Avatar m tn We have been through the education, but I was trying to expand a little and find some interesting meals that would be healthy and delicious for the whole family.
579670 tn?1218213544 Hi, i am doing Food technology GCSE and my coursework is to design and make a range of products suitable for a diabetic that could be sold in the healthy eating section of a supermarket. Part of my research is to produce a diabetic questionnaire asking relevant questions which would help me with my coursework. Since i do not know anybody with diabetes it would be very helpful if anyone with diabetes could complete the questionnaire. Many Thanks x 1. What type of dish do you enjoy most?
Avatar f tn What do you think of this situation. I have been a T2 diabetic for 9 years. diagnosed in Colorado. Through diet and exercise I became totally controlled, BG before eating 74 to 90 and after eating , never above 180 My Dr said" If he didn't know I was a diabetic he would swear I wasn't" I moved to a different state, New Dr. He told me ( after Blood work) That I wasn't a diabetic and never had been. I argued with him , told him what my Dr in Co. had said...
Avatar f tn t labeling him as diabetic because his sugar levels DO drop below normal, which never happens once a person becomes diabetic -- once diabetes is the real diagnosis, the glucose levels are always high until treated with insulin or oral meds (depending on whether the person is type 1 or type 2). So I suspect that the reason you get different answers is because your son is fluctuating between diabetic-high levels and hypoglycemic-low levels, and therefore does not fit a typical diagnosis.
Avatar n tn You had diabetic testing done and you stated that it is negative so you are not diabetic. Maybe eat 5-6 small meals a day to keep your blood sugars constant throughout the day. See if that would help your trembling. If not then, I recommend you see the MD who suggested it to be anxiety.
1770925 tn?1365618522 There is much info on diabetics with hyperglycemia but very little on one that have hyperglycemia. I have a low sugar problem, that go to hypoglycemic symptoms, and doctors that only treat high sugar oroblems. Where can I find info on treatment of my type diabetic?
325405 tn?1262290178 Haven't yet been in to see an endocrinologist or a dietary person to talk blood sugar levels and diet. Am having problems dealing with my insurance company who won't even cover my stupid testing strips. They basically are $1 a strip. Expensive. I had gestational diabetes several years ago (gestational diabetes was covered 100% for supplies and visits), so I am aware of how to do all the blood testing and have been doign fine about that.
231441 tn?1333892766 Add a short acting insulin before meals (or before selected meals) to prevent post meal highs. This is appropriate if fasting insulin is normal but blood sugars go high after eating. It may also be used only for selected meals, if there are only some meals / foods that cause problems. 3. Add both a long acting and a short acting insulin.
369861 tn?1306275686 The 5-6 small meals should help keep your blood sugars more stable. You say "More protein than starches". You do need carbs but try to go for the complex carbs that take longer to break down and simple carbs like sugar. Fruits and veggies both have fiber (complex carb), plus there's whole wheat bread, oatmeal, cereals, etc.
Avatar f tn You may have pre-diabetes, and need to go on a diabetic diet. Meanwhile, make sure you have both protein and carbohydrates with all meals, and with all snacks, which you seem to be doing. You also might need to get a dietary consult and/or see an endocrinologist, for both are specially trained in working with people with blood sugar problems.
Avatar f tn Hi, to be diagnosed with diabetes so early in your pregnancy actually means that the diabetes was prexisting. Maybe it was just managed with diet and exercise before. I was in the same situation with my first pregnancy. Diagnosed pretty much as soon as I know i was pregnant. I managed it with diet and exercise up until about 3 months after which I was on insulin. For this new pregnancy (I am now 2 months), I started on insulin about 2 months before I got pregnant.
733939 tn?1231773355 You are on the right track so take a deep breath and hang in there! I disagree with the person who said you are a "half step from being put on insulin". I'm sorry, but it doesn't work that way! For a Type II diabetic the correct step for you and your doctor to take is to start you on some oral medications and help you to learn the right way to eat. I agree with the person who said not to think of it as a diet but as good nutrition. Please don't be afraid to eat!
Avatar f tn s been stressful planning these meals around the holidays (diabetic-friendly, dairy-free, gluten-free meals are hard to come by). Thanks so much!
