Diabetic peripheral autonomic neuropathy

Common Questions and Answers about Diabetic peripheral autonomic neuropathy

diabetes

Avatar n tn People with diabetes often experience sensory loss in their feet as the initial indication of diabetic peripheral neuropathy but multiple motor and autonomic symptoms are also potential problems (that's the "poly" part). I hope that helps to sum it up a little. Do you have diabetes? Are you afraid you might have MS? If you can to tell us a little more we might be able to help you sort it out a little before you check with your doctor.
Avatar f tn One classic case is diabetic neuropathy where circumstances of diabetes mellitus can lead to peripheral ANS nerve death... and the ANS is left with bad or missing signals "inputs" and/or unresponsive "outputs"... for example, the "smooth muscles" that constrict veins throughout the body may stop responding. POTS is one type of dysautonomia.
Avatar f tn Have you been diagnosed with small fiber peripheral sensory neuropathy? Is that what you are referring to when you say is this "just more neuropathy?" http://www.medhelp.org/medical-information/show/74/Peripheral-neuropathy?page=3 If so, your doctors may not want you wearing compression down by your feet at all if that's an area where the nerves are highly affected.
Avatar m tn I am not an expert, nor do I pretend to be. I am wondering if you are experiencing Diabetic Neuropathy? Diabetic Neuropathy occurs in when blood glucose levels effect the nerves and cause changes and damage. This occurs in approximately 50% of all diabetics to one degree or another.
Avatar m tn i am a type 2 diabetic with autonomic neuropathy, and just dx'ed with type 2 bi-polar. I am on oxycontin 80mgs daily, percocet, and paxil, lamictal and heart meds and diabetic meds. I feel horrible everyday of my life. My family thinks thinks its all the meds. I am a very stowic person but, this is slowly beating. what specialist should I be seeing?
Avatar f tn peripheral, autonomic, focal etc. I have the peripheral, autonomic and focal as I have it on my ribcage. The pain on the ribcage is very instense...so much so, it is hard to breath sometimes and my voice becomes hoarse. My recommendation is to have a nerve function test. Neuropathy manifests itself if a person has had diabetes for a long period of time such as is the case with us. Ruling out any cardiovascular problems is really important too.
Avatar n tn I know it must be difficult for her and for you as well to watch her go through this. I looked up some authoritative sites about autonomic neuropathy in diabetics and I basically found information explaining what is called "diabetic diarrhea": "Diabetic diarrhea - is autonomic neuropathy that results in an erratic functioning of the small intestine. This can cause unformed stools to be passed.
Avatar m tn I have some autonomic dysfunction as well as peripheral neuropathy type symptoms (cold feet, exacerbated nerve pain at night, some tingling running through feet) I have not had a punch or EMG, but I have had all the autonomic tests. I passed the QSART. Had exaggerated HR increase during the tilt table with a potential fit for POTS. Does the passed QSART rule out peripheral neuropathy (or generally, true neuropathy / physical nerve damage)?
Avatar n tn s wearing tight socks). Is this diabetic peripheral neurapathy? He has no other symptoms...excessive thirst, excessive unrinating, etc. He has a doctor's appointment next Tuesday but I want a few answers now. Any ideas?

Avatar f tn Does anyone have any knowledge about autonomic (or peripheral) neuropathy with cachexia? Neuropathy present, likely result of previous TBI. Patient is wasting away even though daily intake is nutritionally dense and sufficient. No diabetes, hiv, cancer, tumors, autoimmune, or eating disorders.
Avatar m tn She could be having autonomic neuropathy which affects the digestive system and it could affect the heart (heartbeat) and blood pressure. She has neropathies already. I have both peripheral and autonomic neuropathy as well as focal. Anyway, I take neurontin instead of lyrica and like her, I cannot stop taking it because the pain "kicks in". For my autonomic neuropathy and gastroparesis, I take Reglan and it seems to help during flare-ups.
1527789 tn?1324925160 The results suggest that vitamin B12 deficiency causes autonomic dysfunction with similar hemodynamic consequences and patterns of autonomic failure as seen in diabetic autonomic neuropathy. Defective sympathetic activation may be the cause for orthostatic hypotension, which is occasionally seen in patients with vitamin B12 deficiency. It is concluded that patients with orthostatic hypotension should be screened for cobalamin deficiency." Read the abstract at http://www.autneu-journal.
Avatar f tn Well, alcohol and some medications can cause peripheral neuropathy, which means they can destroy your autonomic nerves. http://www.medhelp.org/medical-information/show/74 I don't know about Xanax, and it wasn't on the MedHelp list of possible causes. The best way to find out is probably to talk to your pharmacist and ask if Xanax can cause peripheral neuropathy.
251222 tn?1270936117 Hello everyone, it is with a joyous heart I can say --- I have escaped the barren wasteland known to us as Limbo Land, and now officially have - 'diabetic autonomic neuropathy + peripheral neuropathy'. In 23 days, it would have been 5 years that I wandered, mostly lost. I wanted to share this with you, because of nearly anyone in the world, I know all of you could understand how much this means. This is thanks to my great new doc.
612876 tn?1355514495 s some news from the front lines (the bleeding edge of research, so to speak) on diabetic peripheral neuropathy. This may be relevant to a few of our community members so I thought it would be appropriate to share: http://www.physorg.com/news203337267.html I do not know if there might be any implications from this research on other forms of peripheral neuropathy.
Avatar f tn Numbness, tingling (feeling of pins and needles) of hands and/or feet Burning of hands and/or feet Numbness around mouth Constipation Loss of sensation to touch Loss of positional sense (knowing where a body part is without looking). Weakness and leg cramping or any pain in hands and/or feet Difficulty picking things up or buttoning clothes ..... Link to the complete article: http://www.chemocare.com/managing/numbness__tingling.
697167 tn?1259569969 Do you have it? If so, then diabetic neuropathy (aka peripheral neuropathy) is a definite possibility. The neurologist should be familiar with it and be able to test you. http://www.medhelp.org/medical-information/show/74 http://www.medhelp.
Avatar f tn I was also just recently diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy after years of BS from doctors. My neuropathy presents with more autonomic symptoms, as opposed to pain. Reading your profile it seems yours is the other way around. Yes, vision and hearing can change because of neuropathy. Pupil dilation/focusing are functions of the autonomic system. I'm going next week to have my eyes checked out. My hearing is still "normal", but it used to be exceptional.
757137 tn?1347196453 Further to "Peripheral Neuropathy," is benfotiamine helpful? I found it on the net, but know nothing about it.
