Avatar n tn I would like to know the difference between osteoporosis and osteoarthrits?
Avatar f tn But please do have this checked and discuss with your doctor. However, please note that osteoarthritis in and of itself can cause swelling. https://www.webmd.com/osteoarthritis/ostearthritis-of-the-knee-degenerative-arthritis-of-the-knee#1. Do you take any medication for the arthritis or pain?
Avatar m tn All medications have the potential for side effects. Interactions between medications and herbal supplements are possible. Please check with your doctor and/or pharmacist before combining any medications and supplements.
209987 tn?1451935465 My mom says that her Osteoarthritis does NOT cause her hands to become red, hot, and swollen every morning. She says they become stiff, swollen, and painful. I just read elsewhere that her symptoms are typical of osteoarthritis...mine are not. In fact, the article said that red and hot are not signs of osteoarthritis at all, but they could be symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, major organs shutting down, allergies, etc. My doctor looked at my hands one day and said that I had osteoarthritis...
Avatar f tn Osteoporosis is the thinning of bone tissue and loss of bone density over time. If you do not get enough calcium, or if your body does not absorb enough calcium from the diet, bone production and bone tissues may suffer. As you age, calcium and phosphate may be reabsorbed back into the body from the bones, which makes the bone tissue weaker. And this happens with the bones of your entire body.
7469840 tn?1409845836 I just googled ribavirin and osteoporosis, and there does seem to some connection, so will try to print out some articles for new doc, and will take all my hcv tx info with me too.
597401 tn?1241268686 I've been told that the difference between CRPS 1 (RSD) and CRPS 2 is 1 is due to an injury (I broke my left ankle and foot.) and 2 is due to specific nerve injury (I injured a disc in my C spine which injured the nerve roots to my arms.) I've also been told (from a different source) that CRPS 2 is generally a more aggressive, more severe form of the CRPS's - it spreads faster, and is much more difficult to treat. I'd like your opinion on the second statement. . .

Avatar f tn I got my DEXA scan results today, which showed LOW NORMAL DENSITY for my spine (L1-L4 lumbar vertebrae) and OSTEOPENIA in my hips..... NO out and out Osteoporosis and certainly not severe osteoporosis!!! I would LOVE any feedback/opinions on this MAJOR difference in scans.......... After feeling like I've been walking around with eggshells prone to break at a whisper, I am ready to celebrate, but did want to get some opinions about the above before getting overly joyous....! Thanks!!!

197575 tn?1215532624 Is there a difference between a complex nodule and a complex cystic nodule? I know complex means both solid and cystic. My friend's ultrasound call it a complex cystic nodule. Thanks.
109530 tn?1279743796 ve never come across any data showing a relationship between osteoporosis and MS. However, sufferers from both are overwhelmingly female. In general, MS begins to develop at a younger age and osteoporis occurs post-menopausily. One thing you need to keep in mind, now that you have both, is that steroids used to treat severe exacerbations are very hard on bone density. If you need steroid treatments, try to space them widely apart, and make them a last rather than first resort.
Avatar f tn There isn't one. There are too many factors, such as osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, her over all health, sun exposure, kidneys, etc..... Now I say this, because most people take in calcium with their vitamin D. Milk, dairy, etc However, many supplements also include calcium with the Vitamin D. Most daily supplements, like Centrum Silver contain enough Vitamin D to be beneficial to the elderly.
Avatar m tn t expecting that especially @ 32 with a 4 yr old and 7 month old!! Anyways, he adviced pain meds and synvisc-one injections until we couldn't control the pain enough. I tried the injections. I won't lie the are a bit painful. My right one was just uncomfortable. The left one hurt way worse. I have no idea why but it even swelled up and I had to stay off it about 24 hours b/c of all the fluid on it.

Avatar n tn Are you on med for your osteoporosis? I've had osteopenia for quite a few years and have been on a dosage of calcium and have actually begun to turn it around and rebuild some of the bone I had lost. I'm not sure that can happen with full blown osteoporosis or not, but it might be worth looking into.
Avatar f tn Don’t use aluminum foil unless you wrap the food in parchment paper first. There is a link between aluminum foil and Alzheimer’s and other dementia related diseases. Then find a doctor who doesn’t want to pump you full of pharmaceuticals that are making the Wall Street barons rich on your ignorance and unfortunate circumstances and your lack of knowledge of how dangerous those drugs are. We are a commodity to those people. Wake up, please. Today I am finally off all meds and eating right.
Avatar f tn Cervical Spondylosis is a general term for age-related wear and tear affecting the spinal disks in your neck. As the disks dehydrate and shrink, signs of Osteoarthritis develop. Cervical Spondylosis actually means Osteoarthritis of the Cervical Spine. So the answer is the same to your question regrading Osteoarthritis. I would assume you medical provider would refer you to a Neurosurgeon. I want to commend you for educating yourself on your condition. Read - Read - Read.
Avatar n tn At your mother’s age the things you should look at are calcium deficiency and Vit D deficiency along with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and probably gout too. The chronic pain in joints can be due to osteoporosis too. Menopause itself can cause joint aches and pains and responds well to hormone replacement therapy. It is normal for most people to feel the pain at night as this time all work is over and the aches and pains become more prominent.
