Avatar n tn Hi ozarkskye, my advice is based on my own experience, as I'm not a physician but have been a diabetic for 11 years. There are many diet plans for diabetics, but the ones that work best are usually custom-made for individuals, tailored to their specific needs by their nutritionist/dietitian. Was the diet plan your doctor gave you created with your input and have you discussed your concerns with him?
Avatar f tn Still I cannot lose weight. I am a pro-diabetic and it is very important that I lose weight. Please help!
Avatar n tn My wedding is next year, and i really would love some advice or meal tip/ excercise plans which other diabetic people have used and have worked. I'm sure if i could control my cravings i can do it.
Avatar f tn I can honestly say crash diets are not that great for long term weight loss. I have always been quite a large child, whilst all my siblings were rather tiny and I struggled so much with Weight but what I felt worked best was eating lots of protein and lean meats with lots of vegetables. I also found green tea with lemon and raspberry tea quite effective. It takes time but you'll get there.
Avatar n tn I have had success limiting carbs to 60 per meal. This not only keeps the readings in non-diabetic territory but leads to significant weight loss; 60 lbs in my case over 12 months.
2217782 tn?1394363972 Have you thought about working out instead of dieting? I know that weight loss plans usually include both, but because you have an ED, maybe simply adding a workout regimen would be healthier. I usually do five days a week, three days cardio (45-50 minutes a day) and two days strength training (varies, 30-45 minutes a session). Just make sure you don't start eating more than you currently do when you start working out.
Avatar f tn Try doing the diabetes/gestational diabetes diet...the basics... limit carbs intake to 30g per meal, cut as much sugars as possible (I drank fruit juices, soda, Starbucks coffee loaded with sugar, ate ice cream and candy-- and eliminated 95%), and they have a lot of awesome recipes on pinterest... I was told I have GD and was forced to change my eating habits to diabetic eating habits and have lost weight... I haven't gained anything this pregnancy and I'm 36 weeks pregnant...

944631 tn?1246280052 Metformin is a glucose lowering drug, phentermine is for weight loss and dicyclomine is for irritable bowel. You need to ask this doctor if he has run a glucose test on you and if he has determined that you are diabetic. I am a diabetic and I take metformin...if you are NOT a diabetic, ask the doctor why he has put you on metformin!! Metformin will lower your blood sugar and you need to be informed about possible hypoglycemic events...call your doctor now! Please let us know what he says...
Avatar f tn My doctor said that a healthy weight for me (because I am big boned) would be 160 lbs, and I would really like accomplish that by June (my senior prom). I have always had trouble with weight loss. I get tired very easily, so working out is difficult. However, I can't seem to keep on a diet. Whenever I try, I will lose a solid 5 or so pounds, and then cave and gain it all back. Can someone help please?
Avatar n tn So yes, you should get tested (A1C and/or OGTT) and meanwhile you should read up a bit on diabetes and watch for symptoms such as frequent urination and thirst as well as weight loss. But if you are pre-diabetic you might not have any symptoms. Eat regularly, get some exercise and if you have excess weight work on a moderate plan to lose the weight.
Avatar f tn I am a 66 y/o newly diagnosed diabetic. Went to hospital with chest pains and found out I was diabetic. Miraculously no damage done to eyes, feet, kidneys but discovered a heart anomaly. I started out at 254 lbs and I dieted all last year and was unsuccessful with losing weight. On Dec 5 my doctor prescribed Metformin 1500 mg at night, but I have been taking in the morning.
Avatar m tn It may still be able to be managed with diet, exercise, and weight loss. Else your doctor may add in some oral medications. Hope this helps.

Avatar m tn United States Department of Agriculture has a great web site for a beginner to start out at forming their own personalized meal plans. http://www.mypyramid.gov/ Keep in mind a serving doesn't consist of an entire item. One apple could be 2 or more fruit servings.

Begin a program of gradual healthy weight loss combined with regular exercise. Blood Sugar 101 is a good general book about diabetes and you can access it online as well. Many people ask "what can I eat and what must I not eat?" and that is not a black and white answer.
