Avatar f tn Hi, I posted this question in the Cirrhosis forum, but I thought maybe I'd post it here too, since many members of the Hep C forum also have Cirrhosis. I have a question about an anti-inflammatory medication called Diclofenac for a person with Cirrhosis.
653169 tn?1303446369 I tried Mobic and Nabumatone and had problems with upset stomach and headache. In addition to Fibromyalgia I also have arthritis in my spine and shoulder, so I take it for that and I can't live without it. Ibuprofen and Naproxen doesn't even touch the inflammation and pain.
Avatar f tn Yes, I do use this medication, however my RA doc has me make it up into a cream and use it topically instead of swallowing them and risking stomach and intestinal damage. Diclofenac is a rather old, but good good antinflamatory NSAID medication that really can ruin your stomach which is why they don't prescribe it much anymore. I know it may sound strange but it works really well.
Avatar f tn Question. I have started taking Diclofenac 75mg x's 2 a day to try and see if a non narcotic medication may give me some relief long term with my rib pain. I have taken it for 2 weeks and at first I didn't think it was helping at all. Now I think 1 of 2 things either A) it's starting to build up in my system and is helping better or B) My ribs just happen to feel a bit better lately.
Avatar n tn i have taken diclofenac for over 20 years with no side effects i have had to come off the tablets 75mg x twice day 4 days ago as I am showing some drying of kidneys from another mediation to ensure it is that one i have come off anything whih might affect me.
Avatar m tn I think I need the strong stuff like diclofenac and B12 and b6. There is a pills called OKA B that I use to take when having muscle pain and it took pains away. But I've heard that diclofenac is not good to take during tx. Has anyone taken diclofenac during tx or is it too bad for the liver.
1204528 tn?1588786333 You are correct. The usual interactions suggest a decrease in levels of the other drugs taken with carbamazepine. Try searching for 'carbamazepine metabolism' and 'diclofenac metabolism'. It shows that both meds are metabolized by CYP3A4. Diclofenac may decrease levels of CYPA4 (search 'diclofenac inactivation CYP3A4); this could potentially lead to increased levels of carbamazepine.
Avatar n tn The effects of cholestyramine and colestipol on the absorption of diclofenac in man.Colestipol produces a similar but smaller effect. Though some information charts say that it should be used with caution in patients with Diabetes,it refers to underlying conditions as renal failure, hepatic impairment,IBS,stroke, clotting problems, asthma, allergies, CD/colitis,HTN,smoking,High LDL/HDL etc are present in your history. So donot worry about anything.
Avatar f tn s inflamed tendons and prescribed Diclofenac soldium XR, an anti-inflammatory, twice a day. Wondering if this drug is safe for him to take given hepatitis and Cirrhosis. He has a call back into the PCP to double check before taking it, and I have a call in to his hepatologist to double check before taking it. While waiting for calls back from PCP or hepatologist, wondering if anyone on this forum may know the answer?
Avatar n tn //www.drugs.com/voltaren-gel.html. Diclofenac is voltaren and the gel contains the Nsaid. This information states clearly that aspirin should not be used at the same time. Normally, blood thinners are also not used with Nsaids. So, speak with your doctor, of course, but would advise not to use these together based on the provided information.
Avatar f tn There may be reasons why, for you, she is suspecting the Diclofenac and not the other. Give her a call and ask. Let us know what happens. I'm glad you're feeling better though - it must have all been pretty scary. I have allergies to some meds, but it's all skin reactions, not breathing stuff. I imagine that's terrifying.
681148 tn?1437661591 but Shanna707 and I were just talking about Diclofenac. I have had trouble too with a lot of NSAIDs and stomach upset and Diclofenac seems to be one I can tolerate and it really helps my shoulder pain. If that isn't an option, you could get a steroid shot? I have a couple of other tips: use a roller ball mouse for your computer so you are not moving your arm. You just move your thumb. It takes about a day or two to get used to, but it helps a lot.
