Difference between lovenox and heparin

Common Questions and Answers about Difference between lovenox and heparin

lovenox

Avatar f tn Hi, I'm an RN and I can tell you that heparin and levonox are basically the exact same thing. They are often used interchangeably in hospitals. The major difference in the molecular weight. Otherwise they do the exact same thing. However, you shouldn't be taking heparin and aspirin 325 at the same time, it might thin out your blood to a dangerous degree. You usually have to do an INR to monitor the blood clotting ability and to ensure that your blood isn't too thin.
Avatar m tn im currently taking heparin...i had a choice of lovenox or heparin and chose heparin...i was diagnosed with factor v leiden which is a blood clotting disease...preg increases my risk of DVT's big time so my doc took no chances...both lovenox and heparin will not harm the baby or the doc wouldnt subscribe it to preg women who have blood clotting issues such as myself... i have a friend who i believe had MTHFR and all she did was take baby aspirin....
Avatar n tn Both of my deliveries were induced at 39 weeks. I stopped taking the heparin the day before and went in the next morning to have my babies. Best of luck with everything!
330481 tn?1309488243 Hey girl, I have the exact diagnosis and before I got diagnosed I had 3 miscarriages and they tested 2 of the 3 and they came back normal so the ob knew that it was my body rejecting the pregnancies. So he put me on extra folic acid, B complex, baby aspirin and heparin and the next pregnancy stuck and I had my little girl who turned 2 last week.
281219 tn?1219114914 my doctor said heparin has been recalled, and so he put me on lovenox today -- what are the risks with that? i know i will have a c/s since I have had a prior uterine rupture.
Avatar f tn It's called heparin. Lovenox does not have a medicine to counter block. Basically you will be given a medicine to stop you from bleeding out.
1414636 tn?1288284680 t pay for it and it was very expensive. So now I have medicaid and the doc has perscribed me lovenox.
Avatar n tn Hi there. Went today for my 31 week appt and my ob had mentioned that we switch from lovenox to heparin at about 36 weeks. I'm on lovenox for factor 5 with history of a blood clot. She also then recommended induction at 39 weeks.... the heparin would be a good idea if an epidural was needed/wanted but it's more cost and twice a day rather than once. I'm really focused on a natural delivery but understand that plans can change suddenly.
Avatar f tn My doc, will switch me to heparin when I get to 7 months. I guess heparin is easier to control with bleeding. Lovenox I guess has a harder time being reversed. Ewww. So scary. I'm so terrified that I will hemorrhage during my csection. Thank you for making me feel not so alone. ♡♡ good luck and how far along are you?
585875 tn?1323654505 Hi Ingy! I won't be on heparin, but on lovenox (also a blood thinner), since I have Factor V. I think my RE wants me to start after retrieval...but not 100% sure.
Avatar f tn Okay so I am 37+4 and I have been on Heparin for a little over a week now and was on lovenox since I found out I was pregnant due to a DVT I had back in June of 2012 after gallbladder surgery. My question is can I request to be induced? Its been stressful and I'm worried about going into labor naturally and not being able to have an epidural or having complications due to having to be on this medication. Does anyone think I would be able to be induced because of this risk factor?
Avatar n tn In other cases you might have to take a shot of low-dose heparin every day (usually lovenox). I have Factor V and have had two miscarriages, although my doctor does not seem to think it has anything to do with it, as it seems to have more of an impact in the second and third trimester (I was supposed to start Lovenox when a heartbeat was detected). Both my miscarriages were early on (8 weeks and 6.5 weeks).
Avatar n tn One option, however, is to be bridged with heparin until the day of the surgery (heparin has a very short half life and can be discontinued few hours prior to the operation) and then restarted a day after his operation assuming that there are no complications. Some also advocate doing a TEE to see if there is clot in the left atrium and if so postpone the operation until it resolves.
523025 tn?1227557625 m going to have this little girl earlier than expected. We discussed my section and the doctor wants me off all lovenox/heparin for at least a week before he does the surgery. Since i went into labor with my daughter at 39 weeks he thinks i'll go earlier than that with this one. So he is giving me an amnio at 37.5 weeks to see if her lungs are developed - if so he said he will deliver her between 37.5 and 38 weeks. That means Christmas baby for me!!!
