Avatar f tn Is it possible that my ankles are swollen because of my thyroid imbalance? If so,what can I do to get rid of it or to make it less swollen. It is really annoying, especially now that summer's coming. I don't feel good in open shoes. Is it ever gonna be the same? Thanks for your answer!
Avatar n tn I wanted to have some lab ran because my days between menstrual cycle was 20 days for 2 months in a row. Has since returned to normal. TSH is 0 (0.3-4.8), T3 is 119 (76-181), T4 is 1.2 (0.7-1.6), Thyroid Antibodies 262 (<35). Subclinical hyperthyroidism? No symptoms other than stalled weight loss. Only possible significant history is intentional weight loss over the past year of around 60lbs by healthy diet and cardio. Previous TSH 3 years ago was WNL. Again, I am asymptomatic.

4784361 tn?1401231107 Is it safe for me to be taking the diet pill Slimquick Pure while on a beta blocker for heart palpitations? I am a 21 year old female trying to lose weight while going through on and off stages of hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. I picked up a bottle of SlimQuick today because I've heard some really good things about it, but I was reading the reviews and something got me to rethink my decision.
Avatar n tn d be more inclined to suspect hyperthyroidism. So, it would be better to have the TSI test done. Here is a description of the test. Graves' disease can be diagnosed using Thyroid Receptor Antibodies (TRAb) / Thyroid-Stimulating Immunoglobulins (TSI). The presence of TRAb/TSI test can confirm Graves' disease, and while experts can't agree, it's thought that from 75 to 95 percent of all Graves' patients will test positive for these antibodies.
Avatar n tn Is this correct? So is this possibility indicating evidence of hyperthyroidism? Because with some of the symptoms I am currently having it would make a lot of sense.
2161029 tn?1337155404 Have you been tested for hyperthyroidism? That's one of the main causes of sudden weight loss. You should get TSH, Free T3 and Free T4 tested. You might also think about getting tested for diabetes.
Avatar f tn t lose weight with hyperthyroidism due to insulin resistance (high insulin means the body is in fat storing mode). I already had severe insulin resistance due to eating a high % of refined sugar in my diet (I do not overeat due to a poor appetite) but hyperthyroidism worsened my insulin resistance further and I also developed pre diabetes due to hyperthyroidism as well.
Avatar f tn My 14 month old cat had her only litter of kittens about 3 months ago. She went into heat one more time and then we had her fixed. Since then she has gotten really skinny and her hair seems to be thinning. She had long somewhat fluffy fur before and now it seems like she has had a hair cut. She is acting fine and seems to be eating normally.
929504 tn?1332585934 Just googled it as a big fan of baseball here in Australia and am friends with George Lombard and Pookie Wilson who played here a few years ago. Seems Hyperthyroidism is the issue but at first they thought he had taken a growth hormone because of the TSH being low. Also says hes had it for a few years so who knows? I just hope he gets it treated. Says nothing about Graves Disease and they usually test for that with Hyperthyroidism. Maybe he has it and was in remission.
Avatar f tn Any way that hyper is treated (surgery, I-131 or meds), weight loss of 10-15 pounds may occur but w/ careful attention to diet/exercise, this can be limited.
558632 tn?1303471125 My question is, while undergoing treatment for graves, is there a diet that helps? i have tried to lose to no avail. was going to try the atkins next? is it a no lose situation until i am either regulated or undergo RAI or a thyroidectomy? has anyone lose weight that is gaining with graves (instead of losing), or should i just watch what i eat deal with the 20 lbs gained and counting and wait until remiss, or one of the above.
Avatar n tn The added muscle will increase your metabolism which in turn will lead to increased consumption of calories per day to maintain that weight. You may consult a nutritionist and get a diet chart made which will provide you adequate calories in a healthy way. Avoid taking any supplements as they can be damaging to both your physical and mental health. If you are having a good diet and are free from any illness you should not be worried about your weight.
Avatar n tn I know I have a multi nodular goiter and the Dr. says that I am Hyperthyroidism. But for the past couple of months I'm not sure if it's anxiety attacks or nervousness or exactly what it is but at times I feel like I loose my mind. My stomach feels like I have butterflies all the time is this normal or am I crazy?
919799 tn?1246034066 I feel tired all the time and have seemed to put on 10 pounds in the last couple of weeks even tho I havent changed anything Iam eating less actually and work out about 2 hrs most days of the week.I recently lost over 75 pounds in the last couple of years with diet and exercise I sure dont want to gain it back!So this is now adding to the stress!!! Avatar m tn Radioactive iodine (RAI) is one of the treatments for hyperthyroidism. The primary risk of RAI is permanent hypothyroidism. Check out the article - "Can Hyperthyroid Patients Avoid Radioactive Iodine (RAI)" - By Mary Shomon.
Avatar n tn I have been taking birth control since 1st of February to regulate my periods. The pill in question is Maxim (ethinyl estradiol 0.03mg and 2mg dienogest). For the first month it was OK, no side effects other then some loss of libido. After talking with doc about it he changed it to another one with levonorgestrel instead of dienogest.
Avatar f tn I am at present taking selenium as well as on a super restrictive diet (as part of a SIBO treatment regimen) and after that is completed I plan on switching over to a diet with the intentions to help lower TPO ab more so (or at least, hopefully stop triggering them to produce more!) Also how long does it take to see changes in TPO ab levels?
Avatar n tn t feel right mixing it with all the meds, etc. Also I did a certain diet thinking it would help but...who knows? Some of it may have been psychological for me. Eating several almonds a day, getting cruciferous veggies, eating LIGHT snacks before bed, avoiding too much dairy, trying to eat plenty even when I don't feel like it. All I know is my symptoms seem worse when I don't eat much. It's tough when I don't have an appetite.
Avatar f tn She had blood taken and her gynecologist told her to get an appointment with a endocrinologist due to seeing low levels of TSH and telling her that she had hyperthyroidism. The total kelp intake has been 437mcg of iodine per day. This includes her multivitamin and the kelp supplement. In August she stopped eating soy products (she was having at least 2 servings a day) and traded that out for more traditional proteins (meat, fish) and cow's milk.
Avatar m tn The most common cause of anemia in a hyperthyroid patient will be anemia of chronic disease, the inability to efficiently produce hemoglobin from iron stores. The other possibility is anti-thyroid drug therapy. Diffuse body aches can be seen in both hyperthyroidism and has a reaction to antithyroid drugs.
Avatar f tn I am working with a holistic doctor now and will be attempting to treat the mild hyperthyroidism with herbs and diet changes. I am giving myself two months. If there is no change in my condition at that point, I will give in to the RAI. My questions are: 1)is th swelling and pain in my fingers, hands and wrists from hyperthyroidism or the methimazole? 2)Do any Endocrinologists believe in possibly using a combination of a lower dose of meds with herbs?
Avatar f tn Hi everyone! I'm hoping someone can relate or help me, give me advice on how to deal with some of the things I'm dealing with on a daily basis. I had my complete thyroid removed 11 years ago, at age 15, due to a goiter that was noncancerous, but causing hyperthyroidism. At that time, I weighed 120 lbs and was 5'10", so it was pretty obvious, I took in some days over 5,000 calories and was still losing weight.
