My 59 year old husband, Hep C+ diagnosed in 2007, F-4 Cirrhosis diagnosed in 2010, compensated liver (last blood work was in July, 2012, and he has never had ascites, varices, or hepatic encephalopathy), and failed three Hep C treatments in past 5 years (last failure was triple tx w/Incivek stopped treatment mid-April, 2012 due to viral breakthrough), not currently on treatment.
Question: He has had pain and selling on forearm recently.
5 MG / 3 Tablet a day / To lower urine acid
Allopurinol Tablet 100 MG / 2 Tablet a day / To lower urine acid
Diclofenac Sodium Slow Release Tab 100 MG/ 1 Tablet a day / Pain Kill
I have been searching internet about the drug interaction with Truvada, I found few studies talking about Kidney Failure risk of taking truvada with diclofenac, I am not sure if the studies are confident or not.
Can you kindly advise if I can still take the above medicines ?

I would definitely not take it!
Yes, I do use this medication, however my RA doc has me make it up into a cream and use it topically instead of swallowing them and risking stomach and intestinal damage. Diclofenac is a rather old, but good good antinflamatory NSAID medication that really can ruin your stomach which is why they don't prescribe it much anymore.
I know it may sound strange but it works really well.
Avoid potent ones like indomethacin and diclofenac since there is increased risk of kidney and heart failure. Opioids like co-codamol and hydrocodne may be required if severe pain is there and intracranial lesions are ruled out. eye and ear on the right need to be evaluated since this could be a referred pain. a brain MRI needs to be done to rule out any intracranial lesions or aneurysm. I was put on antibiotics for a week on day 4 and booked in for an ultra sound. I was also given diclofenac to help with the pain. Avo upper data later the pain did not get better. I went back to the doctors and they weren't sure it was a kidney stone. Occasionally pain worsened on some days. Was prescribed codeine for when I needed it. I continued having pain and was signed off work. I only had fever on day 2. Had my ultrasound and nothing was found: no stones, no cysts or swelling.
Hi, I posted this question in the Cirrhosis forum, but I thought maybe I'd post it here too, since many members of the Hep C forum also have Cirrhosis. I have a question about an anti-inflammatory medication called Diclofenac for a person with Cirrhosis.
The FDA just announced that dicoflenac gel (brand name Voltaren Gel) often prescribed for arthritis pain is linked to severe liver damage and it can happen within the first month of use
According to the FDA, this topical gel has been reported to cause liver necrosis (death of liver cells), jaundice, and liver failure some cases of which have required liver transplant and some that have been fatal!
Despite these horrible side effects, dicoflenac gel remains on the market.

My problem is that i am 20 years old and i applayed for being a pilot in the emirates airlines, i passed all the exams but they asked me to get rid of the kidney stones and i got like one month as a chance. thats why i am in a hurry.

Though some information charts say that it should be used with caution in patients with Diabetes,it refers to underlying conditions as renal failure, hepatic impairment,IBS,stroke,clotting problems,asthma, allergies, CD/colitis,HTN,smoking,High LDL/HDL etc are present in your history.

The two things that pop into my head when an older animal starts to drink excessively and urinate in the house are kidney failure and diabetes, although there can be other reasons. A trip to the vet is definitely in order ASAP. If you catch it early, kidney failure is something that an animal can live comfortable with for quite a few years, so don't panic.
I lost my dog in August of 2006 from kidney failure. She was lethargic and had no appetite, so I took her to the vet. He thought she could recover with iv fluids, etc. and so she spent 4 days at the vet clinic. She didn't like other dogs or the vet, so I still feel bad that this is where she spent the last few days of her life. In the end they couldn't do anything for her so I had her put to sleep. My 6 year 10 month Russian Blue male cat was diagnosed 2 weeks ago with kidney failure. His only symptons were a bout of vomiting and lethargy. His blood work was quite elevated, BUN 83mg/dl, CREA 5.1mg/dl, PHOS 8.8mg/dl. He has been given fluids twice and we have been giving him Azodyl capsules twice a day. Also sprinkling Epikatin on his food twice a day. We have been trying to transition him to renal diet with not a lot of success.
Renal anomalies could be responsible for decreased or deranged renal function and may lead to renal failure. One working kidney is enough for normal functions of the body. It would be difficult to comment if your other symptoms could be related. I would suggest discussing the situation and the suggested management plan in detail with your treating nephrologist.