Avatar f tn Was it a pre-measured injection? If so, once you're done and the needle is out of you, press down firmly on the plunger portion of the syringe. This action *should* activate the safety mechanism that pops a clear cover over the needle. It took me 2 weeks of injections to realize this existed! 40mg is a small dose so I don't think it would cause reactions, but I'm not a doc or pharmacist so if it keeps up you should definitely ask one of them about it.
Avatar f tn Im 18 weeks, my dr just called this morning saying my bloodwork has shown I should be on lovenox shots once a day. I do not want to be on these shots and have my baby have some wierd side effect because of them. Im pretty holistic and am already on an low dose asprin (which I dont like taking) a day and they still want me to do this. Ive done lots of research but still im torn between following my intuition and following drs orders.
593530 tn?1263847957 Is anyone taking Lovenox or Heparin injections during pregnancy? Or have you taken either for prior pregnancies? I'm just really nervous about the fact that my doctor told me in order to get an epidural the drug will have had to be out of my system for about 12 hours. He acted like it was pretty common and no big deal, but I'm just worried. If there is too much of the drug in my system it could cause a blood clot causing permanent paralysis! I'm just a little freaked out.
Avatar n tn continue through with warfarin, or to stop the warfarin and bridge in between with enoxaparin or heparin (as snconorm had done). http://www.circ.ahajournals.org/cgi/content/full/116/22/2531 So continuing through with warfarin seems to be the newer strategy. What would NOT be done is to stop anticoagulation altogether.
598654 tn?1330217159 d get a second opinion on having to take coumadin for the rest of your life and maybe even a 3rd. The Lovenox and heparin do not cross into the placenta to the baby but coumadin does. I really hope you find this helpful. I've had a long 2 pregnancies, therefore chose not to have more children, but having the Factor 5, you can still definately have perfectly happy healthy children.
270512 tn?1333177636 I started mine (actually Heparin, which was changed to Lovenox when Heparin was recalled) on day 1, when I started my other shots. I don't know the reasoning behind it. I guess every doctor has a slightly different protocol. The fewer injections you have to take, the better, right? By the time I was finished with injections (at 12 weeks pregnant), I'd been stuck 282 times that cycle alone (yes, I counted!) Good luck with your IVF!
215752 tn?1278004771 I think the heparin will make the difference!!! I am on lovenox and asprin and I believe that this is what is making the pregnancy successful!!! Good Luckt o you!!!
Avatar f tn Has anyone been put on bedrest until delivery and use Blood Thinners Heparin and Lovenox to keep from getting blood clots?
Avatar f tn I had a very complicated delivery with my son and lovenox my son was born in dec 09. He is now 11yrs. old and he has a reading disability. I wanted to know if your child has any problems? I have always wondered if the blood thinners may have been the cause?
Avatar f tn I went to the doctor yesterday and the doctor gave me a prescription for heparin and I was suppose to start today. Well my insurance will not pay for it and it cost $4000 (this is not a typo) I called the doc this morning and the nurse said I really need this med and the ins suppose to pay for it and she would get it taken care of. I just called again and they suppose to be working on it and this time they told me to stay on the levonox until further informed.
1299014 tn?1273247877 The second time I got pregnant, I was already on baby aspirin and I was suppose to start Lovenox shots once a heartbeat was detected. Well I started spotting the day of my 6 week appointment, and was cramping by the time I got to the doctor. They did see a heartbeat, and I picked up the lovenox on the way home, but never got to start it, as I miscarried naturally that night.
178698 tn?1228774338 m taking Lovenox twice a day and 8 weeks along just like you. The big thing with these heparin injections is not to rub the site or it can cause alot of bruising. I also get big lumps under my skin and it actually hurts to bend over but they seem to go down in a couple of days. I'm hoping the doctor this week will tell me I can do my Lovenox injections somewhere besides my abdomen to give my belly a much needed break allready! We have along way to go!
