Common Questions and Answers about Diet of infants

diet

Avatar n tn I'm sorry you are having trouble with weight. It really is a lifestyle change. I went on a vegan diet (balanced) and starting drinking vanilla soy milk and no animal products. It is hard at first but I can eat all the pasta I want and I have lost weight. You may want to get a book on how to do this to stay balanced. It takes a lot of discipline. Plant based whole foods fill you up more and provide all the nutrients you really need.
Avatar n tn I wonder if the diarrhea your baby is having is normal. Infants, especially breastfed infants, have very frequent bowel movements. I couldn't change diapers fast enough. If there is no blood present, then I wouldn't worry too much. If you are still concerned, you could have your pediatrition run an analysis on a stool sample. This would confirm whether or not there is blood present. I hope this helps! Enjoy your precious baby!
Avatar m tn Was your son also tested for the actual thyroid hormones, Free T3 and Free T4? If not, he should be. TSH levels are, typically, higher in infants; what was the range given on the lab report? Your son must have adequate thyroid hormones in order to grow and develop normally; treatment is just as effective and necessary in infants, as it is in adults.
172023 tn?1334672284 The cause? Poor diet and lack of sunshine, the researchers conclude today in the online version of the journal Pediatrics. The researchers analyzed data on more than 6,000 children, ages 1 to 21, collected by the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2001-2004. The researchers found that 9 percent, or 7.6 million children across the country, were vitamin D deficient and another 61 percent, or 50.8 million, were vitamin D insufficient.
Avatar f tn As for Soy, Asians eat a lot of soy in their diet, Soy formula is a good choice for infants, Soy-containing foods help prevent osteoporosis, Soy is a healthy food for adults, Soy helps improve libido in men. The above about Soy is false. Those who eat large amounts of soy, especially non-fermented soy, have severe hormonal imbalances that are very difficult or impossible to correct without eliminating or drastically reducing soy in the diet. i have seen soy as an ingredient added to tea bags!
Avatar n tn Likely because of reduced viscosity and increased gastric volumes, the fluid diet of the infant facilitates the process of regurgitation compared with solid meals ingested by older children and adults. Esophageal clearance is similar in infants and adults, although evidence of reduced peristaltic [the motion of the esophagus and intestine that moves the food through them] activity in preterm infants has been reported.
Avatar n tn This is a common questions on this site. Cosmetic shaping of the skull is not done in adults and is reserved for infants with severe deformities. External compression devices are also useful in infants, but worthless in adults.
Avatar f tn 8. For infants over 1 month old only on breast milk or formula, add fruit juices 1 oz./month of age per day. Pear or apple juice are OK at any age. (Reason: treating a symptom) 9. For infants over 4 months old, also add baby foods with high fiber content twice a day (peas, beans, apricots, prunes, peaches, pears, plums). 10. Diet for Children Over 1 Year Old: 11. Avatar n tn There is a strong history of atopy in the family. At this point infantile eczema is still a likely differential. The family history of dermatitis and the way you described the skin condition may still suggest that this is so. In infants the cheek seems to be the most common area involved. Infantile eczema may have variable appearances .They do not have a definite characteristic. So ,this is still a likely differential here. I suggest you seek second opinion with another dermatologist .
1035252 tn?1427227833 I noticed that several people have asked recently about a forum dedicated to the parenting of newborns and/or infants, since the only MH group starts with age 1-5. I started a group specifically for the age of Newborn up to 1 year...so please feel free to join and ask any questions under the sun OR to post if you find any pertinent information (such as information from reputable sources about infant equipment safety recalls, or information about infant health and care).
Avatar n tn See what the diagnosis is first before you make any diet changes. It could be any number of things but its highly unusual for Tourrette's to occur in infants.
Avatar f tn t know the exact timeline- I think the test goes back to about 20 weeks of pregnancy. My best advice is to let your provider know so they are aware of it and they can be on the look out for any complications with the baby. Good luck!
Avatar n tn My son didn't even notice it. Just keep the front of his diaper rubbed down with a lot of Vaseline. Him being that young I would ask your pediatrition instead of us. We wouldn't be able to tell you the dosage and what not. I don't believe babies that young are suppose to take anything though. I know it's hard looking at their little weenis like that though.
Avatar m tn A higher percentage of mothers achieved HBV DNA 9. Among the 19 infants that have since reached the age of 7 months, 18 were tested and all were HBsAg(-). Conclusions: TDF treatment for the entire pregnancy period is safe and well-tolerated in pregnant women with active CHB. A majority of mothers in this study maintained complete virological response with normalized ALT and none had antiviral resistance or signs of disease progression.
Avatar n tn Premature infants are at greater risk for hyperbilirubinemia because brain toxicity occurs at lower levels of bilirubin than in term infants. As a result, premature infants are treated at lower levels of bilirubin but with the same treatments discussed here. Encourage feeding — Providing adequate breastmilk or formula is an important part of preventing and treating jaundice.

Avatar n tn margypops is right to ask whether the baby is being overheated somehow but just a reminder-babies of this age should be laid on their back to sleep-not their sides-in order to reduce the risk of cot death in infants.

Their babies are often irritable and lethargic, with irregular sleep habits.

338963 tn?1253660822 I also did some reading and it said that breastfed infants tend to grow faster than formula fed infants in the first couple of months, but then slower than formula fed infants after that, but that this is normal. Make sure you are having a healthy diet, particularly if you are breastfeeding. They say babies should not be introduced to food / solids until about 6 months. Aiden still has a long way to go til then. Be guided by your pediatrician for when to introduce foods to him.
Avatar n tn Periventricular leukomalacia (PVL) is the most common ischemic brain injury in premature infants. The ischemia occurs in the border zone at the end of arterial vascular distributions. The ischemia of periventricular leukomalacia occurs in the white matter adjacent to the lateral ventricles. The traditional diagnostic hallmarks of periventricular leukomalacia are periventricular echodensities or cysts detected by cranial ultrasonography.
Avatar n tn The neonatologist in the NICU said it was mild, as per ECHO results, and was caused b/c of my gestational diabetes. I followed up with a pediatric cardiologist who said his LVH is resolving within the chamber, but remains thickened around the perimeter of the ventricle and at the septum. This MD didn't have much info to offer, are cases such as my son's common? Do they usually resolve with out any damage to the heart?
