Avatar n tn The best diet is one that incorporates lots of fresh/frozen veggies, lean protein such as meat, eggs, dairy and legumes, healthy fats such as avocados, olive and coconut oils, nuts and seeds, along with a serving or two of fruit/day. Most vegetables have so few calories that you can eat as much as you want of them, without worrying about eating too much. Keep your meat servings to about the size of a deck of cards. Add olive or coconut oil for seasoning or to cook with.

Plus, you can experiment a little more - I was always very generous with the meat and pasta vs. the eggs. Daisy would get so excited when she saw me grabbing the container from the fridge! Avatar f tn Everyone gets sick differently so what sets me off isn't necessarily what will set you off. For me I have to be completely dairy, red meat, pork, and egg yolk free (and obviously anything pan fried or deep fried). I also have to be limiting in my avocado, oils, coconut, poultry, spicy foods, citrus or acidic foods, and oily fish. So, for me, there is nothing from the frozen or prepared section that I can safely eat. I will also warn you many people react to dairy, red meat, pork, and eggs.

The idea is that one needs to have not just a legume, but a legume and a grain together in the dish, to give a balanced protein. These diets are low carbohydrate diets. Eating low carb avoids the constant stimulation of insulin. The first few weeks of the diet help in getting rid of insulin resistance. Many people say goodbye to their medications on this diet.

Otherwise, just start surfing for recipes featuring those items; there are tons of them available. Figure out how many calories each of you requires/day and go from there. I might suggest that you have some blood work done, as well, if you haven't already.

Avatar n tn Dear winkster, Actually a diabetic diet is really only what a healthy diet would be for people without diabetes. And fruits are a part of that even though they have sugar it get metabolized like any other carbohydrates.

It's not a diet I will stay on, but I think the advice to give up meat is wrong for people with fatty liver. It's carbs that come from too much sugar, alcohol and processed food that is the main culprit. There are many other reasons not to eat too much meat so that is also good advice. The cure for fatty liver is reducing carbohydrates.

101028 tn?1419603004 I typically do not eat a lot of meat but phase 1 is pretty much meat based. you can substitute beans for the meat but so far I've just been eating a heck of a lot of chicken and veggies. I don't like fish so I'm pretty darn bored with it all. Phase 1 is very restrictive :( Only certain meats, certain veggies and certain fruits can be eaten. No rice, no bread, no potatoes and not a lot of veggies that I like in general on it.
Avatar f tn Hello. Just a question, what can I feed my diabetic min-pin that is home cooked? She will not eat any kind of dog food, this is how she got the pancreatitis that caused the diabetes. My vet is of no help, she said that if she won't eat the RX dog foods then just give her white meat chicken, boiled only and brocolli or green beans. That's it and I know that my dog is not getting enough nutrients from this diet. She was diagnosed in May of 2006 at the age of 5.

Pretty much anything you want in it. Again found simple recipes online But they both required being prepped a night before and then having to set in the fridge overnight, but then baking for not so long.
Avatar f tn Barb is right to caution you, any restrictive diet needs monitoring and knowledge to ensure it is healthy. There are many people who follow vegan diets that are not healthy. That said it can be a very healthy diet if you choose natural products and are prepared to cook. My daughter is vegan and I regularly eat vegan meals, especially when trying to loose weight. That's because I can have a large meal that is filling by making something like a vegetable stew, lentil bolognaise or vege chilli.

Avatar n tn I would suggest looking for whole food plant-based recipes online. There is a huge body of evidence pointing to the ability of the diet to reverse type 2 diabetes and lower cholesterol levels. Give it a shot for a couple weeks and check your blood scores! I hope this helps!
