Common Questions and Answers about Diet of hypertension

diet

Avatar m tn look up info on the dash diet, which is a diet to stop high blood pressure. You might need medication if it does not come down. Are you under stress?
Avatar f tn Always best to eat a healthy diet but hypertension during pregnancy is not like regular hypertension which is diet related some of the time, but is a precursor to hypertension when someone gets older Glad you are doing better.
Avatar f tn It's possible that you have what they call "white coat hypertension" and its also possible to have real hypertension. Its disturbing that your dr just assumed you were a hypochondriac and gave you a powerful benzo to treat it. Drs dont normally put a patient on meds after just one high reading and so I wouldn't necessarily say he is wrong for not immediately putting you on blood pressure medication.
1324852 tn?1274769339 I do have a history of poor eating, and recently started eating less. My diet use to consist of Fast Food and a lot of unhealthy bags of chips. I would basically eat anything that taste good, especially hot cheetos. But I made a slight changed once I started to feel unwell, I would feel fatigue after big meals, and my pule would race to about 110bm, one day it went to about 120bpm without any straining physical activity. I try to walk everyday, and run every other day when I get a chance.
Avatar f tn (maybe your exercising intensity as increased or your diet has changed). Although 146/80 (+/- 3 points) does not seems to me a lot of hypertension, but because your have a heart problem you should check with your physician as this could a sign of something.
Avatar n tn A systolic pressure of 140 is classified as stage 1 hypertension. For that, one is usually advised to try lifestyle modifications (smoking cessation, alcohol moderation, sodium restriction, the DASH diet, increased moderate exercise, etc) to bring it down. A diastolic pressure of 56 is lower than average, but as long as you are asymptomatic it is not a problem.
Avatar m tn The first thing that might be recommended to you would be lifestyle modifications, since you are just at the border of hypertension. That's mean diet and exercise, of course. The diet part would mean the "DASH Diet", which you can easily find online. A primer on hypertension is at the American Heart Association somewhere. For exercise, you'd probably want to be cleared by a doctor first.
Avatar m tn Thanks Dr Schiano, I am taking Amlodipine for hypertension as part of post surgery medication. Can I occasionally indulge in a relatively high sodium meal? You can tell I am a salt lover.

Avatar n tn For me now being cured of hep c (which caused my cirrhosis) my labs are all normal with the exception of my platelet count which is still low because of my portal hypertension caused by cirrhosis. I have a small amount of ascities only visible on ultrasound and a small amount of edema. I had varicies that needed banding back in 2012 but they were not bleeding. They have not reoccurred since then.
Tbd Hi there. Sodium or salt is one of those tricky things in that there is so much in our food that we may not even know. Secret salt, I call it. A can of tomatoes or a can of soup can be very high in sodium! To answer your question, 200 mg of salt a day is not too much. Actually the guideline from the American Heart Association is up to 2300 mg of salt a day! Now, that's the upper range of being 'okay' and you should check with your doctor for where they want you to be.
Avatar n tn Cut all sugar and salt from your diet right away. You should begin loging your blood pressure three times a day so you can get a daily average www.bpchronicle.com can help you with this. You need to do every thing you can to get your pressure to acceptable levels. Take Care.

20910642 tn?1627445346 The DASH diet is proven to be helpful for hypertension. Mediterranean diet is similar to DASH. Maybe instead of three square meals, eat 5 smaller meals? But overall, I know it is concerning to have blood pressure issues and at a young age. It legitimately makes us worried about the future. But as you know, since you take medication for anxiety, worry in itself can have a negative impact. You are doing all that you can and care about your health. So, take peace in that.