Avatar m tn I am a fast bike rider, since after I have donated I am not able to ride for longer periods I am facing numbness sensation on my palms and below the butt, is this because of donating platelets, also I am facing excessive hair loss. As suggested I will avoid ASA and NSAIDs for the rest of my life.
Avatar n tn I have red/brown freckles on my lower legs and ankles. Have been on diclofenac potassium for a year for a torn meniscus. Could that have caused those spots?
Avatar f tn Diclofenac is not an opiate and I have not seen anything indicating that it is addictive. This particular preparation is enteric coated, so it helps against stomach upset. It is part of the NSAID drug class and is an anti inflammatory. It is stronger than Aleive or Advil, so requires a prescription.
Avatar m tn The FDA just announced that dicoflenac gel (brand name Voltaren Gel) often prescribed for arthritis pain is linked to severe liver damage and it can happen within the first month of use According to the FDA, this topical gel has been reported to cause liver necrosis (death of liver cells), jaundice, and liver failure some cases of which have required liver transplant and some that have been fatal! Despite these horrible side effects, dicoflenac gel remains on the market.
1118724 tn?1357010591 Cirrhosis can be quantified by liver biopsy as well as biochemical markers like platelets, bilirubin, albumin, INR and others. Also to some extent through imaging; U/S scan, for instance can determine organ dimensions, portal vein diameter, proper flow through the portal tract, etc. As far as expressing the damage, of course they use the terms ‘compensated’ and ‘decompensated’. This can also be expressed by the Child-Turcotte-Pugh scale: http://en.wikipedia.
473384 tn?1210206242 I have severe OA in my left hip and am scheduled for THR on monday. I am taking oxycontin and percocet (60-90mgs oxy/day and 15-20 mgs perc/day, depending) and have been on these for 1 year (I started with 1 percocet/day, HA! like that was going to last!). 6 months ago I started taking diclofenac (an NSAID) and apparantly it works REALLY WELL for pain b/c I am supposed to stop taking it 7-10 days before surgery b/c of bleeding issues.
Avatar m tn I do have historically low platelets. Does this proclude me from treating the HEP C?
1704618 tn?1307528771 I am facing dizzyness and fainting problem for the last 2 weeks. i consulted with my dr. he says the i have swelling in my inner ear (vestabular system). he prescribed me "VOLTAGESIC 50. Avatar f tn Doctor told me today that the liver will heal and as it does the spleen will decrease in size and platelets will increase. It was mentioned on here that they will not happen that scar tissue will develop and I can expect not to get my platelet count to a level that I will feel good again. anyone have any knowledge why I would be getting conflicting opinions or is this just a wait and see game I'll have to play??? Thanks in advance and wishing everyone good health...
Avatar m tn This is a varicocele surgery on his testicles. He had a high fever a few hours ago. I injected diclofenac 75mg in his muscle due to his request. After that, I read about something like "Do not take diclofenac at least 7 days before a surgery". This is about the risk of bleeding, right? So, if his surgeon say that it will be ok, can we trust him? I'm freaking out. Please tell me what should I do. Thanks a lot.
Avatar m tn I just got my 10 week cbc results and would love some input mainly about platelets. I assume I need less or no neupogen also. Plates - started at 149,000, now they are 45,000. How low can they safely go? Is there anything that drug that can improve your platelet count? Can it bounce back on it's own? is it at a dangerous level currently? ANC was at 280 4 weeks ago, 710 2 weeks ago and over 6000 2 days ago. I have taken neupogen once per week for 4 weeks. HGB- started at 14.8 now 10.
Avatar m tn It appears that you may have cirrhosis of the liver with portal hypertension which causes low platelet counts and and enlarged spleen. You probably have many other complications of cirrhosis you are not aware of because they are not easy to detect. If this is the case you need to get help at a liver transplant center ASAP before your liver disease progresses further and becomes irreversible.
Avatar m tn Low platelets in hep C patients usually indicate late stage disease. My platelets were low and my doctor told me it was because of cirrhosis from hep C. Once treated and cured my platelets rose but never reached normal again. Doctors normally don't worry about low platelets until they fall below 50,000.
