Common Questions and Answers about Diabetic recipes for diabetics

diabetes

Avatar n tn Along with avoiding sugary foods a low to no carb diet plan is recommended for t2 diabetics. Carbs to t2 diabetics are the same as sugar - elevates our glucose [blood sugar] above and beyond acceptable levels. A very good place to look for low carb recipes is the Atkins [diet] web site http://tinyurl.com/atkins-recipes . Replace sugar with artificial sweeteners such as Splenda or Stevia.
Avatar n tn Wanted to know if you guys have any tips on snacks for diabetics as I am new at this. Plus I have a big sweet tooth. So good recipes would help! Thanks!
Avatar n tn Hi ozarkskye, my advice is based on my own experience, as I'm not a physician but have been a diabetic for 11 years. There are many diet plans for diabetics, but the ones that work best are usually custom-made for individuals, tailored to their specific needs by their nutritionist/dietitian. Was the diet plan your doctor gave you created with your input and have you discussed your concerns with him?
Avatar n tn Dear winkster, Actually a diabetic diet is really only what a healthy diet would be for people without diabetes. And fruits are a part of that even though they have sugar it get metabolized like any other carbohydrates.
176495 tn?1301280412 I'm a type 2 diabetic, 58 years old diagnosed 2.5 years ago. For quite a while I did very good job eating right but for the last year or so life has been very hectic and stressful and my eating habits have really taken a beating..my blood sugar usually averages around 130, my last A1C was 6.9 and I've gained back most of the weight (30lbs) that I lost.. can anyone recommend a good "every day" cookbook...not one where the meals look like something that belong an art museum..

Avatar m tn Types of foods to eat and types of foods to avoid has been discussed numerous times on this forum. Read other threads for tips and also use Google search for ideas on diabetics foods and recipes.
Avatar m tn You need to go to a facility that has diabetic care classes, attend them and ask questions. They are often staffed by an R.N. or a nurse practicioner and are very proficient at their jobs.
Avatar m tn I am a type two diabetic. I am on insulin and metiformin. I have been diabetic since 07. My ac1 was at 12 something last year. It came down to 9.7. Just yesterday I found out I am at 6.4 for my AC1 level. My diabetes doctor told me if I saw a weight lost doctor I could possibly have a chance of getting off of my insulin. Is that true?
Avatar n tn It seems as though many of you JDRF volunteers who are also diabetic have had it for a long time without any complications. I was wondering how you managed your diabetes and how strict you are with your diet, like do you only eat set meals throughout the day and stay away from foods with a high glycemic index? If you do eat foods with a high GI, like a banana, do you wait a while after taking your insulin to give it a headstart?
Avatar f tn What I AM saying is that you need to use care and follow the guidelines for diabetics. Avoid tropical fruits such as pineapples, mangoes, guava for they contain high amounts of fructose. For low carb recipes go to the Atkins web site. Be sure your mother regularly sees her doctor and takes her medication as instructed.
1461073 tn?1308677548 Hello I am new to this forum and was sitting on the MH site while eating 2 pieces of this pie with whipped cream on top of them (Yes I said 2, Please do not Judge me I am a Weak Chocoholic especially during the Holidays and have made 2 of these pies TWICE since Thanksgiving. Avatar n tn the normal range is 70-110
Avatar f tn I totally understand! I was diagnosed early as well and started shedding weight like crazy. Also had a total meltdown one night because i just wanted to 'eat normal' lol. There are some great recipes out there for diabetics. Try some chilis or chicken quesadilla soup with just a few tortillas on the side, maybe. I find baking with splenda really cuts down carbs without killing the flavor, as well. and find a good nutritionist.
Avatar f tn I think its high if it runs over 126 which is considered diabetic , but maybe hes had some sugary drinks , candy ?
Avatar m tn Someone with sugars over 150 is no longer a pre-diabetic and it is a necessity that he be treated with insulin. Diabetics with glucose over 300 should be treated with a combination of two different insulins (Lantus which controls insulin levels over a 24 hour period and Apidra or rDNA insulin which is fast acting and generally taken before meals) and also Metformin.
Avatar f tn I have had diabetes for 7 years at least now and im pregnant with my second child.. do any if you feel like the doctors make it hard to feel like you have a personal connection with your baby because they are constantly reminding you of all the negatives of having diabetes while pregnant. . I just went to the doc yesterday and I just feel like sad about this baby like im a bad mom or something.
Avatar n tn This is logical for the type 2 diabetic, for eating a fairly low-carbohydrate diet would not require the production of as much insulin by the already stressed pancreas. However, if insulin resistance is the main problem for a type 2 diabetic, then lowering the carb count may not really be the solution, and medications to help the insulin-resistance problem still may be needed.
Avatar n tn There are lots of brital Type 1 diabetics out there. You are not alone at all. I am not a brital diabetic but from what I have read here and other places a set regular schedule is the most effective way to help brital diabetics. Especially ones like you that have good control. Eat on a regular schedule and and test on a regular schedule and be very consistant with what you eat and when you eat it.
