Common Questions and Answers about Diet zone principles

135456 tn?1301437624 At least from one old thread, my understanding is that HR advocates more of a Zone (balanced) diet, as opposed to a very low fat diet like Pritikin which has total fat calories under 10% of total calories. As far as treatment is concerned, with me and many others, an "optimum" diet was but an academic discussion, because the real problem was finding a palpable diet that one could both figuratively and literally stomach.
Avatar f tn That was part of my point -- archaeologists have never found a site where grain wasn't found if there was a grain native to the area, so actual paleo people did eat grains even before they were able to prepare them to make them not so hard to chew. This diet isn't so much paleo as it is just another modern high protein diet. Might be good, might not be, but again, it's a fad diet that research will probably show doesn't work any better than any other diet and might be worse.
Avatar f tn The way to control PCOS is thought weight management (get as close to your idea weight as possible - and this may be easier said than done), diet (lots of natural minimally processed foods, lower refined carb, low sugar), and regular (preferably daily) exercise. Eating principles will follow healthy principles of small frequent meals with healthy fats, quality protein, veges, and some fruits.
Avatar f tn Even though several books and websites suggests otherwise, there are only guiding principles that you should understand. With these principles, you and your physician can develop a diet that gives your body the nutrition it needs without putting additional stress on your liver. We all have very similar nutritional needs, whether we have chronic hepatitis, or not.
Avatar n tn Purely anecdotal, but I was able to normalize my enzymes 2-3 times during the 40 years prior to treatment. In all these instances I adhered to a strict low fat diet, namely the "Pritkin" diet where total fat calories add up to no more than 10% of total daily calories. Protein is also limited on this diet so it's basically high carb, low fat, low-moderate protein. That said, some will say that a more balanced "Zone" type diet is better for the liver.
Avatar f tn I do two things to help me not be hungry while dieting, first i snack on a 180 calorie pack of sunflower seeds, it takes me my whole work day to finish and keeps my mouth busy so im not snacking on high calorie stuff. ..plus they come in many flavors do its not boring. Secondly i do the volumetrics diet. Its based on the normal weight loss principles of low calorie, low fat but teaches you to choose items that will fill you up faster (ie-grapes instead of raisins).
676032 tn?1315674063 Take a peek at the Zone diet and South Beach plan - this may help you with weight issues if that is what you are asking about. What way do you mean "help" with hypothyroidism?
Avatar f tn Obviously I have the Diet Diary App, for the past week I've been dieting-calorie counting. I've not eaten over 1700calss which is what the app set me. I've been eating all healthy foods with good meals too. I've been jogging 2/3 times a week, swimming once a week and sit ups 4/5 times a week with bits of walking in there. From Monday to Monday I've lost 1lb. Feeling a bit disheartened. Im 5ft 8 and weigh 11.9 after my 1lb loss.
Avatar m tn Lots of opinions ("professional" and other) re diet/nutrition. What is working for me now, is a "South Beach/Zone" type of diet which is basically lean meat/fish and vegetables. Almost no starch (bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, etc) and very little fruit -- maybe one portion three times a week. With this diet -- and copious amounts of exercise -- Ive lost ten pounds, brought my cholesterol down from 200 to 150 and normalized my bp from pre-hypertensive.
Avatar f tn hye..i'm 19 & i'm fat since i was 6 years old.can you suggest me on healthy diet that will make me slim within 2 months? with exercises too.. cause i'm getting tired on people who always look down on me. TQ :) plus i'm having 'shy' problem.its not that i dislike jogging, but with people around, its make me feel like 'why i am the only one with this size..
Avatar n tn I agree with Verona and also urge you to consider a diet (life plan change) as the Zone diet or SOuth Beach Both these diets control insulin and are very helpful with weight in hypothyroid patients. I found the Zone plan to be better. I have taken off about 7 to 10 pounds - I still bloat at times - but I do feel better.
Avatar f tn http://www.elanaspantry.com/paleo-diet-recipes/ http://thepaleodiet.com/paleo-diet-recipes/ The Peak 8 routine it will quickly raise your heart rate 8 times for very short bursts, with a cooling down period in between. Ideally you’ll be sprinting or cycling full throttle for 30 seconds with a 90 second cool down in between each outburst.  This is the fastest way to lose fat and build muscle in the body. Peak 8 actually stimulates the growth hormone in the body.
Avatar f tn So Ive had success losing it but always manage to gain it back. Obviously, diet and exercise are key. I am on a high protein diet, the paleo diet. Not only do I use the treadmill but I also life weights. The weight won't just fall off. Remember, it took a while to get where you are, it is going to take a while and a lot of work to get it off. It is doable though.
Avatar m tn As to your friend -- the only two successful diets re cholesterol/weight for me were the one listed -- somewhere between South Beach. Zone and healthy Atkins -- or a very low fat diet like Pritkin or Ornish. Obviously they both work via different principles as one approach is very low carbs and the other is very high carbs. Any time I just tried to "eat healthy" or follow more relaxed guidelines like the American Heart Association, DASH, etc, -- the results weren't enough.
Avatar f tn m not sure the extent to which this can be attributed to the changes I have made in my diet, but thought I would share them with the forum in case anyone was interested... The recommendations come from 'The Vitamin D Cure' by James E. Dowd. He goes into great detail about exact portions for your body weight etc. that I can't reproduce here but, anyway, I have just adopted the broad principles for myself. The basic idea is to greatly reduce acidity in your diet.
Avatar f tn Anyone know when your out of the danger zone...
4254325 tn?1355663975 When were you told the safe zone is? (dropped risk for mc) I was told after 2 months...
Avatar f tn How do you do the zone code. Where do you get it from .
Avatar n tn Dangerous! A diet of 800 calories for your BMI cannot sustain you for any length of time PLUS you run the risk of slowing down your metabolism, for self-preservation, (we have inherited this from our ancestors, when there were periods of drought with very little availability of food) The most effective weight loss program consists of elements which you will follow all your life, based on sound and solid nutritional and fitness/exercise principles . Easy does it!
