Avatar n tn diaphragmatic hernia when born, repair of the diaphragmatic hernia, intestinal adhesions, flundoplacation, and hitial hernia. They said for now it doesn't show any sign of strangulation or getting worse. So my question is should I still try for a baby or will this hernia cause me a lot of issues with pregnancy?
Avatar m tn I am a 58 year old male. Two CAT scans show a diaphragmatic hernia on the left side. My stomach is basically under my left breastbone. I have some breathing issues but thought most of those were due to being about 30 pounds overweight. Other than that I had no idea this problem existed. The surgeon said surgery will be through the back, cutting the muscle and putting in a material to hold everything in place. He has only performed 4 or 5 of these surgeries in his 15 year career.
Avatar f tn What a diaphragmatic hernia is, is a hole in the diaphragm that allows the stomach/bowel contents to protrude up into the lung cavity (almost always on the left side). If the hernia is small, and the lung can develop fairly normally, then the prognosis is good. If the hernia is large, sometimes the lung can't develop well, and even the heart can be pushed over to the wrong side of the chest. This can be more serious.
Avatar m tn Well, according to the research I've done , a diaphragmatic hernia is where the diaphram doesn't fully form correctly and there's a hole in it or no diaphram at all... usually it's just a hole. They think many things cause it... genetics (it does NOT mean another baby would have it necessarily) and environment. there would be only a %2 of a future child having it. it's fairly common, 1:2500 births... (my skin problem is 1:300,000..
Avatar m tn A genetic counselor will review the history and provide a more accurate recurrence risk assessment for diaphragmatic hernia in your family. The genetic counselor would also be able to discuss the benefits and limitations of any appropriate tests before and during your next pregnancy. You can find a genetic counselor at the National Society of Genetic Counseling website or through companies like mine, AccessDNA. You can also find information about diaphragmatic hernia at AccessDNA.
Avatar m tn Isolated congenital diaphragmatic hernia is rarely inherited. In almost all cases, there is only one affected individual in a family. When congenital diaphragmatic hernia occurs as a feature of a genetic syndrome or chromosomal abnormality, it may cluster in families according to the inheritance pattern for that condition.
942162 tn?1245428214 The risks of a diaphragmatic hernia depend on the size of the hernia. If it's large, chances are internal organs will eventually find their way through the hole and become strangulated, leading to emergency surgery to save the pet's life. If it's small, the pet can go its entire life and live a normal number of years and never have a problem with it. I don't know why it would cost thousands of dollars to repair, however.
Avatar m tn after 22 years ago a tractor accidient a (traumatic diaphragmatic hernia) pain on the left side which had previously came clear with x-rays and US's. Any help would be really greatful?
Avatar n tn Does it mean that there is a large enough opening or breach in the diaphragmatic opening for this to happen? How will a Gastroscopy determine the size of the diaphragmatic hiatal opening if all is in its correct position during gastroscopy ie. will they be able to tell if the stomach has been rolling upward? I'm confused about all this to say the least! Can you cast any light on the why's and wherefores of this occurence?
Avatar n tn Can you provide some more informtaion? Is it a hiatus hernia/ traumatic diaphragmatic/ Congenital hernia? How you came to know about DIPHRAGMATIC HERNIA/ (because it is not a clinical diagnosis we need investigations to confirm). What all investigations (Ba meal/ CT scan/ X ray etc) are done. A diagphragmatic herniea can present with: Breathlessness/ pain/ bowel symptoms like bloating of abdomen, constipation/ burning sensation in chest (heart burns) etc.
Avatar n tn Hi, diaphragmatic hernia is a defect or hole in the diaphragm that allows the abdominal contents to move into the chest cavity. If the hernia is large, it can cause compressive symptoms and lead to breathlessness. And if this occurs it may need to be surgically corrected. And yes a gastroenterologist is the specialist to deal with these hernias. So, good luck.
