Avatar m tn Recent role of Hassab's operation for cirrhotic patients: Combination with endoscopic procedure for varices. Department of Gastroenterologic Surgery, Division of Cancer Medicine, Graduate School of Medical Science, Kanazawa University, Kanazawa, Japan. Abstract Recently, endoscopic and radiological procedures for various symptoms related to cirrhosis have improved. Thus, the role of Hassab's operation (gastroesophageal decongestion and splenectomy) has changed for cirrhotic patients.
Avatar n tn A renown heart surgeon from Mayo Clinic (Rochester) has stated the biggist problem he sees are patients who have waited too long for MV operation. He recommends an operation with enough lead time to adequately preserve LV functionality. This a surgeon's point of view and a cardiologist may have different view?!
Avatar m tn My Husband has a blood clot in his heart and 3 blooked arteries can,t have an operation too dangerous is now eating well and learning to walk.
Avatar n tn good luck and i sincerely hope it works out well for you and you can put your heart situation and your issues behind you...i know it is very difficult.....
Avatar n tn Some also advocate doing a TEE to see if there is clot in the left atrium and if so postpone the operation until it resolves. This is something one might recommend in someone with high risk for clot such as heart failure, DM, previous embolic stroke, etc. It is generally quite safe to come off coumadin prior to these types of surgeries and this is typically what is done here at the cleveland clinic. Again, high risk patients could consider bridging with heparin.
Avatar n tn what would be surgery risk for re-operation for avr replacement for a healthy 62 year old, with no major (liver, kidney, lung) disease in which a Bentall procedure was done in the first operation done 8 years earlier? also, what would the complications risks be for each related, possible complication?
Avatar m tn I have been experiencing GERD for the past 3 years. Heart Burning experienced after waking up, going to the GYM, tension at work, plus spicy food, tomato sauces, and fatty food. I have have done all the life style changes required ... but nothing worked. I have been on medication Nexium 40mg, the Nexium 20 mg, then other PPIs together with Anti Acids. No matter what I do I try any of the above activity I have a good chance of getting reflux at least twice per week.

Avatar f tn Then I have read a message from a Mayo Clinic surgeon who states the biggest problem he sees is that his patients have waited too long. Waiting too long can enlarge the heart chamber and decrease the heart's pumping ability, and an operation under those circumstances may not restore the heart's ability to again pump with normal contractility.
Avatar f tn I am still looking into all this for myself and am hoping that diet will help me ,I have to say I like the idea that nutrition and corrective diets work.
Avatar f tn It is not uncommon for people to have a decline in left ventricular function after operation for advanced severe mitral regurgitation. Your husband should talk with his cardiologist about his medications regimen to make certain that he is taking the right drug cocktail (ACE-inhibitor, beta blocker, etc.) and avoiding drugs that could worsen heart function (diltiazem is not recommended in patients with decreased left ventricular function).
Avatar f tn These are patients whos disease effects not just 1 single artery but rather all arteries in their heart. For these patients they run into a problem.. Every stent we place into the body significantly and exponentially increases the probability of a phenomenon called in stent restenosis, a heart attack caused by stent placement. At some point it actually becomes more risky to place additional stents then to perform a surgery. 2.
Avatar f tn Sixty-four per cent of the dietitians had received referrals from the medical team requesting inappropriate protein-restricted diets for patients without hepatic encephalopathy. Seventy-eight per cent of the dietitians requested clarification of the recommended nutritional management of patients with cirrhosis. CONCLUSION: Many medical and dietetic staff inappropriately restrict protein intake of patients with cirrhosis. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17115965?
Avatar m tn Since i am only 27 Years old and i can do all activities after the operation as normal or else i have to take precautions which Heart patients take after surgery.
Avatar f tn my husband took herbalife for 2 weeks and had to have emergency surgery on his heart he had a heart ablation his heart sped uo to 160 beets per minute they had to destroy the fast part of his heart or he would die now he only has the part of his heart that works slow all because he took herbalife this was allso confirmed by the heart surgeon but since herbalife is not regulated by the fda we could not do anything about it because its just vitamins or at least herbalife says they are ,there is st
Avatar f tn s heart was not pumping during the operation. It is not unexpected for some cognitive loss following on-the-pump heart bypass surgery. It is a phenomenon known as "pump head" that is oserved in some patients following coronary bypass surgery. Researchers from Johns Hopkins University now say that although some patients may experience declines in mental skills and motor speed immediately after surgery, such negative side effects will usually subside within a matter of months.
907968 tn?1292622204 I took a look through the "diet" related forums but they seem to be geared toward specific diets rather than generalized questions on diets and foods. So, unless someone can point me to a good diet forum where this question would be a better fit then I'll see where I can go here... looking for the benefits of Salmon/fish oil and because I love fish I have been purchasing a "family pack" of "Farm Raise Atlantic Salmon Fillets".
Avatar n tn The process of pulmonary artery banding (first part of the staging towards a double switch) is often accompanied by postop heart dysfunction, which your son already has. So it seems he would not be a good candidate for that type of procedure right now. Perhaps if he improves alot in the next few months with medical management, that is something that could be discussed further, after assessing his cardiopulmonary status by cardiac catheterization.
Avatar m tn If the blockages in the circumflex get worse, then blood will be less available for both the right side of the heart and the left side/rear. I would look into the possibilities of having the blockage in the right artery opened using stents also. If the muscle near the left apex is viable, then I would probably be looking to bypass.A nuclear scan would be very valuable here.
Avatar n tn My husband's 9 month old stent is blocked vja heart cath on 1/23/2009. No mention was made to clear the stent; I was in the shock mode and didn't ask many questions. His heart cath "pictures" are being sent to another heart specialist in another town. Our heart doctor didn't think anything could be done. I'm not ready to quit. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Avatar f tn He told me that he would go to Taxes Heart Center for ascending aorta aneurysm. He said a place with experience in ascending aorta. My friend does not know much aorta, but he said that the 5 cm measurement is average. For a tiny small person like me, he thinks it may be 4.5 cm. I hope that someone can give me some advice.
Avatar m tn It is also common for shortness of breath during recovery. Some patients take several weeks or even months for this to resolve. This does not mean they shouldn't run tests to establish it isn't a problem with the bypass vessels.
