764218 tn?1234569759 I would say that most of the weight loss products do not work. Ali is the only one that is approved by the FDA as being safe and effective; however, I understand that it has some unpleasant side effects. The best and safest way to lose weight is through diet alterations and exercise. You need to figure out how many calories/day you need to maintain you current weight, then cut that amount enough to produce a calorie deficit. Do not go below 1000-1200 calories/day.
Avatar f tn Yes, Alli does work and it's approved by the FDA; and if you follow the protocol, it does teach you to eat healthier. The problem with Alli is that if you don't follow the program properly, there are some unpleasant "side effects", so if you decide to try that make sure you read up on it and know what you are getting into before you start.
Avatar n tn Hello... First of all, these supplements shouldn't be taken by people under the age of 18. I am not a big fan of "diet pills" and while the company who manufactures these can say just about anything they want...Unless they have been approved by the FDA, I wouldn't suggest taking them. Lastly, with a known V-Tach arrhythmia, any type of "diet pill" is a NO,NO! Please consider the pros and cons if you choose to take these.
Avatar m tn Apparently the transient elastography test (FibroScan) was approved by the FDA this past April. Was this discussed here before? Hard to believe I didn't see this anywhere. http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/fda-approves-fibroscan-for-non-invasive-liver-diagnosis-203186961.html I really didn't think it would get approved. Even though it was used in Europe for many years the FDA held off approval. Some studies showed it was not accurate for middle stages.
Avatar n tn Looks like the medication mentioned is not FDA approved. FDA (Food and Drug Administration) the controlling authority for all medications. If you see all the OTC's and some herbal medications will not have their approval. This is important because, it means that no scientific studies have been conducted for these medications hence interaction with other medications or their side effects would not have been studied, so it is difficult to comment on their side effects.
3219519 tn?1345993889 To be very honest, Topamax or topimerate was approved by FDA as an anti-epilepsy drug. It has not been approved for weight loss. Weight loss is a serious side effect of this drug, and hence is often being used off label to help people lose weight.
1783159 tn?1450763556 I have a friend whose using the Alli pills which are the only FDA approved diet pills. I know you mentioned ways to loose weight without taking pills but I definitely wanted to mention those because she's had great success on them. Also just cut back on calories and watch what you eat. Drink mainly water and try to exercise when you can. Mainly though it's what you put in your body in my opinion. Good luck!
574118 tn?1305135284 The medications that are FDA approved and in off label use as part of clinical studies that I am aware of are: Riluzole, Thyroxin and Namenda. There should be more as time increases. Also there are ongoing clinical studies in general as they find out more how to understand and treat bipolar depression.
Avatar n tn ALL ELISA tests are FDA approved. All tests marketed in the US are FDA approved. All tests are 3 month tests to obtain a conclusive negative test result. Now move on.
Avatar f tn You are right Merri..guard up. Zohydro ER was approved by the FDA in the fall and is expected to launch this March...(extended release). I know I was really wordy, but am passionate about chronic pain management. I agree that is important for us to be aware that it is out there...when we see or hear the name, we addicts know exactly what is in front of us. Thank you for the reminder!
Avatar f tn Many OTC herbal supplements may be quite harmful. Read the labels.....most of those items are sold for "amusement purposes" and are not approved by the FDA or anyone else for ingestion. You may purchase substances (natural...) like opium poppy pods quite legally and easily.........but you have no idea of the purity or strength of the pods.....and many naive users manage to kill themselves with an Overdose accidentally......
29837 tn?1414534648 You dont have to carry the BOC pills around in a cooler like the PEG,even tho it says too keep in the frigde,at least this was my advice from my nurse ,she got the news from the drug company...but its wise to store them there.
675923 tn?1296238011 Fish oil has shown some promise as an adjunct to standard mood stabilizers and I took in the past for that purpose as well as other uses as determined by a doctor or psychiatrist. However now that there is the FDA approved medication Lovaza that was developed from fish oil and although developed as an anti-cholesterol medication is used off label for bipolar (there may be other uses as well within a doctor's discretion) that is one that more psychiatrists are wiling to prescribe.
Avatar m tn This new drug was approved by the FDA in April and is now avaliable in the USA. Truvada was used for hbv patients with less than optimal response to viread and is considered somewhat more potent and even less resistance prone than viread. Now Gilead has exchanged the 300mg TDF in Truvada with 25mg of TAF, making it well suited for hbv patients with kidney concerns.
Avatar m tn not at all.it is wide accepted US fda is corrupted to the bone by testimony of people who was in the fda commissions (when not corrupted receiving tips for family members and sons life probability.........) the worst system in the world to look at!
Avatar f tn If you were my patient, I would advise you that Adios is a natural supplement, and as such, is not regulated by the FDA and is not well studied in terms of actions and interactions. SO, I can not find scientific evidence that it interferes with the action of birth control pills, nor do the active ingredients seem like they would reduce the effectiveness of the pills. Certainly pregnancy would not help with weight loss, so if you are going to use Adios, you should probably continue your pills.
Avatar f tn The FDA has issued an updated warning against Ondansetran, better known by its brand name, Zofran, use in pregnancy discussed in OBGYN News. Zofran is a 5-HT3 receptor antagonist approved by the FDA for preventing nausea and vomiting related to cancer chemotherapy and surgery. It has been used off-label to treat nausea and vomiting in pregnancy.
714220 tn?1230600824 I think if anyone is going to be taking a diet supplement, that they should take Alli...afterall it is the ONLY FDA approved drug. The Kmart here where I live has a sale going... double pack for $50. I am debating buying some, as I have a tight budget. I know it works though...ack! Decisions, decisions. I guess I could go the good ol' fashioned American way..."CHARGE IT!
Avatar m tn there is another medication that my doctor want me to take but my insurance decline it, it is the varead, the only way that the insurance will approved it is to take the lamivudine first and if that doesn't work they will approved it. i spoke to my insurance and here is what they said tenofovir - not showing in their system i have to get a DIN so they can verify it. how about ATRIPLA?
Avatar m tn com I ordered an Oraquick test from them, and not only was it damaged and had to be disposed of, but they did not send me the FDA approved Oraquick test that I ordered, but a similar named Ora-rapid test, a Chinese made test that was not FDA approved.
Avatar f tn read the weight loss cure by kevin trudeau. Dr. Nickels on Milwaukee, WI offers this program to patients. www.drnickels.
683231 tn?1467323017 ” Harvoni is the third drug approved by the FDA in the past year to treat chronic HCV infection. The FDA approved Olysio (simeprevir) in November 2013 and Sovaldi in December 2013. Hepatitis C is a viral disease that causes inflammation of the liver that can lead to diminished liver function or liver failure. Most people infected with HCV have no symptoms of the disease until liver damage becomes apparent, which may take decades.
739988 tn?1386672969 Remember technically a doctor can prescribe any medication for other purposes but usually a trained psychopharmocologist would be the one to know about FDA approved medications in use experimentally for other purposes. Your doctor could prescribe it for anti-cholesterol use of course. Its hard to get covered as an off label medication so it would be best if prescribed by your doctor for anti-cholesterol purposes and then followed up by your psychiatrist: http://www.dshs.state.tx.
Avatar n tn After reading the following article on HCG, I pretty much decided to go the natural, FDA approved route: healthresources.caremark.
Avatar n tn I would advise against advertised natural products, as their health benefits are not approved by FDA and other such agencies. A nutrition expert can help devise a diet plan that can lower your bad cholesterol, and help increase good cholesterol. Take care!
