Common Questions and Answers about Diet of high blood pressure

diet

Avatar m tn The first thing that might be recommended to you would be lifestyle modifications, since you are just at the border of hypertension. That's mean diet and exercise, of course. The diet part would mean the "DASH Diet", which you can easily find online. A primer on hypertension is at the American Heart Association somewhere. For exercise, you'd probably want to be cleared by a doctor first.
Avatar f tn All my doctor said was to have a low sodium diet. Anyone else that can relate or has an issue with high blood pressure ?
Avatar n tn At times my bood pressure usually in the eary am to l60 / 85 my normal blood pressure is 125/73. Heart doctor says most of vessels look pretty clean; chest exray reveals plaque build up in the aorta. Can this be reversed or improved by diet as in Ornish diet.
Avatar n tn For example, eighteen percent of people with high blood pressure can reduce the pressure by taking simple calcium supplements. That study was funded by a company manufacturing calcium-channel blockers, for whom I worked briefly two decades ago. A long, long time ago, when Obama was a gleam in his father's eye, I worked in college in a behavioral science lab and we experimented with use of conditioning to reduce blood pressure.
Avatar m tn Fasting blood sugar should be under 100 and this may signify some organ damage due to high blood pressure or just indicate a really bad diet for a really long time Good luck, Jon
Avatar f tn It depends. High blood pressure can have many etiologies. The reason for the high blood pressure must be determined. Unfortunately, in modern medicine, physicians jump to prescribe a pill. A certain percentage of patients (as many as ten percent) can solve their blood pressure problems by a D3 supplement and adding calcium to their diet. Those test results came from a study involving a thousand patients from a company seeking a new drug application for calcium channel blockers.
Avatar f tn 1. those with too much fluid in their system 2. those with contraction of the arterioles forcing the pressure to rise 3. those with a high heart rate forces pressure to increase. Someone can also have a combination of these problems as well. So without additional info I cannot say if diet, lifestyle changes, or medication is what she needs. I can tell you this: you must take care of it as high blood pressure slowly destroys all end organs (brain, liver, kidneys, heart, lungs).
698356 tn?1240150727 As far as living a healthy lifestyle I've got it. I haven't been able to exercise as much as I wanted while I was incredibly fatigued, but I'm picking that back up. The thing is that for nearly a year I've had blood pressure that is all over the place. I think it was 140/105 at the dentist on Thursday. It's got to be secondary in nature. I'm 26, eat incredibly healthy, have good weight and BMI (I'm a size 2 or 4). I can't go on blood pressure meds.
Avatar m tn While taking medications, you can do other techniques to regulate your pressure and bring down the dosage of the medicine slowly. Many times high pressure may be a symptom of some problems with kidney, brain, heart, arteries, or cholesterol levels. You should do a thorough check up of all these and find out the real source of the symptom.
Avatar m tn I do think that continued high blood pressure can cause kidney problems. You've had this going on for quite awhile now so it's time to do something about it. Most Drs will do nothing if ***'s below 139/89, because it's pre hypertension and they want you to try and control with it with less stress, diet and exercise. But 160/100 is hypertension. Solace gives you great advice. Get more reading so they can take an average.

Avatar f tn So I had a doctors app today , nd all of a sudden the nurses nd doctors tell me my blood pressure high , so now I find myself in labor and delivery being monitored
Avatar m tn t worry about that until you see what your average blood pressure is. The blood sugar of 117 in the evening after a large buffet meal sounds pretty normal to me. One more thing: if your physical activity was enough to stimulate your body to produce some adrenalin, your blood pressure could have been caused by adrenalin. So you probably should try a relaxed, RESTING blood pressure test instead of one after a very active evening and see how it is.
Avatar f tn Hi im only 28 years old but my blood pressure is to high 150/100 160/110. I had tested my blood and electrolytes and they were all normal. My echo cardiogram is also normal. My doctor said its essential hyper tension. How can i deal withit? Im takinh amlodiphine 5mg once a day every morning.
Avatar n tn Read the prescription of the medicine you are taking. Birth control pills could cause some problems especially if you are 35+, smoking, over weight, not active, bad diet, or if you already have blood circulation problems. Before you start taking them you need to make sure you are healthy. And you need to get detailed instructions from the doctor who prescribed you these pills, let him know about you symptoms.
Avatar f tn My nurse told me my blood pressure was high and to lay off salty foods which I don't think I eat much of anyway but I'm wondering if there are any symptoms I should be on the lookout for I'm 35 wks today.
Avatar m tn One last thing is exercising. Walking has been proved to control the level of cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar and even improve asthma. A 30 minutes walk daily should keep you healthy and highly spirited.
