Avatar n tn So I wouldnt take any vitamins with Vitamin A in it, but you can still eat oranges and have orange juice just remember accutane already has a lot of vitamin a in it. You are fine to still take it, thats what your doctor prescribed so I'm sure they thought that was best.

Avatar n tn She recently (2 weeks ago) started taking a low dose of accutane every other day and noticed her face and scalp began to itch and flake. She is now concerned about her hair thinning and even being lost, claiming that it has at least begun to thin. My question: Is there a strong correlation between hair thinning/loss with accutane patients? Should she be concerned about permanent hair loss? If her hair is thinning, is this permanent as well or temporary?
Avatar f tn Is anyone aware of a linkage between isotretonoin (Accutane), used for treating cystic acne, and Sjogren's, which is linked to the epithelial cells? At 21, when Accutane first appeared, doses were higher than current (I remember my skin bleeding when scratching lightly with a fingernail). I am now 51, and have had Reynaud's for a number of years, and was just diagnosed with Sjogren's. Just curious if anyone has seen this?
Avatar m tn Study says Accutane by-products may cause immune response and celiac symptoms Findings that were recently published in the scientific journal Nature resulting from a study by University of Chicago’s Digestive Disease Research Core Center researchers indicated that Accutane byproducts, Vitamin A and retinoic acid, may cause inflammation in people with high levels of interleukin-15.
Avatar n tn I've a terrible breakout after having methylprednisolone IV treatment for MS. I'm currently on gabapentin, methylcobal and a vitamin B pill. I'm considering taking accutane for treatment of the acne proble s but would like to know if there are any negative effects between the medications.
Avatar m tn For the melasma, treatment options include treatment with vitamin C and hydrocortisone, peel with carbon dioxide snow and alexandrite and ND-Yag Q-Switched laser treatment preceded by a hydroquinone-based application. But get it done after the course of Accutane. Please discuss these options with your dermatologist. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar n tn Some people will experience mild side effects, while others will experience devastating side effects. Isotretinoin (Accutane) is a retinoid which is a derivative of Vitamin A. Taking a full course of Isotretinoin is basically like taking an overdose of Vitamin A. An overdose of vitamin A, or vitamin A poisoning, is also known as Hypervitaminosis A. Hypervitaminosis A can also be experienced from eating the liver of certain animals, for example the polar bear.
Avatar f tn Accutane results in long-term remission rather than a permanent cure and a second or third course may be indicated for about 20% of patients. Please read my advice on the Acne Forum, and read my Roaccutane journal.
203342 tn?1328737207 Does anyone know what the difference is between a Nutritionist and a Dietitian is? I tried to get my insurance to refer me to dietitian but they won't cover it. Then a friend recommended I talk to a Nutritionist. I've been having gastro problems the last couple of years. They're not sure if I have Crohn's or what. I do have the inflammation and diarrhea. And have had ulcers in the past. I can't seem to eat ANYTHING anymore. Everything upsets my stomach, even healthy foods.
1045086 tn?1332126422 I saw Dr. Jill today. She ordered a CMP, Mg and vitamin D level. I'm not sure she thinks the lytes are off. We'll know in the morning. She did ask me if I'm familiar with the MS hug. My last statement above ("have had increased weakness lately and some fleeting feelings of fullness in the chest with fluctuating BP and heart rate") earned me a ticket to the stress test lab for Thursday.
1155893 tn?1263018015 Hey, My dermo gave me Retin A cream to go along with my accutane. She said it would help clear up some of the dark spots I had on my skin from the acne. Will this help? What is this stuff usually used for ?
Avatar n tn s so, they may suggest a vitamin K therapy to help increase your levels. I sure hope all goes well for you and your baby.
Avatar m tn I can say, nothing has helped the way accutane has. I got a hair cut and made the mistake of getting my hair texturized. My cousin made a comment about my hair so, now I am concerned about it thinning. Upon further inspection, it feels thinner near the crown but, she did texturize my hair. Also, I was laying on it in a certain spot. I took a video with my phone for further inspection finding nothing but I will keep a close eye on it. Is rogain out of the question while on accutane?
Avatar n tn Dear Dr Rockoff, I'm looking for some advice/reassurance. I have been off accutane for a little over a year, during which time I have had at most one zit at any one time which would disappear relatively quickly. In the last few days, however, I have had two zits appear simultaneously, and I'm slightly worried. I've been using benzoyl peroxide religiously for the past several months, so now I'm questioning whether the positive effect of the accutane may be over.
Avatar n tn Drug interaction of Claravis or Accutane includes tetracyclines , vitamin A-type drugs, vitamin A, and drugs that cause bone loss such as anti-seizure drugs such as phenytoin and corticosteroids. If you experience severe headaches and other symptoms like mood changes, muscle /joint pain or painful swallowing or peeling skin, it is best that you inform your doctor for proper management. Also when prescription medicine for migraine is not providing relief. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn The 10000 IU limit is for preformed Vitamin A. (Personally, my prenatal had 4000 IU of Vitamin A in it, and my midwife said that was fine) I would call your doctor if you're still unsure and speak to them about it.
Avatar n tn I lost about 60% of my hair. It stopped for a few months and started again for a few months to a lesser degree though. And now, 3.5 years later, it stills falls out more frequently than it should. It doesn't come out in handfulls everyday, but it does fall out more than any normal person would shed hair. Thankfully I had a very thick head of hair so it is not noticeable to people that didn't know me before. But it is noticable to me, and it hasn't begun to grow back yet.
Avatar m tn Anyway, the maintenance dose works, but after a year and a half of taking Accutane I was becoming less tolerant of the side effects of even a maintenance dose (headaches, excessive dryness, etc.). Well, I have managed to combat the headaches and excessive dryness by increasing my Vitamin E intake from 400-800 I.U. per day to 2,000 I.U. of Vitamin E daily.
Avatar n tn It is sometimes used as a chemotherapy medication for prevention and treatment of certain skin cancers. It is a retinoid, meaning it derives from vitamin A and is found in small quantities naturally in the body. Isotretinoin is a teratogen and is highly likely to cause birth defects if taken during pregnancy. A few of the more common birth defects that this drug can cause are hearing and visual impairment, missing earlobes, facial dysmorphism, and mental retardation.
647397 tn?1307056615 What's the difference between Vitamin A and Beta Carotene? and how long the beta carotene can be taken in a pill form?
Avatar n tn I have read about taking Vitamin B5...I am wondering if you know anything about this and if it is safe? And if not, do you have any recommendations for somthing that may work. I have tried cutting out dairy and I would try cutting out caffeine but I am a coffee drinker so its rough. Any other thoughts or recommendations are appreciated.
197575 tn?1215532624 Is there a difference between a complex nodule and a complex cystic nodule? I know complex means both solid and cystic. My friend's ultrasound call it a complex cystic nodule. Thanks.
Avatar m tn ve just been recently prescribed by my dermatologist Isotretinoin (accutane) and am on my 4th day of treatment. After doing extensive research on how accutane affects growth, it really concerns me as I'm currently only 16 years and 8 months old and hence am still in the growing stage of my life. My dermatologist however has prescribed me a very low dosage of 10mg per day for 7 consecutive days, after which would be switching onto a 30mg PER WEEK dose.
