Difference between femara and clomid

Common Questions and Answers about Difference between femara and clomid

femara

A girl at work says to me, I got preggers with my first cycle of Femara. Can anyone tell me the difference between it and Clomid? I hope and pray that we all get our little bundles........just looking for some info to occupy my mind!
so I was on Femara this month. My prev cycle on Clomid and IUI was a bummer with 2 big cysts but Femara gave me three follies. One was 17 and the other two 14 and 15 on CD12. We had got preg last Sept on our own with 1% morph. We lost that one.. don't know y.. but our Dr told us that there's no proof on how much the morph would be responsible for it. How many IUI cycles have u been on?
Especially since your tubes are open (which I found out today through a HSG that mine are open too) you'll just need the medicine to help you ovulate and release the egg. I do have a question for you though. What is difference between Femara and Clomid? After having my progesterone checked on cycle day 21 she mentioned to me that I may need that because the levels were low. I wondered if Femara was a different drug that gave similar results. Good luck to you!
I am going to the RE on the 14th to see about getting on some meds that might help me out to get pg while I'm saving up for another IUI. What's the difference between Femara and Clomid? Do they do the same thing? I took Clomid for 3 months a while back but I don't think I BD at the right time for it to even work. I didn't like it all that much either. Do you think I should ask the RE about Femara instead and does it cost about the same?
Femara works on a different hormone then Clomid and is not suppose to have any of those side effects. I did 4 cycles of Clomid on the lowest dosage and 1 of Femara on the lowest dosage. The Clomid did dry up what little CM I did have and made me a little moody. I didn't notice any of that with the Femara.
It is off label use for fertility but a paper came out in November 2006 which compared 911 births using either letrozole or clomid and they saw no difference in congential defects between the two (actual data showed femara had fewer defects and higher pregnancy rates but it was not statistically significant). I know a lady who went through two IVF's before they realized the clomid had thinned her lining and she had no pregnancies so that makes me want to stay away from it.
femara and tamoxifen are the same thing. my insurance also does not cover fertility stuff but it does cover femara like wanting said.
Hi everyone, Im on CD4, started Menopur for CD3 to CD7 and will be doing an IUI. I've had 3 failed IUI with clomid and repronex. Hopefully this next step will work! I will be praying for all of us!
My temps seem pretty flat and there is not a lot of difference between pre o and what could be post o temps. i am seeing my obgyn next week and hope to get some answers. thanks!
) Has anyone taken clomid, it not worked, then gone to femara and it DID? 3:) What is the difference between Femara and Clomid. I heard the first is a cancer drug but why is it used in a fertility setting? Is it for women with pre-diabetes or what? thank you all so much for answering anything you can. i am on round 7 of clomid and i am just over it. i have seen the stats on the whole success after 3 cycles and i am way past that. any info would be great!
I've been diagnosed with PCOS recently and will start Metformin and Clomid. I've heard the chances of having a healthy pregnancy with these meds are 40% for PCOS women which isn't too bad but wish it was more like 80% : ) Just wanted to hear any success stories to help cheer me up.
I'm also on my 2nd cycle with Letrozole (also known by the brand name Femara). Clomid didn't work for me, but I've heard and read a lot of good things about the Femara, so here's hoping it's the answer for us! If you are interested, there is a separate post out there called "Femara Info" where there is a link to a really good resource about the drug related to infertility. A bunch of us on Femara have been sharing some of our stories. Good luck to you!!
I am on 50mg of Clomid and this month was my first cycle. I detected my LH surge on 6/12 and had lot's of cramping on 6/14 and 6/15, plus ewcm. I feel that I did ovulate, but I do not feel like I am preggo this month. The cramping actually lasted a week, but was not as intense during the end of last week. I have read that Clomid can make you O a little later in your cycle, so it could be the cramping was actually Oing. Which is still exciting!!! I really hope you are preggo! :) Keep us posted!
We haven't tried any drug to this point and I honestly think that is the next step. What is the difference between something like clomid and something like gonal f (use, cost, etc.)? I have an appointment on the 9th so any help would be great. I think sometimes he is so busy he hurries past me and if I am not prepared with questions then we do my check up and then he moves on. I want to make my January IUI the one that works, I can't do this much longer.
