Avatar f tn I am down to about 100 lbs on this diet I put myself on. I used to weight about 112 - 115. My diet was 2 fold - 1 was to lower my blood sugar and 2 - to lower my cholesterol. I do have a glucose monitor and it is usually under 120 two hours after eating, but this morning it was 141 when I took a fasting blood sugar test, I did have an avacado, healthy choice fudge bar (I cheated) pasta and peanuts!

This diet however, may still not be enough to get your sugars down and you may still need insulin / other meds. Please know that if you eat a ketogenic diet you need to follow it strictly.

Therefore there is a lot you can you with diet, exercise, weight loss to improve your condition. If you are not obese and do not have any of the glucose intolerance issues then it is more difficult because weight loss will obviously not help.

You really need to eliminate all sugary snacks and soda from the home, this is difficult if there are other people in the house that don't think they need a healthy diet. Remember, if its out of site, its out of mind. I used to like baked potatoes- starch is sugar, no more (but there so good). I finally got a 2 hour glucose load test before my insurance runs out, I was OK on that (thank god).

I have written in your previous postings that you need to use Google or Yahoo to search on complex vs simple carbs. Please include a search on the Glycemic Index reference food groups. Educate yourself about the foods available to you, what you put into your body and how these foods will affect your life. All carbohydrates are broken down to glucose to produce the energy.

For example-- things like breads, potatoes, pasta, crackers, etc. can cause a drastic rise in your blood sugar if you aren't careful. (They are converted to sugar after you eat them.) Other foods/drinks need care too (example; milk, fruit, fruit juice) can also cause blood sugar to rise (so serving sizes and moderation are important).

Avatar n tn For the type 2 diabetic, I also have read (from the Atkins people) that their diet is a good way to lower glucose levels. This is logical for the type 2 diabetic, for eating a fairly low-carbohydrate diet would not require the production of as much insulin by the already stressed pancreas.

Avatar f tn If a certain food spikes you up say over 140 you might try a lesser amount of that food or just eliminate it from your diet. It is not really possible to make a list of foods to eat and not eat because we are all different. But a diet of protein and lots of fresh vegies, small amounts of fruit and small amounts of carbs should do best.
