humalog

209227 tn?1242346745 Is there a difference between Humalog and Novolog insulins? I was told there are exactly the same. But is this true?
Avatar m tn Hi! I'm in a 20ui HUMALOG after meals regiment, however, in between meals and during the night my blood sugar levels drop below 70. Should I stop taking the HUMALOG?
Avatar n tn The dosage criteria for Humalog are about the same (He takes one unit of Humalog for each 10 carbohydrate grams in the morning and one unit of Humalog for each 12 carbohydrate grams at dinner). The only other difference is that he takes NPH at the same time as Humalog in the am and does not take NPH at the dinner meal. The other difference I have noted is that readings 70 and below occur more often at the noon reading than at any other time.
Avatar n tn You didn't mention where you were putting the sites. Novolog and Humalog are what we call *designer insulins* - not quite the same as Regular Insulin, but derived from it. Which is obvious since they act within 15 minutes or less. The main difference I've found between the two is in the preservative used .... some people have an allergic reaction to to the Humalog preservative and Novolog works better (and vice versa).
Avatar n tn There is a big difference in the action of humalog 50/50 compared to regular. You should really only change your medication with the supervision and guidance of your doctor. Please do discuss this with your doctor.
Avatar n tn I would most definitely speak to your endocrinologist after doing some research and I am certain that between the two of you can come up with a regime that works well for you. Best of luck!
Avatar f tn My partner is diabetic and he is on novorapid and tresiba we was wondering are you able to take them one after another?
Avatar n tn I am a 28 year old female diabetic who was diagnosed when I was 9. I used to be on a regimen where I used both Regular, NPH, and Humalog to balance my blood sugars but it required a lot of effort and a lot of test strips which are so expensive, even with insurance! In January 2005, my endocrinologist started me on Lantus to try to find some balance with my sugars. My a1c readings have been under 6.
Avatar n tn I was not getting into single figures on the dose pescribed and upping it (now by 2 units) has not helped. Novorapid sort of keeps it under control at meals but my base rate is simply not adequate. When I eat I eat incredibly healthily, I exercise daily, and I am not drinking alcohol, but at present I find I am hardly eating at all in the day to try and keep things under control. I am headachy and worried. My specialist can't see me until next month, can you advise what might be goinmg on?
Avatar n tn s it gonna do to my blood sugars if I have this stuff being pumped in me every 3 min at the same basal and bolus rates as Humalog? I just had to start it today. I can't switch back to taking shots because I'm brittle.
Avatar f tn t know why, but she said that Lantus works better if you give the shots on your tummy and buttox and novolog/humalog (fast acting) works better if given in your legs... anyway, this is a lot of information and if you can, please have him see a Diabetes Educator... al least once! It will help a lot because she will provide you with charts and help you to do the math with knowledge of what you are doing, knowing how your body operates! I hope it helps!
Avatar n tn She also takes Humalog as her short acting and she takes it before meals and even between if needed. Ask your doctor about this and see what he or she says but we have seen a change in her weight as well.
Avatar n tn She is on 4 shots a day, 2 with breakfast which is Insulatard ( 9 units ) and 3 and half units of Novorapid. She gets 2 units of Novorapid with evening meal and 2 units of Insulatard with bedtime snack. We are finding it very difficult to bring her sugars down within her target range.
Avatar m tn Is it common for someone with type 2 diabetes to be on Humalog 3X daily and Lantus 1X daily?
Avatar f tn Yes there is a relation between insulin dose and carbs, the relation is between fast acting insulin and carbs NOT Levemir and carbs. eating carbs will raise BG in a short time IE 3 or 4 hours. and will stay high untill your body makes enough insulin or you inject FAST insulin. Taking levemir to counter eating will result in dangerously low BG (Hypoglycemia)! Insulin use is difficult to explain, you need to talk to an MD that knows how to administer Basal/Bolus insulin therapy.
Avatar n tn I have been off the Lantus now since the beginning of April and what a difference. The cramps are gone and other than normal aches and pains, I am not hurting from head to toe. Have not been to see the dr. yet because I have to go in with proof that it made a difference. I think I am ready now. Don't know what it is about these 24 hour insulins, but my body just does not like them.
Avatar n tn I have recently been switched to Lantus & Humalog and I have some questions. I take it in the morning. If I awake with an abnormal blood sugar (too high) I assume I would take a small dose of fast acting. Would I also take a small dose of fast acting if my blood sugar is normal, as to cover my breakfast? I know to count the carbs before the lunch meal and the dinner meal, but didn't ask about the breakfast meal.
Avatar n tn I know our readings are different in canada , 5 to 7 is normal.I have had sugars as high as 32 and used 10 units of humalog , half an hour later I am 34 , I don't understand this ? What is the ratio of humalog to carbs ? I had the flu and I know it can really mess up your sugars , but this was a month ago .Also , I generally feel better when my sugars are around 13 , anything below that and I feel the efects of hyperglycemea , I know that does,t make sense , but it is how I feel.
197575 tn?1215532624 Is there a difference between a complex nodule and a complex cystic nodule? I know complex means both solid and cystic. My friend's ultrasound call it a complex cystic nodule. Thanks.
Avatar n tn I give myself about 21 units of insulin per day--13 units of Lantus and a sliding scale of Humalog between 6-10 units--depending on how many carbohydrates I have eaten--So, it takes me about 2-3 months to use a bottle of Humalog and the Lantus would take longer, but I must open a new bottle every month for consistency issues. Does that help?
Avatar m tn However I managed an specialist by visiting emergency. Due to high sugar, She gave me Humalog and Lantus insulin. Everything came under control, but after one year pressure increased to 170/90 at night. Then I had to stop Lantus. I have only Humalog to stop spike. But still when I wake up from bed pressure is 170/90/65. I take 300 gm Avapro. After ½ it becomes Ok. But sugar has gone high again.
Avatar n tn I currently take humalog before meals and such.. The peak time is around 2 hours with a duration of like 6. So anyway I was wondering, When I go out with my friends and eat ice cream or something like, right now the sugar peaks way before my humalog, but what if I injected my humalog into muscle tissue, so it was absorbed rapidly. I think this would better match the peak of the sugar. Lets say im eating on an empty stomach so it is absorbed very fast.
Avatar n tn My sister also has type 1 and takes lantus at bedtime and then takes humalog for correction AND to cover food with carbs, so in her case, if her BG is not High (if it IS under a particular number that she and her doc have discussed), then she does not need a correction shot AND if she was not going to eat anything containing carbs at that time, she would not need humalog to cover food, HOWEVER, she would still take her lantus shot at bedtime.
Avatar n tn for the pasy 4 years i have been on humalog pens and lantus. Recently i was thinking about exubera but thought with smoking that might not be such a good Idea.. Am I right? or would it not make a difference?
