Diabetic neuropathy affects all nerves therefor it can also affect all organs. The blood flow is restricted do to the vessels which supplies the nerves. This is a very common illness that Diabetics can suffer from. Depending on how long your mom had Diabetes, that is how the treatment will be determent, which only a Dr. can do.

Avatar f tn They did blood work and everything was fine there, they did a MRI on my back thinking maybe lumbar or a disc problem but there was a slight encroachment but that was not causing foot drop. They checked for diabetes and I was not diabetic. The Dr. Gave me an EMG and discovered nerve damage but could not locate exactly where but estimated it was from my hip. He called it sciatic neuropathy with unknown cause. I received a foot brace that fit in my shoe and it helped a little.

The best defense and treatment for this is to improve the self monitoring of blood glucose, keeping it at normal levels helps prevent the problems. i can sympathize because i have a bit of the neuropathy in my foot and this may be from the fact that at the beginning of my 31 years as a diabetic they didn't control blood glucose as well as they can now.

Avatar m tn She has also doubled my meds so I am now taking for the burning 800mg Metformin (4) times a day and (2) Percocet 512 every (4) hours for pain. I am supposed to start pain management where someone can dial in the meds to stop the pain but I can't get them to call me back. Thanks for your concern!
Avatar m tn I have diabetic neuropath. I have taken Lyrica for the nerve pain, and for me it was miraculous. I could walk again, swimm, didn't hurt. II have had to quit taking it because of the cost, but neurontin is going to be my next try. There are several meds out there.
