Avatar n tn May I ask how you eat your meals? I've been type 2 diabetic for about 6 months and I've found it helps me to eat small meals more frequently, otherwise I seem to have high's and low's which is what we want to avoid.
Avatar n tn t think that it makes any difference whether your child eats regular meals or variable meals with snacks as long as you know how to count the carbohydrates and adjust insulin accordingly. Obviously, those who eat according to a set meal plan have their lives simplified by not having to do the math for every single meal, but some folks prefer to have the flexibility of being able to eat what they want to and adjust the insulin.
Avatar n tn I was informed that carbs are ok in proportion. You also must eat 5 small meals spaced evenly through the day. Low GI foods are great. Talk to your dr if you have GD you may need insulin and more intensive care or monitoring. It's not something to rely on half guesses with. Good luck.
369861 tn?1306275686 The 5-6 small meals should help keep your blood sugars more stable. You say "More protein than starches". You do need carbs but try to go for the complex carbs that take longer to break down and simple carbs like sugar. Fruits and veggies both have fiber (complex carb), plus there's whole wheat bread, oatmeal, cereals, etc.
Avatar n tn My godchild is Type 1 Diabetic she is 5 years old and she is on humalog and protafyn. Her sugar spikes a lot then it is high in the 20 reading and then she is low. What is the cause of the spiking. She does not take any sugar onl 1 canderel tablet.
Avatar m tn I have had several bouts of low blood sugar recently and my doctor says i am not diabetic just to eat more protein and less carbs which i have been doing but i still get dizzy, sweaty and shaky several times a week even though i eat three meals and a snack or two. I cut out most sweets. My wife has a blood sugar meter and i have confirmed it is low when i feel this way. Enough rambling, My question is can being extremely lazy and sedentary cause hypoglycemia? P.S.
Avatar n tn i've been a diabetic type 1 for 17 years..an was wondering if a diabetic that takes Lantus an Humalog regular, could i just take the lantus alone without the Humalog??
193177 tn?1218690401 You should be consuming a minimum of 45grams of carbs at every meal and more for that kind of insulin regime and you should be eating atleast every 5 hours if not splitting up your meals into 6 small meals a day. Sounds like (and I am no doctor - just another Type II diabetic) that your ping ponging.
Avatar f tn Your responses to carbs does not sound diabetic. On the other hand, diabetics start out with different patterns. If you regularly have high fasting numbers that might be where your most difficulty is with blood sugar (it is called Dawn Phenomonon.). Has your doctor done other tests besides the fasting? An A1C would show your average blood sugars over a period of a couple month. An OGTT would show your reaction to a sugary drink over a period of two hours.
Avatar n tn I have had type 2 diabetes for 16 years and have always had trouble with my levels. An uncontrolable brittle diabetic my doc calld me. Playing defense taking 3 different types of insulin a day all day. Recently my doc changed my insulins to 1 toujeo but it is impartive that I take fast acting with every meal according to the carb count.I have no idea what I'm doing. And despite my efforts they still sky rocket after I eat.
Avatar n tn Hey there! I don't think you need to limit yourself to a certain amount of carbs per day. I would recommend trying a high protein and high fiber diet. Also try meal planning. Having a plan will ensure that you aren't going overboard on carbs, and knowing how many carbs you'll have for each meal will help you plan your bolus more correctly.
Avatar f tn Eat regular small sized meals / snacks (every 3 - 4 hours). Snacks/meals should always contain protein and healthy fats - carbs mostly from vegetables, nuts, unsweetened dairy. Thisdm should help keep your blood sugar stable. Are you on any medications? Have you had any testing by your Dr? Do you monitor blood sugar after eating? When are you seeing these lower numbers?
Avatar n tn I would also recommend eating small, frequent meals that are low in carbs (esp. sugar) and high in protein. I also have a sugar intolerance and I have to cut out all refined sugars and carbs and I'm eating a lot more protein and veggies.
Avatar n tn "1 unit for every 50mg/dl over 100 mg/dl. Problem being I am always 100 + - before meals and don't need insulin." Is the former your scale? If yes, why do you say "don't need insulin"? "I been waiting 2 hrs and using it to get from my normal 250 - 300 (After meals) down to an acceptable level.<140." Levels of 250-300 anytime are dangerous.
Avatar f tn Now I am 44 years old, 3 weeks ago I was told that I am type 2 diabetic with low levels (4.3), My doctor put me on metformin only and no other drug. This is what's going on now when I exercise, clean the house, or go to work throughout the day it drops fast 100 to 70 in 22 minutes and drops more after that. I eat or drink something very sweet to get back up but don't last long and it start to drop. I need help to understand what I am doing wrong?
Avatar n tn Portion control is what most of us find works best. Veggie carbs and most fruit carbs are better for you than cake or candy. Meats are essentially no carbs. Potatoes and rice are OK but in very small servings. I eat one salad a day and avoid dressings high in carbs. If I am going to be more active than normal, I may replace the salad with something with a low carb count. Diabetics that use insulin and increase their activity level find that they use less insulin.
Avatar f tn So I suspect that the reason you get different answers is because your son is fluctuating between diabetic-high levels and hypoglycemic-low levels, and therefore does not fit a typical diagnosis. Doctors can't treat with meds as long as the child is producing enough insulin to go low at times. So really all you can do is to watch his patterns and see if you can figure out what triggers highs and what triggers lows. There may be certain foods that cause either extreme.
Avatar f tn After meals (2 or 3 hours) i feel hungry. So what is the best low calorie food that makes you fill "full". Sorry for my bad english.
