Avatar n tn However, I would like to say to I have been plagued with ulcerative colitis for 24 years. I have now been in remission for almost 5 years!!! What happened to bring on a remission period so long? I happened to change my diet due to another health problem. Basically, I stopped buying red meat and cooking it at home: beef, pork, lamb. We now eat lots of fish, and free-run chicken and turkey, as well as vegetarian meals. I still eat it out occasionally, but it is not a mainstay of my diet.
Avatar m tn m dealing with my cystic acne is through diet. Need to eliminate all food intolerances. Stick with an all natural diet. No processed foods whatsoever. Lots of water, proper sleep, plenty of exercise and stress free as much as possible. These are all good for the colitis too. We need to heal ourselves from the inside out. My acne breakouts seem worse two weeks before my monthly, so it could be due to hormonal imbalances too.
Avatar f tn Can you imagine if I had listened to him? I had to do a lot of research on my own to find out what was happening to me. A lot more research and recognition about this disease has been done and more information about UC is available now. Since that time I have been on medications and I have had my ups and downs with periods of remission where I wasn't taking any meds for a two year period. Unfortunately the symptoms returned and I had to return to taking my meds.
Avatar m tn Check out the SCD (Specific Carbohdrate Diet) diet. I heard about this from a video on YouTube and was amazed at his recovery as well as getting off all the drugs. Video name on youtube 'CROHN'S DISEASE CURE ULCERATIVE COLITIS CURE CROHN'S OLITIS IBS CURE SCD DIET." I so need to add a c to olitis lol. I found an article online you will be very interested in reading too: "The Power of SCD and Dawn’s Remarkable Ulcerative Colitis Remission".
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in early stage. Right now I am talking Lialda 1.2 mg 3 tablets once a day. The above symptoms have totally vanished. But literally I am not eating any spicy food or fibre food. I want to know the diet plan.I really lost weight. I have a new problem past 2 weeks. Every morning around 6.30 am or so i have a contracting pain in my lower left ribs. It's very stabbing and also I have lower back pain.
Avatar n tn i went to the docs, who said i could have gallstones or a kidney stone, they sent me to my local hostptial for a abdominal scan, which came back clear. i have had numerous blood tests, which came back normal. in the meantime, the stomach pains and diahrea, worsened, i noticed mucus on my stools, a yellowy orangey liquid seemed to run out of my bum, and i lost a little weight.
Avatar n tn The most important thing you can do is to get active ulcerative colitis under control and into remission before trying to get pregnant. Consult your gastroenterologist and your obstetrician and discuss that you are planning to conceive. That will help you in preventing relapses and ensuring optimum nutrition during pregnancy. Keep me posted. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar n tn You might want to look at iron pills to get your anemia improved. Watch your diet. My son avoids spicy foods, has cut coffee, and eats limited dairy, high fiber items and sugar. I've done some ready that a gluten free diet can be beneficial for UC but he won't go there. This is highly controversial but smoking pot does help and there are even pot pills you can take now. I am in Canada so is a little easier here since we have a government medical marijuana plan.
Avatar f tn Other than IBS or spastic colon you could be suffering from Celiac Disease/Ulcerative Colitis/ Crohn’s disease, H pylori infection, diabetes, food intolerance, malabsorption syndromes, constipation, gallbladder and liver problems, pancreatic dysfunction, or taking a diet rich in sulfites. Cancers of the gut and in female ovarian cancer and PCOD too could be a cause—not meant to scare you but if all other causes are ruled out, then this can be a possibility.
Avatar f tn I do have this problem. I've been to a gastointerologist who thinks I'm dealing with ulcerative colitis, but couldn't be diagnosed with this because it didn't show up in my colonoscopy. He said that the ulcers don't stick around very long, and by the time I got the colonoscopy done, it was weeks after seeing the blood. I just finished another bout of very painful spasms which lasted about two weeks and trips to the bathroom 12 times a day.
Avatar f tn My son-in-law was just diagnosed with Chrons Disease & Ulcerative Colitis. He is 33 yrs. old and has been very ill lately and is having difficulty living with these diseases. Working is becoming more difficult as well as his diet. He is living on Ensure, Cherrios (dry, no milk) and Dan-Active Yogurt. Are there any support groups to help this young couple?? They live in St. Louis. Thank you.
Avatar n tn Not sure whether it's ulcerative colitis or other form, but my question is - I was presecribed a foam steriod which is "squirted" up the back passage for my colitis. This is my 3rd day on that treatment. My pain and bleeding are still as bad as ever - I'm in agony. How long should I give the treatment to start having an effect before I tell my doctor its not working?
Avatar f tn Is ulcerative colitis incurable? Has anyone on this site overcome ulcerative colitis? My sister has just been diagnosed with the condition. I am hoping that since it is in the early stages, there is an early remedy or cure for the condition.
Avatar f tn In 2008, I went to the doctor due to blood in my stool. He said I had colitis. I would like to know how many people have herpes and colitis? I believe the herpes allowed me to get colitis. Both herpes and colitis attacks your immune system. Also, do doctors really know what they are talking about? The human body is a very complex machine? Oh, by the way I divorced my wife in 1992.
Avatar f tn cancer, ulcerative colitis, crohns. I have to have a colonoscopy. With my symptoms what is the likely outcome? Any ideas? I do not think it is cancer, there is no history of cancer, but I know nothing about crohns or UC.

Avatar m tn My husband diagnosed with chronic ulcerative colitis at age 10 at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston TX. Ultimately this developed into cancer of colon and he had total ileostomy at age 37. Cancer has not returned. However he is diabetic and last year was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis. He was taking remicade by infusion but had to stop that due to his chronic anemia. The rheumatology doctor told him that the ankylosing spondylitis can cause ulcerative colitis and crohn's.

Avatar n tn Mine was 8.5 until I had an iron infusion to boost it 2 weeks ago through an IV line :( it is normal for your levels to drop in pregnancy, my midwife said ideally it will be 10.0-10.5 when I deliver, normal levels are around 11.5 so if you're 10.3 I would be too worried. Try increasing the iron in your diet by eating things like broccoli and black pudding, there are more foods I'm sure but I'm restricted because of my ulcerative colitis so mainly stick with the above two.
Avatar n tn Hi all, Ill try to keep it short and to the point, but I've had a horrible two months August 10th I fell quite ill. I was at a festival so at first GP assumed food poisoning, my symptoms were diarrhea (which became bloody after a week), vomiting, sweats, weakness and fatigue. My GP did stool samples which showed nothing, but blood tests showed signs of infection so I was given Ciprofloxacin. I couldn't eat at all for 10 days, and I lost 22lbs in just under 2 weeks.
Avatar f tn Which do you have - ulcerative colitis or crohn's? It is important to treat it so it doesn't get bad. I had ulcerative colitis for 10 years before my bowel perforated and I had surgery to remove it and then had an ileal pouch built. My son has severe ulcerative colitis but it is in remission with Imuran. You need to see a different GI doctor.

I've been in remission for abt a year & a half and my ob told me to take my meds as needed but I haven't seen a G.I. since I've been pregnant and that'll be 24wks Sunday. I haven't seen one cus there isn't much they'll do while I'm pregnant but I'm fine as long as I'm not having any complications. Anyway, I've always weighed in tha 115-140 range.
