Difference between lantus and novolog

Common Questions and Answers about Difference between lantus and novolog

lantus

In general the bolus dose (Humalog) will influence the blood sugar two hours after the meal and the basal (lantus) will influence the bg in between meals. You can also fast and do basal testing. If you are willing to learn more about dosing one or both these books will help. If not, and the results are not good bg management then a visit to an endo might be in order.
Hello. I am T1 since Oct 2004, and switched to Lantus in Feb. Most of my BG numbers are very good (A1Cs 6.0 and 5.5), but since switching to Lantus, I have experienced 5 episodes of sudden and extreme drops in BG. They happen late morning, not related to breakfast, novolog dose or exercise. My BG is usually above 150 when it starts, and I must consume 150-200 grams of carbs (as juice or gel) to get it to stabilize, usually in 20-30 mins.
I use a short-acting insulin, Novolog, and a 24-period insulin, Lantis. I give Novolog with each meal, and Lantus when I go to bed. I am having troubles with my sugars in the morning. I wake up at 7am, and eat breakfast. I give my shot immediately after eating breakfast, around 7:20. I test my sugar before I eat breakfast and it is normally good. Then at 8am, I head to school. When I arrive at school around 9am, I test my sugar, which is usually pretty high (200-300).
My daughter seems to be having the same problem. She's 15 and takes 68 u of lantus at nite and supliments w/novolog pen when she's eating. They just keep increasing her dosage, but nothing seems to change. She eats pretty decently (for a teen), but she always seems to be high. I also wondered if she might be resistent to the lantus. We've tried new bottles, etc. How many units do you take per day?
This still isn't working so I changed it myself today to 20 units of novolog 3 times a day, and 30 of Lantus at bedtime. With what my endo was doing my sugars stayed over 250, but with what I'm doing my sugars are between 120 and 160. I have been searching the internet to find out on a 1500 calorie diet how many grams of carbs, protein, and fat I should have a day. I am a 39 year old female and I'm over 200 lbs over weight so I need to get this under control.
My doctor asked that I come in and see the CNP. I did as requested and she along with my consent agreed to start me on Lantus. I have tried the Januvia, Actos, Byetta, etc and none of those have helped. We agreed that if my mealtime numbers continued to be high that we would use a bolus insulin such as Novolog. I contacted her and she was going to call in the Novolog. My numbers have remained high and I am begining to worry about long term effects.
What is the difference between humalog, novalog and humilin?
Hi again, Kristin, Actually, while the pump may not be the right thing for you, there is a big difference between Lantus & a pump's basal. When we take a shot o' Lantus (wonderful insulin that it is!), we get a steady impact from that dose for about 24 hours.
Then, out of the blue, she injected herself with about 500 units of Novolog. And I only just got to her in time. She was taken to hospital and put on an IV glucose drip. And it took three days to get her blood sugar to stabilise. In retrospect, we should have listened more carefully to what Caroline was telling us. There were warning signs that we missed. We may have been able to get her to go for counselling and avoided the crisis altogether.
He just got out of the hospital with ketoacidosis and had an HA1C of 12.1. His sugars ranged from 160 - 380. We had this checked 6 months ago and everything came out "normal." Anyway, he is now on insulin, but we are having a hard time figuring out the whole diet thing. He has been put on a 75 carb/meal diet. He is 6'3" and weighed 150 lbs at the hospital, so he actually needs to put on weight. He is eating the carbs appropriately, but is still hungry.
not too many lows, we are soon transitioning to Lantus which I ve been told is better then novolog and novolin (or as I call them clear and cloudy) so we may see relief but I'm a single dad and I'm simply reachin out, Thanks,
I eat pretty healthy, I include my fruits and veggies.I use novolog and lantus. I am sorry i could not answer your question but i hope th information i gave u can help to fingure ou something to help out your daughter and I wish you and your daughter the best of luck because this issue is very frustrating and depressing as well.
Due to skipping meal, I developed adrenaline stress and by diamicron metformin But blood sugar was never high. Doctor gave me Lantus and Humalog. It was working well for a year. Then blood was becoming high, Doctor gave me LEVEMIR. If I take 10 units of humalog, after two hours sugar drops 4 points, I think this is the right dose for humalog for what I eat. I eat 60 gram Carb every meal.
I was taking 40 units of Lantus nightly, and 1000mg metformin. I am no longer taking Lantus but, I am still on metformin. Five months on Victoza I lost 32 pounds. Today I have lost a total of 48 pounds. A1C went from 8.2 to 6.7. Victoza does decrease your appetite tremendously; I have to force myself to eat at times. But, I also realized after not eating so much (stomach shrinkage) it becomes hard to overeat….which is a good thing for me. Victoza has been a Blessing for me.
