it should help dry up sinuses and nasal drip quickly, should feel better in 2 to 3 days no problem. Make sure you take it for duration prescribed though.
Avatar n tn As a result we have to do our own investigations and run trials on ourselves. You and your father see the connection between prednisone and phlegm. Let the whole world tell you it isn't so. I am with you to say that it is. But the worst problem I found with prednisone and inhaled steroids is that they wreaked havoc with my adrenals.
Avatar n tn Prednisolone was for heat rash and my itchy dots. Today I reduce to 10mg a day and tomorrow 10mg and next 5mg and that's it. I've been taking Prednisolone for 3 and half days so far. The main problem at the moment is just the burning face and neck, specially cheeks just under my eyes and under the chin. The burning once goes from one cheek to another or to the neck or everywhere at the same time. Is it normal in such cases? Thank you.
Avatar n tn i have antithyroid antibodies - mine are not too high (they were in the 100s but since being on synthroid and cutting out gluten etc, they have gotten much lower and one of them is in the normal range now) Anyway - I just did IVF (after almost 2 years of trying to conceive a 2nd child) and was put on prednisone about 2 weeks prior to transfer and I am currently 7 weeks pregnant. I'm still on the prednisone (dr wants me on until 12 weeks).
577603 tn?1217700205 He is always over here looking for something to eat. It is so good to see him feeling better and eating. Good luck to you and I hope they can determine which you have soon.
1297586 tn?1274105947 I am taking hypothyroid meds. I have consulted ENT doc and they prescribed prednisolone, methylcobalamin inj. for this. From last week, I have seen some improvement but not at all cure. I felt some inbalance while walking and still there is some ringing sounds. I want to know whether my hearing problem will be a permanent or not. I want to hear any advice regarding my problem.
Avatar m tn this concerns me, if what you mean is PREDNISONE (the canine variety of prednisolone). How long has your dog been taking prednisolone? This is a very powerful drug that should not be given long term. It can cause some severe and very damaging side-effects. Prednisolone does not cause or treat seizures, but it can create some severe symptoms and primaryt conditions that can lead to a dog having seizures.
Avatar n tn i've been on prednisone 80mg for almost 2 months for my asthma, my doctor hasn't mentioned calcium supplements but I do take a multivitamin on a daily basis.
Avatar m tn It most certainly cannot regrow hair if you have thyroid and adrenal malfunctions. I used prednisone and inhaled steroids and for COPD, It not only resulted in hair loss, but CAUSED me to have an adrenal problem. I got off that junk and now rely on natural anti-inflammatories.
Avatar m tn Hello worriedman198, Prednisolone - the active form of prednisone. According to the reference book I'm currently looking at, The Canadian Guide to Drugs and Supplements" published by Reader's Digest, prednisone/prednisolone, has the following information for users. * Your drug prescription is tailored for you. Do not alter dosage without checking with your physician.
Avatar f tn I am 30 yr old female, 2 days after taking MMR vaccination I started noticing rashes on my neck and within couple of days, rashes with itching had spread to my face, shoulders, arms and my face and neck were swollen, because of which I went ER.
446896 tn?1237802742 This is my first time taking Prednisone and I have had a TERRIBLE experience on this drug! I usually have anxiety, but the last 14 days I have had unbelievable restlessness, panic, insomnia, severe heart palpitations/tachycardia, face swelling, etc. I have spoken to my nurse and two pharmacists who say that these are indeed side effects of prednisone, and that they should get better once I stop the medication.
776872 tn?1247938680 I think that worrying about weight and acne is the least of your future worries. Prednisone over a long period of time is not good for your bones. Our daughter was diagnosed with Crohn's at 12 (January 2008) and she's still not in remission and has gotten worse, started with prednisone 5 mg x 8 tablets per day (40 mgs) she too went down to 5 mg but then it flared up again, then went on Pentasa (which made her almost psychotic so we took her off quickly....
Avatar m tn My 70 lb 12 year old golden retriever has a skin condition and was on Prednisone last year for about three weeks. She broke out with the same rash a few days ago, and (stupidly) instead of taking her to the vet, I gave her the same dosage of medicine that we had left over from the last time. I gave her 20mg in the morning, 20 in the evening, and then realized that I didn't have enough to complete the course for three weeks.
277836 tn?1359666174 I am taking the prednisone for ulcerative colitis all biopsys were negative for it but he sent blood work off and it came back positive for uc it was some kind of antibody test
Avatar f tn HIV COMBO test came negative after 46, 70, 124 and 138 days . I have been taking 5 mg Prednisolone daily for last one year . I have below concern 1. Prednisolone can delay antibodies? 2. These results are conclusive or need to repeat at 6 months?
9214378 tn?1408881584 That was when he vomited and was lethargic. He was taken to the vet and he had a high glucose levels and his kidney and liver levels were messed up. But he urinated so then we prayed for him to eat. He was 14. He then had a seisure, was unresponsive and breathing heavily. My dad then had to make the decision. The vet said he may have had a blood vessel in his brain burst (I can't remember the term). My mom and I thought being taken off the prednisone killed him.
Avatar n tn I would be interested in learning if there are others with the combination of asthma and chronic bronchitis that are on Prednisone and what your dosage is. I attempt to take the minimum Prednisone necessary to keep the air passages open but I continue to worry about the trade-offs. Is it better to stay on high dosage and greater breathing comfort or "live on the dosage edge" (taking the minimum to breath) and suffer from the symptoms of asthma and chronic bronchitis.
Avatar m tn I just now understand that Prednisolone (corticosteroid) or Prednisone is an immunosuppressant drug and from what I have read there is a possibility that it may delay the production of antibodies? I want to confirm if there was ever a possibility in a false-negative test result in my case? If no, can I be absolutely certain that I do not need to ever re-test again? Thanks.
Avatar m tn What does that mean? There is a big difference between an eye doctor and a Medical Doctor who is specifically trained in the eye, the body and surgery=Ophthalmologist. You need to maek sure to see an ophthalmologist...and this is not to say optometrists are no good, trust me I employ an optometrist and she's fantastic. Retinits...it sounds inflammatory. Probably has some form of Autoimmune Retinitis and not an infectious form of Retinitis.
1433307 tn?1300339642 I am a transplant recipient and my underlying disease was HCV. I had an acute organ rejection episode and was administered intravenous prednisone to stop the process. I later achieved SVR so, though I suspect that my viral load increased with the prednisone, prednisone did not preclude successful treatment.
