diabetic, but I have been on the South Beach diet for about 12 weeks, which is a diet that greatly restricts the use of refined sugars (i.e. table sugar, fruit juice, white bread, white pasta, etc.) but encourages the use of complex carbohydrates, such a beans, whole wheat/grain products, starchy vegetables, etc. I eat small meals about every 2-4 hours. I have lost 25 pounds so far.