Avatar n tn 30 minutes to 1 hour after a meal, I start feeling weakness, tiredness, dizziness and (sometimes only) my Blood Suger falls down drastically. I feel weaknewss after little movement from here to there, short breathing after limbing one storey of staircase, fainting-like feelings, including palpitation. Shoft breath, palpitation, fainting like feelings go away within a minutge or so after sitting/rersting but weakness continues the whole. Weakness is in general but particularly in leges.
Avatar m tn There are many issues one can face when they have been diagnosed with diabetes. One of the most frustrating is memory loss. Memory loss can occur in most people as they age. But sometimes, memory loss can be due to circulatory problems and hormonal changes in the body. To prevent memory loss when a person has diabetes, one should change their diet to include foods with fiber, protein, and calcium that will stimulate blood flow and also help replace some of the nutrients lost.
212161 tn?1599427282 Hi, your fasting levels are diabetic (i think the cut off is about 126), and your post eating are too high. They should always be less than 140 and ideally even lower than 120. So I think you need to work harder at controlling blood sugars (diet - lower carb is best), exercise and weight loss. If you can't manage with these you need to ask your doctor about meds to help.
Avatar n tn Glucose rise with age? No. I don't know of anyone who consistently hits the same fasting number every single time. Fasting levels between 70 (some say 72) and 100 are considered good. Keep in mind the optimum number is in the middle. The closer you are to 70 or 100 you run the risk. Nutrition and exercise are the keys to a healthy non-diabetic body.
Avatar n tn You want to eat several times a day verses 3 meals a day. Not only does this keep your blood sugar from spiking and dropping, it keeps your metabolism up which will make you lose weight. Avoid bad carbs, and greasy, fatty foods. Try to get in a salad everyday, protein, fruits, eggs, nuts, etc. You will be a healthier, thinner person when you eat this way. Keep portions at a minimum, and even if you just walk, you will be doing one of the best exercises there is!
Avatar n tn Just curious on this one, if i stay under good control most of the time, will i still live a long life? or will my life be shortent by liek 20-25 years like my doctor said it will be?
Avatar f tn hi all, i'm 32 yrs and i hav 3 kids, my last is 2yrs old. i hav PCOS, but not diabetic, jus overweight, maybe by about 40lbs or so. my dr put me on bc to help regulate my cycle, which it did perfectly, before tht, 8mths would pass i and i wouldn't get a period. i was on bc for almost 2yrs, but came off it cuz we want to try for another baby(my hus is not gettin any younger lol). a few days after coming off bc i started takin metformin, it's been about 10 days.
Avatar f tn " I have gone from 20 units of novolog before meals to 6 units of novolog before meals in 3 weeks." You failed to tell us your reason/s why you lowered your dose. Is it from your Addison's post "My diabetic dr. told me she wants me to start decreasing my insulin intake." "Still eating same as always." Not changing lifestyle habits - poor nutrition - only compounds matters. Why haven't you made changes?
Avatar m tn My dog is diabetic and will not eat the prescribed food. How long should I make it available for her to eat. She cannot have a shot unless she eats a full meal.
Avatar n tn per carbs, per starches, per snack, etc Most endocrinologists will put a diabetic patient who uses insulin on a sliding scale of insulin, depending on what the blood glucose is when you test before a meal. What did your doctor tell you?
Avatar f tn t seem to be having immediate negative reactions, if you are pre-diabetic or diabetic going for long periods of time without eating is making your body work way too hard.
Avatar m tn Help, 59 year old male, t2 diabetic since 1996, lantus 75 units at bed time, novalog as needed @ 1:4 ratio...This is not working I have spiked at over 500 and the control is gone I take my shots and have been told to take them about 1 hour before meals? EG; BG before lunch 174 two hours after is now 265 with my shots.
Avatar f tn The times to test are mornings before breakfast, before each lunch and dinner meals and 2-3 hours after each meal. Before meals so you can get a baseline reading. After meals so you can see how the foods you ate affected your glucose levels. Normal after meal levels are <180 mg/dl [<=less than] where some doctors want <140 mg/dl. If you go over these numbers avoid those foods. Your A1c will show how well you are controlling and managing your glucose. The goal is below 6%.
Avatar n tn t think that it makes any difference whether your child eats regular meals or variable meals with snacks as long as you know how to count the carbohydrates and adjust insulin accordingly. Obviously, those who eat according to a set meal plan have their lives simplified by not having to do the math for every single meal, but some folks prefer to have the flexibility of being able to eat what they want to and adjust the insulin.
