Diet soda linked to diabetes

Common Questions and Answers about Diet soda linked to diabetes

diet

Avatar f tn Glomerulonephritis, inherited kidney diseases, congenital conditions and infection may also be responsible. A lot of studies have linked soda to diabetes. Though drinking soda will not directly cause diabetes, it adds extra calories to the diet that may cause weight gain, increasing the risk for developing diabetes. Lifestyle modification and healthy diet can significantly lower the risk of diabetes and other chronic conditions including CKD. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn is pepsi ok to drink as i am new to this i have type 2 .
Avatar f tn I think it is the equivalent to 12 teaspoons of sugar in a 12-ounce can. And unfortunately, if it is diet soda, it is loaded with chemicals. Hate to say it because the sugar gives you a higher diabetes risk and a higher risk that your child will later on develop diabetes, and the chemicals are just nasty for you. Can you taper off by cutting the soda in half with sparkling water? And then just doing only sparkling water with a splash or two of orange juice or grape juice?
5898681 tn?1392221010 Aspratame is in any soda even sparkling water. However I was told by my mother in law not to drink soda in general but especially not diet. The reasoning I'm not completely sure of. Probably artificial sweeteners.
Avatar m tn Something that I do is look at the lables when I am not sure if something is ok for me. When you do this compare the lables from a diet soda to a regular soda and see what they look like, this will pretty much give you a answer as well.
5913031 tn?1382391190 Diet soda... Not sure about. Any diet soda is bad for you period whether pregnant or not. Research shows it can cause cancer. Also contains aspartame which is a form of rat poison, anyway. Soda is alright during pregnancy here and there... As long as you don't consume for then 200mg.
Avatar f tn I have heard that diet soda is not as good for you while preg as reg soda. I think it has to do with the Aspartame in it. I drink a reg soda a week and drink decaf coffee. Something you may wanna try too is to make caffeinated coffee mixed with decaf when you make it. This way you can get off the coffee quicker and not get as shocked when you do.
Avatar f tn Some doctors will say diet pop is OK because they want the moms to avoid sugar, usually because of gestational diabetes risk, but most contain aspertame and it really is not a safe substitute. As far as I know stevia is OK but I'm not aware of any sodas in the US made with it. I've heard the Mio tastes good but personally I wouldn't recommend it for pregnant moms; took one look at the bottle when it first came out and it's chock full of artifical dyes and chemicals.
1287446 tn?1313947638 It just seems like everyone I talk to is either bias – either laughs at the fact soda could be linked to this issue, or has a ‘soda is the devil’ type attitude and that it’s poison and I’m killing myself slowly. As far as the causes of high BUN/Creatinine, I’m not certain. I’d say my diet is moderate protein. When I’m thirsty, I drink, but there are times I do feel dehydrated. I drank plenty of water before the last two tests.
Avatar f tn Try to avoid drinking Diet Soda. I think if you want to have a soda every once in a while is fine but just drink regular. The artificial sweetners is what you should avoid and that is what makes Diet Drinks so sweet is the aspertame or splenda that they use. if you must, then go with regular.
Avatar f tn Interestingly, babies whose moms intake a lot of sugar are at higher risk of developing diabetes after they are born. So if the soda is not diet, please do stop drinking soda all the time. And unfortunately if it is diet, the chemicals in it are not great for you when preggers either. Hard on the liver and also implicated in weight gain, paradoxically. Try to cut back.
Avatar f tn If your trying to stay awake, try chewing gum. Also the sweetener in diet coke has been linked to thyroid problems in children. Trust me I love diet coke with crushed ice,but I gave that up too.
Avatar f tn t technically caused because of sweets. (Which I love!) when you get put on a diet for your GD, they will try to control it with a diet at first, and it will be a very strict low-carb diet. The carbs is what gets your blood sugar levels elevated. Carbs turn into sugar after they are digested, and if you have GD, excessive amounts of carbs can cause extra sugar to not get digested by your pancreas, and it just floats around in your blood stream. Not too lovely.
Avatar f tn I take my prenatal everyday and I try to eat lots of veggies...SO....if I wanna drink diet coke, I am going to drink diet coke. ESPECIALLY since regular soda is not an option for me.
Avatar m tn I have to say alot of people think they know about diabetes. but if you have any questions just talk to you doctor or educator they know the best.
2093279 tn?1379547953 I found out at 31 weeks. But mine is just border line and I control it with diet. No soda (well I sneak one once a week lol) no constant snacking like I want to and just watch how much carbs I'm taking in. I was terrified when I found out I had it...but its jot so bad and I'll do anything to keep my baby healthy. I'm 39weeks today so hell be here soon!
2006603 tn?1331329327 I am 22w4d with my first. I love to drink soda, and although I have cut down to 1-2 sodas a day. I was wondering is sprite better to drink thab pepsi? Sprite dont have caffine and is low sodium so is it better to drink than pepsi while pregnant?
Avatar f tn I do with this pregnancy. Mine is diet controlled. Most likely it will go away after delivery.
Avatar f tn My doctor does not have an issue with pop per se but rather caffeinated beverages. So, if you go with non caffeine drinks, that is better. The empty calories of pop is something to consider but not doing damage to your baby.
Avatar f tn s better to regulate now since it can cause development issues. I was diabetic before pregnancy so I had to follow a strict diet while pregnant and check my sugars on a regular basis.
Avatar f tn I normally drink water, diet can iced tea (or fresh) and seltzer. Now my question is.... is diet soda OK in moderation? Like when me and my bf go to a mall, water gets so boring and the fast food places generally never have seltzer water. So therefore I'm forced with diet soda (YUCK). Is it ok just on the weekends? I mean I guess I'm doing something right, I've lost 30.5bs since 9/14 (not even 3 months yet) and still have another 12.5lbs to go by 1/4/09. Thanks!
1536593 tn?1292557199 Definitely stay away from diet soda and all sources of artificial sweeteners. It's not the brand name that's important here, it's what's in the product. Likely, you're like me and this is an intolerance. It's still necessary to AVOID this stuff in the future. There are a lot of bad health effects associated with artificial sweeteners--all of them. The primary one, of course, being that they are known carcinogenics.
