Avatar f tn When I began reading your post, the first thing I thought of was kidneys, and when I read your last paragraph, it confirmed this idea, that you should be evaluated by a diabetes doc. It also could be you have some kind of metabolic issue going on, where your body isn't absorbing some nutrients as it should, which will throw your whole chemistry off, which a geneticist often will look at that possibility.
278469 tn?1219245951 After being diagnosed with Diabetes I have become addicted to the Diet Soda, Light Yogurt, sugarless gum, etc. I am new to this (Epilepsy) forum and had never considered that this could aid in the occurance of seizures. When reading your comment I thought about the fact that I do suffer some memory loss. I have to endure the grand mal seizures and take both Depakote & Phenobarbital. My license has been revoked (Thank God) once my seizures began to occur while awake.
Avatar m tn Wow, you appear perplexed on how to managing your diabetes yet you come across as having the knowledge. We get many posters with their diabetes running amok because they do little to practice self-control or practice what they already know. I hope you take my comments in a positive constructive manner. "i need to manage my sugar better." Translated: It's hard to give up my sweets and deserts. A: Try using a sugar substitute like Splenda. Find sugar free alternatives if you must.
Avatar f tn You will be fine hun. You may be able to control it with diet. The dietician will give you goals and ideas on how to change your diet. They may also give you a glucometer and show you how to properly use it. I have type 2 diabetes and as long as I am not pregnant I can control it with diet alone. If you have any questions you can email me on here.
1399124 tn?1401020004 This is my second pregnancy with gestational diabetes. I am on a very strict diet that my local diabetes education class provided and monitor my sugar 4 times a day. I have just started on a medication at night. For some of us the further along you are the more insulin resistance you have.
Tbd Hi, depending how long you have had diabetes, and your overall condition, losing weight and changing your diet to a strict low carb diet / keto diet, could possibly put your diabetes into remission or at worst make it very much easier to manage. The principle of low carb diet is restricting carbs, particularly all grains, sugars, starchy veges and sweet fruits, and eating a diet that focusses more on protein, low carb plant foods (veges and non-sweet fruits), some nuts, and healthy fats.
Avatar f tn Does anyone have gestational diabetes? How does it affect you? I failed my test so I have a 3 hour test this week to do but I was wondering if anyone has it and what you have to do to keep your levels normal, my family line is full of diabetes and so it knew it might catch up to me. This it's our 3rd pregnanacy and it's been really stressful and nd scary for me. Do any of you have to treat with insulin? Does it hurt the baby to have it etc. I'm just kinda scared.
Avatar n tn I am not a physican, but the mom of a type 1 diabetic and the daughter of a type 2. I have a cholesterol problem. I can tell you that my daughter doctor does check her constantly for high cholesterol, one when I questioned him about it he told me that food is only a factor 50% of the time. High cholesterol can be hereditary. When was told I had high cholesterol, my doctor wanted to but me on pills, i was not good at talking them, so I tried the type of diets you suggest.
Avatar f tn All the veggies you want. Protein heavy - I've been eating lots of celery with peanut butter, cottage cheese with berries, salads with chicken... You'll have a limit on how many carbs per meal and per snack but you don't have to cut them out entirely (so I can still make fajitas because the tortillas are fairly low in carbs, and I can still have rice with my stir fry as long as I pay attention to amounts).
Avatar f tn If so how long did you have to get the twice a week blood draws and did diet alone help or did they give you pills or insulin shots. also does anyone have any good ideas for meals?
Avatar n tn That said, there are also different sources for diabetic diet plans which you can check out. One is the American Diabetes Association's website (www.diabetes.org), which has plenty of nutritional information, including diet plans and recipes. Here is what they say on their website regarding diet plans for diabetics: " diabetes meal plan is a guide that tells you how much and what kinds of food you can choose to eat at meals and snack times.
Avatar f tn You must look at various causes of obesity—rich diet, lack of exercise, adrenal gland problems, hypothyroid state, diabetes etc. Is diabetes too ruled out? What about other endocrine functions like that of adrenal glands. Also you could be having autoimmune thyroid disease, hence should test for thyroid antibody. Hope this helps. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
2186195 tn?1339430622 I saw the nutritionist and she gave me a diet to follow. she gave me ideas on what foods to eat, but basically said I can eat anything just watch the carbs. I am supposed to eat 30carbs for breakfast, 60carbs for lunch and dinner, and 3 snacks that are 30carbs each. I am to check my blood sugar 4 times a day, and it should stay between 60-90 in the morning and 90-120 all day. Well when I got my test results in the first place, i had just BARELY failed them by about 5-10 points or less.

Avatar n tn Hi Dgrann, Type 2 diabetes is one of the many diseases that is curable. A lot of lifestyle factors can contribute to Type 2 diabetes. If you want to reverse your diabetes, you need to take a lifestyle change. Change your diet. Most people that I've known who have reversed their type 2 diabetes are still FREE from the disease. They just change their diet as well as their lifestyle. Also doing some cardio and weights lifting helps a lot. Cheers!
Avatar f tn Give it a few days on the diet they gave you. You'll do fine. And just remember gd goes away after baby comes!
1666434 tn?1325262350 t find many lists of food or ideas of combinations. Especially when it comes to gestational diabetes prevention. For example they say watch your fruit intake.... well how much is safe, how much is not? How many servings a day should I consider ok to have? Sorry for so many questions just learning as much as I can.
Avatar m tn She was diagnosed with type 1 and 11 diabetes a year ago. Since then she has been put on long lasting and fast acting insulin in massive doses but they do not keep her blood sugars down. She is constantly in ketoacidosis and has been admitted to AMU at least 6 times, only just escaping death each time. She is half the body weight she was a year ago and for a 45 year woman of 5feet tall she now weights just over 6 stone.
Avatar n tn In addition after starting the pump and following a low carb diet I lost 35lbs the first year without really trying. It was merely counting the carbs I was eating and making sure the insulin dose corresponded to the food. I must admit that I did not eat a lot of carbs because my control was so much better without them. And with better control I felt so much better so that was my motivation. I hope this gives you some inspiration to try the pump. I truly believe you will be glad you did.
687079 tn?1230948612 Unfortunately, it sounds like youd diabetes is not under control. I don't understand why your doctor doesn't believe this. If you get highs and lows despite your attempt to control your diet and exercise, it sounds as though you need further treatment such as oral medications. The lows are just a part of the cycle of uncontrolled diabetes: you go high and then you crash. I hadn't eaten sugar for 14 years when I was diagnosed with out of control diabetes!
Avatar f tn Trying changing diet a little and see if it helps but I am also noticing with mine as well since I was about 30 weeks mine has been climbing up even tho I did change my diet. My doc said it could be due to the anxiety most new mommys get when this close to delivery.. but she has me keeping an eye on it as well. As far as little one is concerned he will probably be checked when born and they can thru withdrawal when born..
Avatar f tn Through trial and error with trying various fad diets (a plantbased diet which made me weak and exhausted to Low carb high fat diet Im currently on)I have lowered the A1c from 5.7 in Aug 2020 to 5.1 in Feb 2021. My problem is knowing what to eat on a daily basis. Id love to eat more choices but stick with 3 diff proteins, low carb veg, no fruit, little to no dairy, no grains. I keep losing weight. I was always around 130 at 5.7 inches and now 108 lbs.
