Avatar n tn What is the difference between all the benzodiazepines? I mean, why does a doctor prescribe Xanax to one person, Ativan to another, Klonopin to someone else? I know they're all "anxiolytic" (the ones I mentioned) but what makes one better than another? The reason I'm asking is because I take Ativan occasionally but it really knocks me for a loop (which isn't always a bad thing).
Avatar f tn whats the difference between xanax and ativan? Drs. refuse to give me xanax because they say its addicting. But the ativan only helps if i take it b4 ed as prescribed. I still have panic attacks during the day. The xanax was most helpful. But then i dnt want to get addicted to them. my panic attacks are bad. i feel like my head is going to erupt, explode. i feel like i'm going to get n a car wreck. i always feel like im goin ti die n the most horrible way.
Avatar f tn Right now I take .5 mg klonopin 2x/day and and .5 mg (or 1 mg) ativan as needed, which is once every 1-2 weeks. Now, I have a prescription for effexor (that I am not interested in taking, no SSRI's have worked for me, including effexor in the past) and my doctor said that during the first few weeks of taking the effexor I might need to take more ativan than normal (possibly every day) to stave off the anxiety that comes from starting effexor.
467977 tn?1262714747 t take Klonopin, I took Ativan. I only used the Ativan for those breakthrough panic attacks. I started to notice they were becoming few and far between. Pretty soon the panic attacks were gone and I just needed the 25mg of Paxil CR. Are you nervous all the time?
Avatar n tn so where u on 4mg a day of ativan and now u swtiched to clonazepam? if so i think the taper/addition of klonopin/lclonazepam has to be done miticulously. ask RCA/Ryan about this. he as schedules for things like this and for tapering successfully. i know valium is used alot to get people off of clonazepam along with a taper schedule. i'm pretty sure the klonopin isn't causing the shakiness and sweating. it's either withdrawls from the ativan or your underlying anxiety returning.
1226489 tn?1267201838 I was on Ativan and given Klonopin to get off the ativan. It didnt work and I ended up taking both of them for about 3 years. I finally was able to get off the ativan. We opted for that one as it is much shorter lasting. I am still on Klonopin and likely will be for a very long time. I had issues with Wellbutrin but everyone is different. Are you doing well enough that you feel you are good to come off the Benzos? I would like to be off them but I know that I am not at that point at all.
Avatar f tn 0 mg increments every three days (again, at the same time you are slowly decreasing the Klonopin dose) until you are done with the Klonopin and back on the Ativan at your prior dose. To try to give you an example....If you are starting at 2 mg Klonopin, the first day, decrease your (daily) dose to 1.5 or 1.75 mg (1.75 being a smaller drop in dose) while starting 0.5 or 1.0 mg of Ativan. Then, three days later, decrease the Klonopin to 1.0-1.5 mg while increasing the Ativan to 1.0-1.
Avatar f tn I had to take the xanax every couple of hours to stay calm, the clonopin knocked me out cold..and the ativan 1mg 3x day it doesnt sound like you are double dosing i get dizzy when the ativan wears off but when i take another i feel better. The difference is supposed to be short acting - intermediate acting and long acting..but i find more differences in the benzos than that..they all have semi the same effect though. hope it helps.
Avatar f tn And what is the difference between the sleeping aid that is in Ambien and klonopin? Is Ambien more relative to what is in, say, Tylenol PM OTC? I am trying to find the least harmful sleeping aid. I take ativan now - 1 mg. to sleep. Is Ambien safer? My history is similar ot yours but I am on Norco - continually aiming to cut back and feel like I have been through w/d of one form or another 20 times in the last 90 days.
Avatar f tn I have have an anxiety disorder since high school, I am now 39 I still have it badly. I take meds daily for it but I alway take a week break once a month to make sure I'm not addicted, I've tried them all for anxiety but the ones that work immediatly unfortunatly are benzos and are all addicting.
Avatar n tn Your doctor should give you a plan for tapering off the ativan and on to the klonopin. If he does not, ask for one.
Avatar f tn ve been on pristiq and ativan for a Month now for anxiety and panic attacks. Neither seem to help but I am giving it another month just because I have been in very stressful situations lately that just might be too overwhelming for the medication to help.