I first started 50mg Clomid spring 2008 and got a BFP 2nd or 3rd round of the 50mg. I didn't have any side effects. I m/c a little while later. The DH and I took some time off. I'm on CD 10 of my first 50mg Clomid cycle since 2008. (Everytime I take it CD 3-7). Again no side effects. I did notice that my BBT is higher this cycle than last (non-clomid cycle). I'm hoping to get my OPK today, too. Oh and as a side note, we have been ttc since end of 2006 and just took a break during 2009.
I also had an ultrasound during one of those cycles and saw that I was definitely producing follicles. We didn't get pregnant, so now we are onto Femara and I'm still getting the positive tests and I just had another ultrasound done to confirm ovulation. So basically, in my case, no one was really sure the cause, but the medication has definitely made a difference and ensured that I am ovulating. In your case, it could be that your body is taking some time adjusting.
I know time is running out , i also take clomid every few months to help me ovulate and it does work as had day 21 test and showed i ovulated on that particular month. Its just getting a good egg i suppose, my best wishes to all of you, melissa in the u.k.
5 and stayed there around 3 while on DHEA. There is a direct correlation between these and increasing your Testosterone level via DHEA. 11. ALCOHOL INTERFERES WITH DHEA-S – DON”T DRINK AND DO DHEA. 12. ESTROGEN PATCH TO DOWNREGULATE OVARIES BEFORE STIMMING. I ovulated through the pill 2 months straight while on DHEA and the doc wouldn’t believe it until he saw it. Another friend had the same experience. Finally my doc got advice from GLeicher who did the study.
It will definitely something i will ask my RE tomorrow at my appointment. The difference between the two is that menopur has both FSH and LH, while bravelle is FSH only. The LH is supposed to help mature the eggs while the FSH makes more eggs. Did you doctor say why he wants to switch you? I would like to know also. I totally feel your pain, yesterday I was an emotional wreck. It was really hard to get out of that funk.
Make sure your doctor is monitoring (with ultrasound) each cycle on clomid, it can cause cysts to develop rapidly In women with PCOS. I took 5 rounds of clomid up to 150mg and never ovulated. I am on follistim injections now and have ovulated each cycle. You should ask your doctor about changing you to femara it's a pill like clomid with less side effects and it singles out an egg to mature unlike the clomid that tries to mature everything (hints cysts).
I just finished my first month on Clomid and Metformin. The first two days I took Clomid I felt dizzy, lightheaded and nauseous. After that I never felt anything. I am interested to see what this month brings!
) So far: Clomid 50mg--didnt work Femara 2.5mg 2x's a day (cd3-7) 1st 2 cycles made nice follies, last 2 NOTHING Novarel 10,000unit trigger shot---didnt O Follistim shots---started with 150 units (2 shots) for 7 days, and 225 units (3 shots) for 4 days--Eggies were too small to even talk about!! NEXT step is doing REPRONEX, anyone here tried it?? Have great weekend ladies!! Tina Merr~~~That is WAY cool!!! A new mom AND a grandmother at the same time!! Wow! Double blessed!!
So we started trying in Sept. I didn't o that month. Oct. and Nov.. I was on Clomid and nothing. Dec. no clomid but we tried and nothing. This month we got preg. the only thing I did was use OPK's, temp, and use Preseed. I can honestly say that I knew it would happen but I just kept feeling like, "Why isn't it happening?" I've been on this website since July and it really has helped...it's nice to have people to talk to that are going through the same thing. I'm 30...almost 31.
Hey there, We're not doing IUI because my RE said there would only be a 3% difference between it and BDing, so we opted to BD and save the $350. I bought 2 brands of OPKs, Answer and some digis. Hopefully one will work for me. They usually don't. I typically produce one follie on my own and two with Clomid. What do you mean "trying twice in one month?" I don't quite understand.
All ranging between 14 and 15.5....which I was told was a good size. As I have mentioned before, my right ovary is difficult to find....and I have been having pain on my right side every time I climax....so I asked my doc today what could be causing it. He told me that it might be caused by some scar tissue. I asked him what causes scar tissue...and he said prior operations....or maybe some endometriosis.
Do you know how many follies you were getting on the Clomid and Femara? I don't remember them monitoring you, but if the pain was worse maybe it was a lot of eggs bursting out.
Ok here is my situation. I have PCOS and have done 2 cycles of clomid, and 2 of femara, and the bloodwork showed I did not ovulate any of these times. However, I was not being monitored by ultrasound, so there was no way to know if I was growing follicles and just not releasing eggs from them.
Okay, so here's my question for all of my seriously loyal and AMAZING AGP sisters... The RE's initial plan was to do 3 cycles of IUI. The first (Clomid) and second (Follistim) failed and the third would be this new cycle. BUT, i have unexplained infertility (whatever that means) and he's not even sure my tubes actually work. I do, however, produce lots of handsome follies every month on these drugs (8 this month).
