diabetes

1399124 tn?1401020004 This is my second pregnancy with gestational diabetes. I am on a very strict diet that my local diabetes education class provided and monitor my sugar 4 times a day. I have just started on a medication at night. For some of us the further along you are the more insulin resistance you have.
279230 tn?1259923903 s appointment yesterday to get results of bloodwork and my glucose test. I have gestational diabetes. My blood pressure is also still rising (160-90 yesterday). I also have low potassium and elevated creatine. He gave me a prescription for potassium and now I have to monitor blood sugar and blood pressure at home and be on a diabetic diet. I also have to see him once a week now. On the plus side, I do get to have more ultrasounds now, and the baby looked fine yesterday.
Avatar n tn Definitely read up on gestational diabetes (do an search online, there are many good sites, including the American Diabetes Association and National Institutes of Health) and if you possibly can, go with your wife to her appointment for her diabetes education. With a consistent carbohydrate diet and exercise, your wife's gestational diabetes can be controlled and the risks to her and the baby minimized. Best wishes to you and your family.
Avatar f tn Do any of you ladies have gestational diabetes or have had it before in the past? This is my first child and I am frantic at this point to hear i have gestational diabetes. Devastating news to me. How did you guys handle this type of news?
Avatar f tn ORG it is the web site for the american diabetes accociation. On the left side of the page it has a link for nutrition, it has recipies and also the groceries you want to get and eat.. there are many resources there..
Avatar n tn Was your first trimester blood test ok? Maybe your iron is low, you have anemia. Or you could be developing high sugar in blood. I was like that in my second trimester, my feet were swollen.. It turned out I had gestational diabetes. After being diagnosed, I started a diet and exercise and I've been feeling just great! More energy than before getting pregnant :) Anyways, talk to your doctor about it.
Avatar f tn He gave me a controlled diet menu and wants me to go by that for 1 week to see if my sugars come down, but that is the diet I have been following for 3 months now because in my heart I new I was diabetic. So my question is I am 24 weeks and could I have damaged my baby with my blood sugars being in the 140's 2 hours after a meal. I think I have been diabetic from the beginning but those stupid nurses said I was ok.
97615 tn?1212678589 I have just recently been diagnosed w/ gestational diabetes. I know its only temporary but I have some questions while I am dealing w/ this. My heart goes out to all that have it. Although it runs in my family and I watch my grandma taking care of it I never realized how serious it can be and how hard to maintain til it came to be my illness. I am having trouble w/ the eating part.
429164 tn?1321558847 Anyone else been diagnosed with gestational diabetes? This is my 2nd pregnancy and I wasn't offered the glucose tolerance test with my first. I am only borderline but finding it a tad difficult to gauge my carb and sugar intake. Getting a little nervous about risks tho and being induced-they're currently saying they'll induce me a week early.
Avatar f tn No but b glad... means ur diet is working.
Avatar f tn It's very normal. I have gestational diabetes and I've gained 12 pounds and I'm almost 36 weeks pregnant. If you're following your diet, that's why you're not gaining a ton of weight. Only be concerned if your doctor is.
Avatar f tn I do with this pregnancy. Mine is diet controlled. Most likely it will go away after delivery.
Avatar f tn Yep. I have gestational diabetes, am controlling my diet (cutting down on carbs and therefore sugars), taking tablets 3 times a day and injecting insulin in my stomach 4 times a day. As the previous poster said it can mean a much bigger baby and even possibly a c section whether you want one or not. I recommend sticking to a very strict diet if you ate diagnosed with diabetes or gestational diabetes.
Avatar f tn Also, if you do the three hour test and its determined you have gestational diabetes, the doc will put you on a diet. You can look up a diet plan on the Internet and save time and money. I don't think there are meds to control this either. I have cut out a lot of sweets from my diet. I actually feel a lot better. I felt weak and tired a lot before. I guess this was partly why.
Avatar f tn So I was just diagnosed with gestational diabetes today. I've never been a diabetic before I got pregnant, but it does run in my family. What can I eat. And do I have to give up on foods I crave like I do crave sweets. Also will my baby be ok ?
Avatar f tn Did your doctor schedule an appointment for you with a nutritionist? They will be able to help you with the diet. I followed my diet strictly and my DD is now 11 and perfect.
Avatar f tn I just started a diet. I failed my first hour, passed the third. Had to retake and failed again...so Diet and blood sugar checks are now my life. Just started this week. My struggle is finding recipes so I dont get board eating the same things all the time. This is my first...
8959643 tn?1418549184 ( dr is going to send me to a diabetes specialist and a high risk Dr to see more testing of the baby heart! I feel so bad I just want my little guy health... I just want too cry!!!
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed at 30wks I am now 32 and I also check my blood 4times a day. After I met with a nurtionist I had a good idea what can raise my sugar. I still struggle a little but I've only been on this diet for 2weeks. So hopefully I can control it.
Avatar f tn I don't have diet advice besides just be smart and try to limit sugars and fats. I had to take the 3-hour test too, but I passed. Don't stress out too much about needing to change your diet because of one blood draw.
Avatar f tn I have gestational diabetes and was put on a diet and also insulin. Doctor didn't want me taking pills to control it. I check my levels 4 times a day and take insulin 4 times a day. They are small dosage but it helps the baby maintain her levels. She is measuring slightly bigger than her age. Best part is I see her often with ultrasounds. All in all nothing to be afraid about. We as mothers will do what we have to do to take care of our bodies for our unborn. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn ll go away after pregnancy. Gestational diabetes can cause your child to be a little on the bigger side, but that doesn't happen to everyone.
Avatar f tn I'm 31 weeks today and jus got diagnosed with gestational diabetes and I'm literally freaking out! I'm so scared and nervous:( a dietician is suppose to call me sometime today to set up an apt. Anyone have any advice on what's to come? And whats gonna happen at this dietician apt?
Avatar f tn I did my glucose test at 28 weeks. I'm now 31 weeks and got a letter from my OB saying they want to talk to me about my results and she said they wouldn't contact me unless something was wrong. What are the risks for my baby or for me with having gestational diabetes? If you've had it let me know what happened please?
Avatar f tn If anyone has been diagnosed with gestational diabetes, they needs to follow a sugar restricted diet, rice, sweets, high caloric foods and fruits like mango. They can take chapatis, vegetables, salads, apple, citrus fruits, Marie biscuits or digestive biscuits.
6674791 tn?1396215150 Your ob will ask you to talk to a dietitian. They will come up with a diet for you to follow closely. They will teach you how to use a glucose machine. ( pricking your finger and testing your blood sugar ) as long as you control your diet and keep your sugar levels good then all will be good. If diet and exercise doesn't work they will send you to a diabetes doctor. I had gestational diabetes with my first pregnancy. I controlled it very well.
Avatar f tn s suddenly giving me these high numbers. Also if anyone knows of any sites with meal plans for gestational diabetes that'd be very helpful.
