Avatar n tn Both pretrty much the same thing. These are generics for Lipitor and Pravachol, both very affectve. Below are the results of a study that was recently done; "With so many statins available for clinical use in coronary artery syndromes, there has been much discussion about which is the best. Two recent trials have compared the clinical outcomes of intensive lipid lowering with atorvastatin 80 mg/day and standard lowering with pravastatin 40 mg/day.
Avatar n tn Pulse pressure is the difference in blood pressure between the systolic blood pressure and the diastolic blood pressure. Pulse pressure in healthy adults in a sitting position is about 40 mmHg. Your have a wide pulse pressure of 93mmHg.

Avatar m tn My meds are Coreg 6.25 and lipitor 20 one day 40 the next..In the past two weeks I have worked to exhaustion up a 5m ladder cutting old ivy and bouganvillea. 225237 tn?1333138999 This is a simple statin, it is very safe with a risk of side effects between 2% and 4% depending who you listen too and only .02% of serious side effects. These numbers make this a very safe drug. Look here for more; "Pravastatin is generally well tolerated; adverse reactions have usually been mild and transient. In 4 month-long placebo-controlled trials, 1.7% of Pravastatin-treated patients and 1.
Avatar m tn I also use to suffer from extreme and constant fatigue and loss of strength. I no longer have the fatigue problem and my strength is back thanks to Testosterone Therapy having boosted my T levels to about 780. Even so I still suffer from the ED. I can achieve about a 3/4 errection but never a fully very hard erection. The one I do achieve require much effort on my part ,if not I will loose the errection as quick as it came.
Avatar f tn I was taken to the ER, where they ruled out heart attack or stroke. They gave me fluids and Zofran and sent me home. Last night, watching TV in bed in an air-conditioned room, it happened again. Consequently, I had trouble sleeping and feel shaky this morning and have a pulsating feeling on the top of my skull. What could this be?
Avatar m tn Yes, have been on 5 mg lipitor this entire time. And have been fasting before each blood test. So it seems the rise in TG and drop in HDL is a mystery. As mentioned the only changes were the med change about 6 weeks ago..
Avatar n tn I took niacin for 20 yrs. I am now 67 and have tried two different popular statins( lipitor and crestor which did lower LDL about 50 pts but also lowered HDL). I could not tolerate either statin because of personality changes ie: anger and irritability all the time and severe cognitive issues with memory, reasoning and being able to focus. After stopping each statin, it has taken me longer to get back to normal mentally.
Avatar n tn The greater the difference between your systolic and diastolic numbers, the stiffer and more damaged the vessels are thought to be. Evidence suggests that pulse pressure may be a strong predictor of heart problems, especially in older adults. But systolic pressure is the best predictor in people older than age 55. In adults older than age 60, a pulse pressure greater than 60 mmHg is abnormal. Treating high blood pressure usually reduces pulse pressure as well.
Avatar n tn I was on 40mg of Pravastatin and now am on 80mg. Is my doc just being aggressive? Or is there another reason for the big increase?
Avatar f tn They claimed there is a strong link between high fat intake and death from heart disease/stroke. They even listed the countries, but an independant study done by europe found the results to be false. They were the opposite. In fact, countries with higher cholesterol levels had far fewer heart problems. In Japan, their cholesterol rose by 20% between 1958 and 1999 due to diet change. They used to have the highest rates of deaths from strokes.
Avatar f tn There is much controversy about cholesterol, but it is muted because of pharmaceutical financial interests in statins. Half of those who die of strokes or heart attacks have no history of high cholesterol. DeBakey discounted cholesterol. My own doctor pays no attention to it. What is the true role of cholesterol and how should one proceed? I don't know, but I won't take Lipitor.

Avatar m tn Back in March, I was diagnosed with really high cholesterol (268, with LDL being 192) and I was put on Lipitor. I couldn't take it very long because it made me feel sick so the doctor switched me to Pravastatin. I soon switched doctors because he was making me uncomfortable with the things he was saying and my new doctor did a liver enzyme test. It came back elevated so she took me off of the Pravastatin to see if my enzymes would improve.
Avatar f tn My overall cholesteral is 186 - so pretty good. I have been on a statin (Lipitor) and have noticed that my diabetes markers are higher (still pre-diabetes) and I've been having some memory issues, so I'm not too happy about that! But, I haven't been feeling any other ill effects so I'm glad about that. I hope that you're doing well.
Avatar m tn I can't find an interaction between pravastatin and levo, but that doesn't mean there isn't one. Levo should be taken on an empty stomach, then nothing to eat or drink except water for 30-60 minutes. There are people who take it at night; however, you do need to make sure there's adequate time for your stomach to empty, between your last meal and taking the med. All other medications should be separated from the levo for a couple hours, if possible.
Avatar n tn It is very important to understand statistics here and the difference between relative risk and absolute risk reduction. Much of the advertising with statins describe a 36% risk reduction in heart attacks. This is a relative risk reduction. The absolute risk reduction is a decrease from a 3% risk to a 2% risk.
Avatar n tn I recently was prescripbed pravastatin and I notice a higher number when I test after a night of fasting in my Blood Glucose. Is there a posibility that could cause the rise.

1806721 tn?1554333407 Welcome and thanks for your question. Statins can cause muscle and joint pain as a side effects. It happens in approx 1 out of every 2,200 users so it's worth mentioning it to your doctor. Keep in mind that muscle and joint pain are the most common medical complaint and a symptom off many conditions so it could very likely not be related to your meds.
Avatar f tn The study found that the patients on simvastatin achieved the target LDL level of less than 130, more than those on pravastatin (65 percent on simvastatin versus 35 percent on pravastatin). The most common side effects of the statins in general are nausea, gas, and upset stomach. Less common are headache, dizziness, rash, sleep disturbances, muscle pain, cramps, or weakness.
10996785 tn?1432812977 s from detox, pneumonia, and a stroke. with the stroke, which is considered small and deep in my cerebellum, my vision and balance was effected. My balance was already damage from the benzo's and alcohol abuse. Lately some of you might have read my last thread that I haven't been feeling well.
