579670 tn?1218213544 Hi, i am doing Food technology GCSE and my coursework is to design and make a range of products suitable for a diabetic that could be sold in the healthy eating section of a supermarket. Part of my research is to produce a diabetic questionnaire asking relevant questions which would help me with my coursework. Since i do not know anybody with diabetes it would be very helpful if anyone with diabetes could complete the questionnaire. Many Thanks x 1. What type of dish do you enjoy most?
Avatar f tn What do you think of this situation. I have been a T2 diabetic for 9 years. diagnosed in Colorado. Through diet and exercise I became totally controlled, BG before eating 74 to 90 and after eating , never above 180 My Dr said" If he didn't know I was a diabetic he would swear I wasn't" I moved to a different state, New Dr. He told me ( after Blood work) That I wasn't a diabetic and never had been. I argued with him , told him what my Dr in Co. had said...
1770925 tn?1365618522 There is much info on diabetics with hyperglycemia but very little on one that have hyperglycemia. I have a low sugar problem, that go to hypoglycemic symptoms, and doctors that only treat high sugar oroblems. Where can I find info on treatment of my type diabetic?
Avatar f tn Hi, to be diagnosed with diabetes so early in your pregnancy actually means that the diabetes was prexisting. Maybe it was just managed with diet and exercise before. I was in the same situation with my first pregnancy. Diagnosed pretty much as soon as I know i was pregnant. I managed it with diet and exercise up until about 3 months after which I was on insulin. For this new pregnancy (I am now 2 months), I started on insulin about 2 months before I got pregnant.
Avatar f tn s been stressful planning these meals around the holidays (diabetic-friendly, dairy-free, gluten-free meals are hard to come by). Thanks so much!
Avatar n tn 30 minutes to 1 hour after a meal, I start feeling weakness, tiredness, dizziness and (sometimes only) my Blood Suger falls down drastically. I feel weaknewss after little movement from here to there, short breathing after limbing one storey of staircase, fainting-like feelings, including palpitation. Shoft breath, palpitation, fainting like feelings go away within a minutge or so after sitting/rersting but weakness continues the whole. Weakness is in general but particularly in leges.
Avatar f tn " I have gone from 20 units of novolog before meals to 6 units of novolog before meals in 3 weeks." You failed to tell us your reason/s why you lowered your dose. Is it from your Addison's post "My diabetic dr. told me she wants me to start decreasing my insulin intake." "Still eating same as always." Not changing lifestyle habits - poor nutrition - only compounds matters. Why haven't you made changes?
Avatar m tn My dog is diabetic and will not eat the prescribed food. How long should I make it available for her to eat. She cannot have a shot unless she eats a full meal.
Avatar n tn per carbs, per starches, per snack, etc Most endocrinologists will put a diabetic patient who uses insulin on a sliding scale of insulin, depending on what the blood glucose is when you test before a meal. What did your doctor tell you?
Avatar f tn t seem to be having immediate negative reactions, if you are pre-diabetic or diabetic going for long periods of time without eating is making your body work way too hard.
Avatar m tn Help, 59 year old male, t2 diabetic since 1996, lantus 75 units at bed time, novalog as needed @ 1:4 ratio...This is not working I have spiked at over 500 and the control is gone I take my shots and have been told to take them about 1 hour before meals? EG; BG before lunch 174 two hours after is now 265 with my shots.
Avatar n tn t think that it makes any difference whether your child eats regular meals or variable meals with snacks as long as you know how to count the carbohydrates and adjust insulin accordingly. Obviously, those who eat according to a set meal plan have their lives simplified by not having to do the math for every single meal, but some folks prefer to have the flexibility of being able to eat what they want to and adjust the insulin.
391686 tn?1225168008 /Taking any medications in the evenings?/What are his evening meals like? I believe he is diabetic. If that is the cause he could have diabetic neuropathy. Secondly, the GP should be referring him to a Neurologist to follow up.
Avatar n tn I doubt it because you can eat healthy meals, do exercise and loose weight. They wouldn't take that as an excuse. But I thought that you could not be in the ARMY if you have diabetes. You could have a lot of low sugars or even pass out while your training.
Avatar n tn I have been recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and I am convinced that I am either not diabetic or not managing my injections properly. I was admitted into hospital with 4+ketones on October 28th 2005 where I stayed on an insulin feed for 4 days, now on 4 injections a day but sufferring at least one hypo a day.
