I've been on lamotrigine (lamictal) for years. I've taken many other medications for bp and not much has worked for whatever reasons. I did not find relief until I got on lamictal. It took several months to work the dose up a little at a time and some fine tuning to get the dose right. Now I'm on 300mg lamotrigine. I had some tremors and had some balance problems on the higher doses. I also take 450mg lithium carbonate and 60mg methylphenidate (this one's in the morning).

Thanks folks for your answers. I have tried Seroquel and had a bad cardiac (tachycardia) response to it, and that class of drugs in general is not good for me (have had same problems). I'm also having problems with Ativan at the moment, have been taking 1mg at night every night for about 8 months. If I don't take one, I have the most horrible violent nightmares ever. So I switched from lamictal and buspar to lithium about 2 weeks ago and I haven’t gotten any better, I’m actually worse and still get diarrhea but now it’s from the Lithium! is this mix ok? i used to take Wellbutrin and Lamictal,but now only Lamictal. my therapist feels i need something to boost my concentration and Wellbutrin didnt work.

Nebulizer treatments and oral inhalers are not helping, however last week she was admitted to the hospital for a video EEG and was taken off of lamictal during that time. Remarkably the cough stopped. I tried asking the doctors about this but they were more concrened with the seizures and just reminded me to watch out for Steven Johnson Syndrome. I am very concerned because she is back on the medicine and the coughing is back.

Soma is not an opiate. It is a sedative, used for muscle relaxation.

Lamotrigine and some other anti-convulsant medications are approved for maintenance treatment in bipolar I disorder, because they have something to do with altering the excitability threshold of certain neurons. We're not yet entirely sure how that helps to control mood instability in bipolar disorder, but they are proven to be very effective in this regard. The good thing about lamotrigine in particular is that it can also have an anti-depressant on top of the mood stabilization!

Lamotrigine (Lamictal) seems to be missing from your list. It is weight-neutral, but of course it, too, has a list of possible side effects. In my case, I really liked it as a mood stabilizer, but over time it caused pronounced hand tremors. The big one to watch out for is the risk of a severe and potentially dangerous rash. I have post traumatic epilepsy. I recently have been put on Lamotrigine (lamictal) which has been the best anti convulsant for me so far. It is actually a bi polar medication which happens to be a very strong seizure med.. so this may be something that would benefit your daughter.. just in case u weren't aware of the med. I'm in the Uk and currently taking Quetiapine, Depakote and Lamotrigine. The Quetiapine for me was prescribed for rage and agitation, I don't feel any anti depressant properties from it, but it has saved my life. Lamotrigine was prescribed 7 weeks ago and I feel a lot better, I am doing things that I didn't think I'd ever feel I could do again. Nobody has ever specified what type of Bp I have, I have symptoms from across the spectrum, I have mixed episodes.

Hi, I recently started Lamictal too and experienced the same thing. Just very light bleeding but then it stopped after about 4 days. My doctor said it may have been break through bleedign. I have the implanon and havn't had a period in months so it through me for a loop too. But i think it is okay now.

ve just found out I am pregnant and I have been taking Abilify (Aripirazole) and Lamictal (Lamotrigine) for the last year, against bipolar disorder, my doctor recommended to reduce it slowly and then stop it.
