Difference between lidocaine and novocaine

Common Questions and Answers about Difference between lidocaine and novocaine

lidoderm

Avatar n tn Well, I don't know, they've always called it novocaine in front of me. In fact, I've had discussions with them about the "novocaine" and the effects of the epinephrine in it. I looked it up and according to google results "novocaine" is still regularly used. That included my "surgeries" in which I was fully awake, and just numbed.
Avatar n tn t find any scientific articles that specifically deal with positive test results of cocaine from the use of lidocaine (anesthetic) but it is mentioned a few times. Here's a website with the information posted for false positives. You may want to contact the writer of the article to see what his/her sources were. http://www.med.nyu.edu/patientcare/library/article.html?
Avatar m tn Had an experience with lidocaine yesterday at the dentist office. I had a deep cavity filled and was given novocaine, lidocaine with epinephrine. After that, my heart was racing, hands were shaking and had to sit up . Immediately told the dentist and dental assistant, they gave me a few minutes waiting for the medicine to numb the area an to wait out the shaky feeling I had. After a few minutes, they did the dental procedure that went well.
Avatar m tn I had my top four front teeth removed and had implants placed, all with just novocaine and nitrous oxide. I was very nervous about the whole thing. The NO just made me feel relaxed and the procedure was quick and totally painless. I didn't feel a thing and could hear the oral surgeon speaking to his assistant. You don't really go to sleep with it and are always in control of yourself. Totally waking up is a breeze, too. A little oxygen and all the nitrous is gone from your system.
Avatar f tn Thank you all for your advice! Misawa47, I can't believe you had a biopsy with no novocaine... that is terrible! Hospital incompetence! I'll be thinking of you. My experience wasn't that bad with the biopsy... I was totally numb and brought my IPOD. I did specifically tell them that I had a bad reaction to Epinepherine in Novocaine at the dentist once and they said, they wouldn't use the Lidocaine with Epinepherin.
Avatar f tn Benzocaine and Lidocaine are two quite different products, neither are trade names (unlike xylocaine which is a trade name of lidocaine). Normally I do not correct folks on forums, but the dangerous dose difference between the two is significant. 20% benzocaine may be acceptable for some applications, 20% lidocaine is likely to end in a bad way.
Avatar f tn I had some dental work done a few weeks ago, at 37 weeks. I had xrays but was double jacketed and had novocaine and fillings, but I can't get my decaying wisdom teeth out until after baby is here. I'm pretty sure it all depends in your circumstance. My dentist had to fax consent forms to my doctor asking for permission to do the dental work.
210982 tn?1280983895 My uncle who had cancer found that it was the only thing that took his back pain away. It has some sort of lidocaine, novocaine, or zylocaine properties in it that numbs the area of pain.I think you would benefit from it. You can pick it up from Walmart. If not, ask your doc For some Zylocaine Jelly. This is prescription strength and numbs the area really good, without making you feel high.Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn t think it could have been the dentist and novocaine. I have really read a lot about sudden hearing loss and never heard of it being a result of a dental visit or novocaine. It was almost certainly a coincidence. If you were already on the prednisone for two weeks and you didn't recover any hearing, it probably isn't going to help you. I believe the taper is simply to avoid side effects from stopping it suddenly. So if your doctor said it was OK to stop, it's OK.
197575 tn?1215532624 Is there a difference between a complex nodule and a complex cystic nodule? I know complex means both solid and cystic. My friend's ultrasound call it a complex cystic nodule. Thanks.
Avatar f tn We stopped my Cymbalta about a month ago and it made a HUGE difference in how I feel mentally and emotionally. Apparently that wasn't the drug for me, and it makes no difference in my pain, which was the point of going on it to begin with. I had a terrible fibromyalgia flare-up before Thanksgiving. The worst in a long time. To the point I had to crawl up the stairs and go down on my bum. The flare-up finally broke and I was dealing with the regular pain.
Avatar n tn The second trimester is OK to do dental work if necessary. I'm not sure i follow. The root canal has gone bad and you're in pain?? or the tooth has broken and you will require a post and crown to restore the tooth. Either way, it's OK to have novocaine without epinephrine, and only take x-rays if absolutely necessary with double shielding.
1425608 tn?1320894142 He said I probably have IC and pedundal neuropathy, and before I knew what was going on, the doc jammed a straight catheter into my urethra and injected a mixture of heparin and lidocaine into my bladder. He said it would help ease/numb the pain and wants me to come back once a week for 6 weeks to have this done.
Avatar n tn They used a composite (tooth-colored) filling to replace it. I received two Novocaine shots and the procedure went very smoothly. The dentist said there was no new decay under the old filling. After the Novocaine wore off, I had considerable pain where the shots had been given, mostly it seemed in my jaw near my ear. That went away after a couple days. I had mild discomfort in the tooth where the work had been done, but no big deal.
Avatar f tn I looked Novacaine (Novocaine/Novocain) up on the web and found one side possible side effect is "slow, irregular heart beat". I've never had any noticeable reactions and I had a mouth full last month when I had a redo on a full crown. I suffer from AFib, so I am (over) conscious of heart beat, and I didn't notice anything. Some people have allergic reactions, ask you dentist what they think.
Avatar m tn Hi, I'm prescribed a lidoderm 5% patch, which is basically a patch infused with lidocaine. It helps with the nerve/muscle type pain I have in the lower left leg facing outward. By itself, for bad pain it wouldn't be worth the money, but I'm prescribed Lortab 10/650's ( a narcotic ) and the two used together seem to help lower this pain better than either one treatment alone.
Avatar f tn Thought I would report about this incase anyone was interested... I went in today. The procedure took about an hour. The only thing I experienced was some sleepiness which lasted for about an hour after. My pain level was about a 7 when I got there, but I hadn't taken my morning pain med. It was a 4 when I left, but again, I had been sitting in a comfy recliner with warm blankets, so it's hard to really tell.
Avatar f tn Importantly, differences between subtype 1a and 1b (by far the most frequently encountered genotype 1 subtypes in clinical practice) include different efficacies of antiviral drugs and different resistance profiles to such drugs. Indeed, several HCV inhibitors appear to have selective activity against different HCV genotype 1 subtypes, both in vitro and in vivo....
Avatar m tn what is the difference between addiction and dependence? I was reading another post and someone mentioned that he/she thought someone was dependent not addicted.. I'm just curious. Thanks in advance for any responses.

Avatar n tn One medication may have been developed first and others later that are somewhat similar chemically and in the same chemical family but they may be completely different medications. I take Methocarb and that is prescribed for me to control dystonic spasms. It is an anti spasmodic. Meprobamate is an anti anxiety medication. Any of these medications can be prescribed for other purposes as determined by a doctor or psychiatrist or other treating professional.
Avatar f tn I tried similac and it didnt sit well with them. I know a lot of moms who used similac and were good with it.

Avatar m tn My thought is of novocaine. If by chance hiv infected blood got into a vial of novocaine could it be passed to the next patient if a clean needle was used? Would novocaine kill the hiv on contact? Is the vial air tight keeping the hiv alive or does the liquid dilute it?