Avatar m tn Is it ok to go from Ativan to Valium ? I take 0.5mg each day and I am feeling inter dose anxiety between doses and I don't want to take more Ativan, can I switch to the Longer Acting Valium and have it work for me ? Been taking this a few years my Doctors says I need to be on a benzo for life but I hope that's not true. What dose of Valium would I take to cover me ? please reply, I am new here thank you very much.
Avatar n tn m totally no expert but I was put on buspar and diazapam (As needed) and thats worked for me. I was offered Ativan first but that one has a bit of stigma connected (Unrelated weirdness) My doc said the only difference between the two was Diazapan is slightly more addictive. I still use the valium as needed but weeks can go by now. Probably the buspar is working...
2036568 tn?1330482758 i have a close friend who was predcribed ativan for migranes and she became pregnant an the only thing she ever took and it was a few days a week was the ativan an her daughter was born healthy but was addicted an had to stay in hospital 2 months to detox. im not saying this will happpen jus be sure to talk it over with doc.
Avatar f tn what is the diffrence between ativan and klonopin?
Avatar f tn i would be afraid of still being addicted to benzos.. they are the same strength just different in onset and klonopin and xanax are the most addictive of the benzos with ativan running a close second....
433485 tn?1321813390 Efeexor XR is an extended release med. Where as regular Effexor is not. It all gets in to your system right away. The XR does not. I hope that makes sense. I think Your Dr needs to know how you're feeling too. I wonder if you can cut back on the Klonopin and increase the Ativan? It really sounds like you need more help with your anxiety right now.
Avatar m tn For my first pregnancy I made it to about 3.5 months before I started taking medication. I took Klonopin as sparingly as I could and I took Prozac. I don't remember taking the klonopin for very long and certainly not the entire rest of the pregnancy. The prozac was a low dose....I want to say 10 or 20 mg but honestly it was so long ago I can't remember. I tried very hard not to take the klonopin though.
Avatar m tn there could be issues but i like it for real does me good when im freaking out but i only have 15 pills and have taken 3 and tried to cut some in half and destroyed 2 so im down to 10 need a script!
Avatar m tn 5 MG of Ativan Is just going to cause you to withdraw Into panic attacks over and over and over. Ativan Also causes you to get mentally and physically addicted much like It's your emergency pill. Try Klonopin, If you're getting Ativan you should have no problem getitng and using this medicine as they are In the same class (Benzodiazipine) and much less In strength and addiction.
Avatar m tn Clonazepam (Klonipin) and diazepam (Valium) are longer acting benzos than the alp. and loraz. (i.e. Xanax and Ativan). Doctors will usually prescribe the longer acting ones for longer periods of time while the others are usually prescribed on an as needed, short term basis. In my opinion, all are pretty good at what they are designed to do. ADs like SSRIs are the most commonly prescribed...examples are Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Lexapro, Celexa, etc....
433485 tn?1321813390 ativan and Klonopin. Thanks. I am seeing my pdoc on Nov. 11th and need to talk (again, so frustrating) about my meds. Prior to last week, I was feeling pretty good. I am also in pain management ( arthritis in back) and prescribed 10 mg. oxycodone ( 1 in am and 1 in pm). Please help as I need to know....thanks.
Avatar f tn but i have now gotten prescribed to ativan 1mg a day as needed and has helped me so much within the last year. it really has changed my life because i no longer have to worry about everyday activities and whether or not my heart is going to prevent me from being able to do the things everyone else are able to do. even though the episodes still occur, they are a lot less frequent and the ativan helps me get through it without feeling like i am going to pass out.
Avatar n tn Can anyone tell me what the difference between Xanax and Niravam, my doc put me on Niravam telling me that it stays in my system longer and is no addictive. Everything I have seen states they are exactly the same other than brand name. I know Xanax is cheaper so if they are the same I want to go with it. I am trying to figure out if it is worth keep bringing up. Please help.
Avatar n tn I think Klonopin is similar to Ativan, which I was on for about 4 years before and I had a hard time getting off of that... I had to taper off very slowly and by reducing the dosage by 1/4 each step. I would get very agitated and extremely nervous. However, compared to getting off of hydro's, the Ativan was not nearly as bad. Anyway, I'm telling you all that just because maybe Klonopin withdrawal is similar to Ativan withdrawal.
Avatar n tn i am pregnant and on klonopin and i am totally freaking out about me hurting my baby i have more than 1/2 d my dose i use to take 0.
