I have had diabetes for 7 years and recently worked with the diabetes educator at one of my local hospitals as a high school intern. We did a lot of teaching about diabetic socks. Diabetic socks are not a scam. People with diabetes are supposed to wear cotton socks so that the socks breathe. Also diabetic socks are supposed to help with keeping good circulation to the feet. Since people with diabetes need to take extra care of their feet.
I have bought socks from the Diabetic Sock Store, I think its called Therawear now, but the socks have been wonderful! I tried the Smartknit Seamless Diabetic sock, and they were really seamless. Some socks claim to be, but aren't. These socks have saved my feet, I have neuropathy. I have had neuropathy for the last 9 years. I have been to many many doctors without help I have tried all the normal meds I've been on opiates for the last several years they change my medicine and I am in uncontrolled pain for days or weeks until it is actually controlled. I have changed my diet done several different things I did find out in the past year that I am a diabetic. The first eight years I did not have diabetes.
he cant use socks for long for this as also because of the edema the socks give him, very bad marks which produce in more itching.
I tried many compression socks brands, for diabetic, several material. But since he is swollen they dont even go up, or they produce itching,
Any recommendations of brands? , We just have to keep trying :)

Has your son been diagnosed with diabetes? I ask because it's not clear if he is diabetic or if you ended up in the wrong forum.
In general, I'd suggest you work with your doctor and follow his advice. Ask him what this 'condition' is called so you can read up on it and ease your worries.
I just wondering. My husband has diabetes and had the sensory test done, but that showed to be fine. His feet and calves have (as he explains it) shocking feelings in his feet. He says its like jolts of electricity running through his legs. They hurt so bad he is unable to ware socks or shoes, I can't even touch them to rub them for him. The symptoms he has fits that of Diabetic Neuropathy, so I just wondering if the EMG would be able to see if he does have nerve damage from the diabetes.

As your husband is a diabetic and moreover there is a soft sore on the foot,so the possibility of diabetic foot is there. Diabetic foot is an umbrella term for foot problems in patients with diabetes mellitus.
To prevent diabetic foot ulcers,he should have good foot hygiene, wear diabetic socks and shoes, and avoid injury.A consultation of a podiatrist will be the best.

An allergy maybe , what material are the socks she wears, cotton is best, what does she use on her feet any creams ? how about any new shower gels .
Can anyone give me any help for my poor burning feet? I have been suffering for about 4 years. I have seen 4 doctors and so far no lasting help. I am 55 years old, normal weight and health. BUT I could cry with the pain in my feet. The burning goes away if I remove my socks and shoes and soak them in cold water.
I have seen a Neurologist, a Podiatrist, acupuncture, and my Family doctor, also a Chiropractor. Someone please help or refer me to someone who can help.
If you do not have diabetic socks aces bandages not too tight will also work. walking will help the most walking and more walking along with the hot baths with Epsom Salts. The salts force magnesium into the muscles helping them to relax also Bananas are good for the potassium. Make sure you are drinking a lot of fluids a sports drink to help balance your electrolytes may also help. Congrats on your quit!
what did work was my husband buying me these really ugly tight diabetic socks (real long and REAL tight)...that DID help. I tried bee pollen granule's as well...not sure what they did. Oh yeah, Gaba 750 available from GNC...helped with the "head" issues.
Really, other than that...time and determination. You need to become a bad *** girl right now! Suck it up and keep pushing yourself. I did the same thing your doing right now over 2 years ago....you CAN do this...
I am the mom of one diabetic child and 2 non-diabetic children. There is NO diabetes on either side of our families and the endocrinologist "suggested" it may have been caused by the recent popularity of vaccination "coctails" I can't include my oldest son in this, since he is 12 years older than my next non-diabetic child. My middle son was given more "spaced out" vaccinations and was given the chicken pox vaccination by itself at his next appointment.
Yes, these are all symptoms of type I diabetes in children. My child was wetting the bed, extremely thirsty all the time and was vomiting; his vomiting, we think, was contributed to a stomach virus he had at the time. We took him to the ER due to dehydration -they did a blood chemistry and his blood sugar was 399-they immediately admitted him to ICU and he was put on IV insulin. You have developed diabetic neuropathy, and from here on in have to take special care of your feet. Wear comfortably loosely fitting shoes and only fresh white socks. Never wear socks more than a day. Inspect your feet daily and have the toenails trimmed by a podiatrist. Immediately see a podiatrist at the slightest infection. And see a podiatrist regularly, in any event. 1000 mg of omega-3 fish oils and a slow-release niacin tablet once a day will help with microcirculation.
For the last few years, I have had increasing numbness and tingling in both my feet. Wearing socks other than diabetic socks causes painful burning. My doctor checked for diabetes, and I was negative, thank God. She said it was likely peripheral neuropathy. For the past several weeks, when walking or even standing still, I have the sensation that I am slipping on ice. I have to grab onto something or someone, because I feel like I am about to fall.
