I am a 28 year old female diabetic who was diagnosed when I was 9. I used to be on a regimen where I used both Regular, NPH, and Humalog to balance my blood sugars but it required a lot of effort and a lot of test strips which are so expensive, even with insurance! In January 2005, my endocrinologist started me on Lantus to try to find some balance with my sugars. My a1c readings have been under 6.
Thank you for your reply, I'm aware of Symlin and Byetta, but neither My Dr. and what information I can gather on the web works as well as Victoza. I understand Byetta is coming out with a medication that lasts much longer but it uses a larger needle and is truly an injection. Don't understand why these drug companies in the US price their product out of reach of most....

obviously you are having a problem tolerating byetta, and given that this is now 3 months and you have lost so much weight, I would think it may be rational to ask your doctor if you can stop this medication and try something different?
Why did your dr. not decide to start you on Metformin?
Have you been monitoring your blood sugars (while on byetta)? What is your fasting and post-eating blood sugars. What was your Hba1c when you started this med?
My doctor just gave me information and samples of Symlin. This new drug was recently introduced to mimic the role that amylin would normally play in slowing down the rate that sugars leave the stomach. Generally, people who do not produce enough insulin (or any insulin) also do not produce enough amylin.
Unfortunately, it is another injected drug, at meals similar to humalog.
I started taking Symlin a few months ago and at first it was great and worked very well. I was able to reduce my boluses by half. However, over the past two weeks, it has become ineffective and I am already at the max dosage. At this point, I stopped taking it because I found myself super high 2-3 hours after my meal and feeling the usual effects of being high. Has this happened to anyone else and what did you do about it?

I am a volunteer here and today is my day. I am sorry to say that I do not have any first hand knowledge on this medication.
My son (diagnosed with type 1 at age 3) who is 10 is now on the pump and we are very pleased.
I do understand that you are looking for feedback from anyone who has been in symlin or has more knowledge about it. I apologize that I cannot be of more assistance.
I would really like some help with this. Byetta has been wonderful so far, and I've lost 30 lbs, yay! But now I've developed insomnia - terrible, only 3 hours of sleep a night insomnia, which has never bothered me before. If I skip my second Byetta shot for the day, I can usually get a full night's sleep. So that's certainly a clue that I may not be able to take the full two doses of Byetta a day.
I used Byetta for a long time and I am not an expert or medical person. You are best to get the information from your doctor. Before I started using Byetta, I had to take classes from a nurse on how I had to inject Byetta into my stomach. It was prescribed by my Doctor. Byetta has side effects reported by some people but I had no problems with it other than the expense. It does give you a feeling of fullness and it has a nickname (Spit).

I'm 34 years old and am about to begin my first cycle with the ovulation drug clomid. I'm a type 2 diabetic, have PCOS, and I have PSVT. I take Byetta, metformin, and metoprolol. I have been working with my Dr. for about 18 months to loose weight (I've lost over 60 lbs), get my blood sugar under control (my last 2 AICs were normal), and get medically ready to have a child. Last week he told us he feels comfortable with my heath for my husband and I to try to get pregnant.
I see that this is under juvenile diabetes, which I know even less about. But, Byetta is remarkable for a lot of folks, and there are two newer, similar, products available also.
2 for several years but I found that it was exhausting riding the highs and lows and rotating between sugar and insulin to try to "fix" my levels. I found that I would become high after dinner so I would take more Humalog, however, this would make me crave sugar and sweets, it would drop my blood sugar levels, and it seemed like I was eating more just to make sure that I was safe...then I would spike from the sugar and have to start all over again with more insulin.
I had to change to Byetta in about 2 weeks (finished Victoza sample and insurance would only pay for Byetta). I developed nausea at the smaller dose of Victoza, and never used the larger dose. The nausea was unchanged with the change of meds.....and I have lost a LOT of weight (29 pounds). But the nausea started within a day or two of starting it. At least for me.

I have been sick with a cold/flu for three weeks. Two days ago, I developed diarrhea. It seemed to occur immediately after eating. Today, the diarrhea was bright yellow and I passed something the size of a small grape (also yellow in color). I'm currently on synthroid (for hypothyroidism), effexor (for depression), and metformin & byetta (for insulin resistence). I've been on the Byetta for nearly a month, but have not suffered any side effects to date.
t seem to be experiencing the usual side effects (nausea, headache) others do or that I did when I was on Byetta (I was told Victoza is very similar to Byetta) a few years ago. However ... and this happened to me on a prior med (I forget which one) about 6 months ago, but I started feeling pretty severe anxiety: my face is flushed, my heart is racing, I have a knot in my stomach, and I started getting paranoid (like thinking a friend was going to betray me) for no reason whatsoever.
Also if I do not get up and eat with in 5-10minutes in the morning I get very tired. One last thing is that I usually get no warning sign of being hungry. I feel full and fine and the next minute I feel like if I do not eat I am going to pass out. I get real shaky and hot and it gets hard for me to see straight. Any comments would help.

what is the difference between addiction and dependence? I was reading another post and someone mentioned that he/she thought someone was dependent not addicted.. I'm just curious. Thanks in advance for any responses.
One medication may have been developed first and others later that are somewhat similar chemically and in the same chemical family but they may be completely different medications. I take Methocarb and that is prescribed for me to control dystonic spasms. It is an anti spasmodic. Meprobamate is an anti anxiety medication.
Any of these medications can be prescribed for other purposes as determined by a doctor or psychiatrist or other treating professional.
I tried similac and it didnt sit well with them. I know a lot of moms who used similac and were good with it.
