plavix

315318 tn?1353251800 7 Sec) aPTT 31 Sec ( Ref 24 Sec) As I said in the earlier post, Plavix, according to tests done at a New York Hospital, does not do any platelet inhibition for me. Hence Effient. Incidently, Plavix and Effient come from the same chemical family and the mode of action is identical. Now whether they keep me on Effient (10 mg) +Aspirin (320 mg) therapy for 1-2 years or for life remains to be seen. Prior to stenting back in December, I was only taking 80 mg of Aspirin.
482754 tn?1341791494 I no longer have to take clopidogrel and effient wasn't around for me to use. However, I do remember reading some articles on this medication. Although it has been approved for patient use, it does have one concern. If you are on this drug and have surgery such as a bypass, it tends to cause severe bleeding, which can be fatal. Clopidrogrel (plavix) has no such problem attached to it. On the plus side, it reduces other risks dramatically and outperforms clopidogrel hands down.
Avatar m tn I was told with Effient I wouldnt have to stay on it for life like the Plavix. I was looking at the risks and fatal bleed charts and it increases the risk the longer I am on it. My liver enzymes are slightly elevated so I would like to remove anymore stress on my liver if its not needed. Also the surgeon wont touch my hernia surgery until I can stop taking it. Do you know when you can stop taking it or is it something you just have to keep taking?
Avatar f tn How long have you been on effient? I know when I have a stent and put back onto plavix, I feel heavy chested for about six months but it then seems to wear off. If your Cardiologist is not too concerned about the side effects, I would try to put up with them and see if your body adjusts. The benefits of this medication are very important to your stent.
315318 tn?1353251800 I was told that this was due to my genes and 30% of the population similarly can not use Plavix. . Then the physician prescribed me with Effient. Since it was a new drug and Christmas eve with early closing, I had hard time locating a pharmacy which stocked Effient. Eventually, I did find a place which had the drug.
Avatar m tn The best thing you can do is take your aspirin and plavix (or alternative). You should never miss a dose and never stop it unless approved by your cardiologist. To my knowledge, there is no specific diet that aids in this. However, diet, exercise, a positive mindset, keeping your blood pressure/cholesterol under control and getting screened for diabetes can all help in preventing further progression of heart disease. You should also qualify for cardiac rehabilitation.
Avatar n tn On 3d catherization in 9 years, 2 stents placed end to end in LAD. Placed on 10mg Effient; after 5 weeks changed over to 75 mg Plavix (also take 30 mg Isosorbide monitrate along w/0.81 mg aspirin. For first 4+ weeks heaviness in chest w/periodic angina. Notice with excitement or now-a propensity to become angrier easier, have chest pains for awhile. I have always been very healthy and full of energy-that is, until this year.
Avatar n tn I had read the difference in anti-platelet and anticoangulant between the agents as you stated, but I flet it unnecessary to get that technical with the chemistry. The point I wanted to make was there are different mechanisms of action and to evaluate what is appropriate (the doctor should know!).
Avatar n tn You are correct that your stents will now have a new artery lining grown through the mesh, but this seems to mean nothing in relation to the stent forming clots. Some patients were taken off plavix after 2 years and suddenly formed clots. I can certainly understand your frustration, but do you risk the same thing again. If I was in your situation and wanted to come off the medication, then I would feel much happier being in the hospital or pretty damn close to it.
315318 tn?1353251800 According to the hospital staff I was in last week, I am in the 30% of the population who can not convert Plavix to its active form and therefore they prescribed Effient. This is the same staff who prescribed fenofibrate ! I just read about the interaction of fibrates and statins on drugs.com before I saw your message. I had a vague feeling about the interaction and that's why I stopped it yesterday.
Avatar n tn was recently diagnosed w/ small liver hemangioma and am wondering if anyone knows if it is ok to be on aspirin and effient (like plavix) due to coronary stent or does this pose a risk of hemangioma bleeding?
Avatar f tn I forgot to list Effient and aspirin on my medication. Effient replaces plavix. Thanks for the encouragement and information.
255163 tn?1376869746 My heart Dr will not let me go off the plavix and my surgeon will not do the surgery while on plavix. What happens in a situation like this?. I am between a rock and a hard place. If neither Dr gives in what do I do? If I have an attack and end up in the ER wouldn't they have to do emergency sugery?. Does this mean that anyone on plavix can never have surgery unless it's an ermergency. What is your opinion on going off plavix temporarily for surgery. I would welcome anyones advice.
Avatar m tn I was prescribed Effient which seemed to make my heart race sonI stopped it in Oct. I had knee surgery and found out in process that withou Effient I am at risk for a clot and heart attack. I am ready to go back on it but I want my knee surgery to heal. Will the Effient slow the healing process on the knee?
Avatar n tn t think Plavix was working on me, my coagulation time never changed. He put me on Effient and I already notice the difference in coagulation time when I ***** my finger for testing my glucose level.Do you think I will have to go thru this again? Do you think the other 7 stents will also collapse?
Avatar m tn Yes I will never go off the plavix again and am slowly moving up on the coreg and lisinopril. doing blood work each week to monitor and blood pressure once daily. I understand the ICD to be a safety device due to the higher occurrence of rapid heartbeat and sudden death when ejection fraction goes below 35. will have it implanted next week. What confuses me is that I was able to kick butt in the cardiac rehab and felt great. On appearence one would never believe I have heart disease.
1210142 tn?1266077031 Actually there are studies showing zero interraction between Prilosec and Plavix also so it is very difficult to see what this is. Thank you though and please keep me posted.
Avatar n tn June he had a stroke, they gave him clot busting meds, he had a stent put in his cariod artery, all ultra sounds of heart and neck are good, went to nuero and cardiologist in aug. My concern every am when he first gets up he takes his bp before he takes his am meds and its always high, then after meds it drops down. What causes this? The am 170/110 then 1 hour later 120/76. am meds are isosorbide 30mg plavix 75 mg zantac 150mg coreg 12.
Avatar m tn Apparently, OP experiences other problems believed to be associated with plavix and that should also be a consideration for him. I discontinued plavix after a year or so and my wallet is happy.
Avatar m tn i have asked him to get off of it and he said he wouldnt recomend it. between that and the 50mg of metroporol and the lisinipril it makes me tired.im glad i only have a 10.
Avatar m tn I am a dentist who recently was advised by my RDH staff that a 6 month period always exists between a heart attack and the patient's prophylaxis. This was taught in their school. Until now, for 31 years, I have relied on the advisement, case by case, of the patient's MD and also the evaluation that we make of the patient's health and periodontal condition prior to the appointment. Sometimes we wait a few months, sometimes we have seen a patient only weeks after an event.
Avatar m tn I experienced many side effects from the effient and aspirin, and they were becoming increasingly worse - GERD, terrible bruising and bleeds that were becoming more common. Two months ago, after I had been complaining to my cardiologist for two years that I was headed for a bleed, it happened. I developed a bad flu, and began bleeding from the lower colon and landed up in hospital again while I was taken off the blood thinners.
3974127 tn?1411346003 Shortly after two of the stents were inserted, I had an event labeled a heart attack, a blood clot had blocked the artery between the two stents. I was taking Plavix and aspirin. It is suspected that artery between the two stents spasmed creating the problem. I've read posts on this site for a long time, and have seen posts critical of doctors who prescribe both Plavix and Aspirin, and other posts critical of taking one without the other drug.
161427 tn?1229911282 ) the smaller strokes, She is on Lipitor and Plavix, and due to a mixup at the pharmacy she was off her Plavix for almost a week and the improvents were dramatic!!
