difference between letrozole and clomid

I have used both and after five attempts with clomid no success and the first try with letrozole I got pregnant with my son due to placenta ruption. I'm trying letrozole again with this cycle.

Has anyone done letrozole vs clomid? side affects? BFPs? also - i will be in NY when Af starts - and will hopefully make it back somewhere between CD2-5 or i will have to have CD3 labs and US done up there and rx called in there as well. so nervous and hesitant to spend so much $ - esp when we have a blessing with our 2.5 yr old. thoughts?

Since I have PCOS, it is really really hard to tell the difference between pregnancy symptoms and just everyday PCOS symptoms.

Hi! Doctors will prescribe either clomid or letrozole to assist with ovulation. There's two main differences: it doesn't have anti-estrogenic side effects like clomid; and although studies have proven letrozole is an effective fertility drug it hasn't been approved by the FDA yet for fertility use, thus isn't covered by insurance (beware it's very expensive). Letrozole was developed to treat estrogen-sensitive breast cancers.

I don't understand your question .... if you mean the difference between Femara and Letrozole .... if you mean the difference between the two names there isn't any. Letrozole is the Generic Name for Femara. Regards ....

I am 30 years old and me and my husband have been trying to conceive for 1 year now. Started with 50 mg clomid and went up to 150 mg. changed 2 doctors in the course. Had 1 IUI with Clomid done in Feb'08. Changed to 3rd doctor after that..and he switched me to Letrozole in Mar and did an IUI with it. He also put me on Metformin and Synthroid and said I have mild PCOS. Got laparoscopy done in Apr and found level 2 endometriosis.

Yeah, I had really bad hot flashes from the clomid so they put me on femara (primarily used to treat breast cancer, apparantly it either blocks estrogen or tricks your body into thinking it doesn't have enough and thus produces more or something to this effect). For the first IUI with the clomid I had two follicles emerge and then they gave me a trigger shot of Ovidrel.

Yes I was on clonus for 9 months before the letrozole and yes it had been 3 days between the last 2 sonos. I go back Friday for sono to double check. I'm sorry to hear about your ending with ectopic but hang in there. At least you know now that it's possible to conceive..

Hello, have been speaking with my dr regarding my struggle to have a baby after 3 failed ivf's, I am 41 yrs and do no ovulate, before ivf was on clomid and after 3 rounds it gave me a cyst so my dr is reluctant to put me back on this medicine.

I was on clomid for two cycles and had the same issue with thin lining..I was put on Letrozole for the next cycle..haven't been successful yet but I did not get so many side effects.. I definitely have heard from a lot of people about Letrozole not thinning the lining..

So, I took birth control for a month and a half to allow it to shrink. I then started Letrozole this cycle. I would go with what your doctor says. From my understanding, the Letrozole will help you to produce follicles, where Metformin helps to regulate insulin, which in turn helps you to ovulate. Taking the Letrozole may be good, because you need follicles.

While Letr4ozole is not approved as a fertility medication, it appears to work bettter than Clomid and has fewer side-effects. Similar to Clomid, this will result in ovuatlion 5-10 days after the last pill is taken. Letrozole is dispensed in 2.5 mg tablets . . " So it appears that when you stop your last Clomid (or femara) dose that O soon follows. If we went through the RE, we would get a trigger shot that would induce O and therefore know when to BD.

Meanwhile on Monday 3/22 , Ovacue Monitor predicted ovulation on Friday 3/26 but Ovacue testing on Tues indicated that I had already ovulated - so much for early warning. Bottom line, between the thin lining and the odd Ovacue results, my IUI was cancelled for March. I was given a prescription for Femara/ Letrozole (in place of Clomid) for the April cycle. Problem is - I have yet to get my period! Nope, absolutely zero chance of me being pregnant.

What is a good way to thicken the uterine lining. My lining my last two cycles have been 7mm then 5mm. I was on clomid both times, and my RE has switched me to Letrozole. I'm going on vacation this month so won't start a cycle till October. I heard baby aspirin will help, but not sure if this is safe.

I did 2 rounds of Clomid and this cycle I switched over to Femara (exact same thing as letrozole). I didn't have the mood swings this cycle. Also it doesn't have the side effects that Clomid does of drying up CM and thining your lining. So far I am just as pleased with it as Clomid. I'm 10DPO, so we'll be finding out soon enough if it did the trick.

However I would recommend two other options. One is to consider a drug called letrozole. Sometimes clomid, although it makes women with PCOS ovulate, causes the uterine lining (or endometrium) to be too thin to support a pregnancy. Letrozole does not have this side effect. Another set of drugs to consider are injection fertility drugs. It is pretty common for clomid to fail - only about 50% of women who ovulate on clomid actually get pregnant.

The first 3 months were given by my OB. 50mg, 100mg and 150mg. She then referred me to a RE. He tried me on one more round of clomid 150mg to no avail. I had an HSG done and all tubes were clear. I was then put on letrozole (femara) days 3-7. Went in on day 14 for an u/s and had a follicle measuring 17.5mm. Did OPK for a few days and got my +. Went in the following day and had IUI. I am now 12.5 weeks pg with TWINS! It can and it does work!!!

My husband and I have been trying for almost 1 year. I was on Clomid for 6 months and last cycle switched to Letrozole. Now my period is 4 days late and 2 pregnancy tests say NEGATIVE - this is killing me! My OB has told me I will have to take progesterone to bring on my period. Has anyone else had a late period due to Letrozole or had negative PG tests but turned out they were PG? Thank you.

nxt she put me on clomid 150 mg,myotol and said to have a follicular study n till d20 i had only one follicle 11*9mm so it failed....currently im on letrozole, humog75,i had 1 follicle 16*13mm on left and 17*16mmon right on d13..on d14 i had hcg5000 .me n my husb bedded on d13,d15,d16,d17,d18,d19.on d17 i got scan that both follicles ruptured.after ovulation i got lower abdomen pain and leg cramps attimes...i use to get leg cramps when im nearing my periods... im so anxious about baby.

i just started reading up on femara and i'm hoping that it will work for me being the clomid did't and i tried 50mg, 100mg, and 150mg of clomid and is sick of it.

I did letrozole(femara) with injectibles and timed intercourse. It worked first try and my baby is now a little over 10 months. I didn't have any side effects from it(except pregnancy lol).

Hey guys, I am a 27 year old female and have been diagnosed with PCOS and endometriosis. I have taken 4 months of clomid up to 150mg and did not produce one egg. I recently switched doctors and am getting ready to start my first cycle of femara. I am taking 2.5mg two times a day of femara/letrozole and 1500mg a day metformin. I'm not sure what your situation is or if you have had any tests, etc, but I can share my experience. I was put on Clomid back in September after trying for about 1 1/2 years with no luck. Our tests all came back good, but I wasn't getting positive OPK's, so it appeared I wasn't ovulating, or at least not good quality eggs. I tried it for 4 months and was getting positive OPK's, but my doctor felt if it hadn't worked by then, it wasn't going to.

Ok, so, doc doubled my Letrozole this cycle and for first time had more than one follicle growing so had hope this time..a little history, I have PCOS and Agressive Endometriosis. 2 failed IUI's so far with letrozole and HCG inj. Before that, Clomid for 9 months with no success. So this time again, follicles on the left stopped growing at 14mm, and the one on the right was 24mm today but was a anuovulated.. Spelling may be wrong.