Avatar f tn So I mentioned that I had just a new job, and am 28 weeks along. They actually need a doctors request for me to be allowed to sit down, and eat whenever I need to. I'm also a type one diabetic, and they didn't want me to eat at all, and Iworked a ten hour shift without sitting. I mean, most jobs would think it obvious that a pregnant woman would need to sit every couple of hours. Not to mention being diabetic I have very good reason to eat my meals.....!
Avatar f tn I drink tons of water and split up my meals! Are you on insulin? Btw i was a diabetic on insulin before pregnancy. My last a1c was a 5.
325405 tn?1262290178 m testing about 100 to 110 in the morning and about 110 to 130 after meals. If I forget to take my metformin at night, my fasting level is usually around 120 to 130. But, with the medicine it is 100 to 110 fasting. Is this good? Is it supposed to be under 90? Or can I not aim for that goal since I'm a diabetic and is it unrealistic? When I was gestational diabetic I had to aim for under 90 fasting and under 120 for after meals, which I ended up on insulin while pregnant to do so.
176495 tn?1301280412 I'm a type 2 diabetic, 58 years old diagnosed 2.5 years ago. For quite a while I did very good job eating right but for the last year or so life has been very hectic and stressful and my eating habits have really taken a beating..my blood sugar usually averages around 130, my last A1C was 6.9 and I've gained back most of the weight (30lbs) that I lost.. can anyone recommend a good "every day" cookbook...not one where the meals look like something that belong an art museum..
Avatar n tn 7, 1:9 and 1:18 so I take one unit of insulin for every 7, 9 or 18 carbs.) I would suggest also the book Using Insulin by John Walsh.
Avatar m tn Some people have normal or close to normal fasting but high post prandials (after meals) Do you have a meter for home testing? I would suggest getting one and then testing at different times such as fasting and two hours after a meal. This not only shows your level of blood sugar but also shows you the effect of different foods so you can change your diet to keep your blood sugar in range.
231441 tn?1333892766 Add a short acting insulin before meals (or before selected meals) to prevent post meal highs. This is appropriate if fasting insulin is normal but blood sugars go high after eating. It may also be used only for selected meals, if there are only some meals / foods that cause problems. 3. Add both a long acting and a short acting insulin.
Avatar n tn I have two small meals, which usually consists of 4oz portion of lean protein, one serving of vegetables and one low fat serving of dairy. My lean protein is cooked in extra virgin olive oil. I supplement these small meals with 3-4 snacks, which consist of veggies and low fat dip, a piece of cheese wrapped in low fat luncheon ,meat, peanuts, fruit, etc. I eat at 9, 11, 1, 3, and 5. I will have a small snack at 7 if I am still hungry. I have an appt. with my dr on Friday.
369861 tn?1306275686 The 5-6 small meals should help keep your blood sugars more stable. You say "More protein than starches". You do need carbs but try to go for the complex carbs that take longer to break down and simple carbs like sugar. Fruits and veggies both have fiber (complex carb), plus there's whole wheat bread, oatmeal, cereals, etc.
Avatar f tn The expected glucose range for a non-diabetic non-pregnant fasting adult is 74-106. One to two hours after meals, levels should beless than 160 according to WHO guidlines. You should test when you first get up in the morning then two hours after you eat breakfast. Then before and after meals and before bed to get a good idea of what your blood sugar is doing throught the day for a couple of days at least. Plus write down what you eat and when when testing.
Avatar f tn with my son my levels were so under control they wondered if I really was diabetic. I fail the curves very well. they should get you hooked up with a monitor to test your self at home. each Dr is different. I was told to test my fasting over night bg, before meals and two hours post meal. so its kind of like running a mini curve every day for me. this being the second time around with gd my levels are harder to control which can be normal.
Avatar n tn What are some great quick and easy meals for breakfast lunch and dinner that are super low carb... I am a type one diabetic and because of the medicine im on its hard to loose weight... But this has worked in the past and I am bored of eating the same meals over and over ... Thank you !
Avatar n tn To do so yourself you have to eat consistent meals, of approximately the same number of calories. If you eat in a senior center the number of calories are about the same every day. Then you have to start a period of intense testing with blood sticks. That means when you get up. Before a meal, and two hours after a meal. A lot depends on the diabetic medications you are on. There are different kinds of insulin and each requires a slightly different procedure.
Avatar f tn That makes sense to a point. The other thing I don't understand is I have been told that Type1 diabetes is a "one minute you're fine and the next you're diabetic" disease. That seems to be why they don't want to look any more into my sons issues. But from what I've read and from people I know whose kids are diabetic it can happen over quite a length of time before it gets severe enough to be diagnosed. So I'm really wondering which it is.