Avatar n tn X-rays are also used for external protrusions when the doctor suspects the presence of a body organ in the hernia. Since internal hernias often share similar symptoms with other unrelated medical conditions, it is important to confirm the diagnosis before implementing any form of treatment. A common type of X-ray would be the multi detector CT (MDCT), which can clearly show the contents of the sac and its exact anatomical location.
Avatar n tn how big is a 38.
Avatar f tn There is condition, congenital diaphragmatic hernia and is usually a disorder of the newborn period, as many as 10% of patients may present after the newborn period and even during adulthood. Outcome in patients with late presentation of congenital diaphragmatic hernia is extremely good, with low or no mortality. With this condition the left side may appear larger than the right side and rapid heartbeat is also a symptom.
Avatar m tn We went for our second ultrasound and it was noted that the stomach is high up in the chest cavity and the heart is pushed over to the right side. It says that Diaphragmatic Hernia is a consideration. It also notes everything else is normal. Our doctor who is a midwife told us we will have to deliver the baby somewhere else, because there are insufficent facilities here locally.
Avatar n tn If by chance at the back of your mind you ever feel surgery may be necessary, then leaving a good gap between his neuter surgery and possible hernia surgery should be fine for him.
Avatar f tn I didnt think of hiv by that time and after 9 weeks past our last exposure i got a routine hiv test for pregnant woman and it was negative but during that time i started having i big rash on my back, neck and chest lasted for about 2 months and at 31 weeks into the pregnancy i had to get a abortion cause my baby had a Congenital diaphragmatic hernia so the doctors told us almost no chance of survival so my question are 1.does a hiv test at 9 weeks on a pregnant women is conclusive.
442658 tn?1563386491 i picked up the pup and was told all the pups( litter of 8 ) had hernias. the male dogs went away but 2 females still had the hernia. i m going to take her to my vet to find out about it..thanks...
Avatar f tn My question is since my dog was neutered what could have caused him to get the hernia? I thought neutering male dogs kept them from getting this type of hernia.
Avatar n tn i have a med. size hernia which seems to lay in the diaphram area and is extremely uncomfortable, can anything be done for me?
Avatar m tn My grandson was born with CDH. H was born a month early which was probably a good thing. He was a little over 5lbs, We had no idea until he had breathing problems right at his birth, that this is what he had. It was just his intestines in his left lung. His lung was fully developed. He is 2 years old now and he is a little monster! He is bright and beautiful. He had a surgery at the children's hospital in NY and was there for 2-3 weeks. I helped his mom take care of him that summer.
Avatar f tn I think that the kind of hernia surgery you are looking at it is a relatively simple surgery, as far as surgery goes. I don't think the dog will have to be put under deep anaesthesia, the procedure is something that is done close to the surface, and it is a fairly quick operation. I would expect a healthy dog to recover well. Your boy might have some activity restrictions while he is recovering, to keep him from pulling the stitches loose and undoing the procedure.
Avatar f tn Impaired function of the phrenic nerve following cardiac bypass surgery, resulting in diaphragmatic paralysis, is not uncommon; observed in 5-15% of patients undergoing such surgery. Definitive studies have shown this complication to be related to cold-induced injury (cooling of the heart) during myocardial protection strategies and possibly to mechanical injury during internal mammary artery harvesting.
Avatar n tn I had quadruple hernia repair 2 weeks ago, umbilical, 2 inguinal and spieglian. I have also had a chronic cough. How do I know if I reinatured my umbilical hernia? I am feeling a hard knot and am not sure if it is scary tissue or hernia.
693679 tn?1227625880 I have chronic pain that starts in my naval and radiats half way up to my xyphoid. I have had multiple CT's, MRI's, and X-rays. The only that showed was a small diaphragmatic hernia. I had gastric emptying studies that com back normal. I have had to take disablity due to my "condition". I was sent to a pain management clinic. There I was told that they didn't believe the problem was mucle or skeletal. I was given a Tens unit, which did nothing.
