870040 tn?1252615119 I really wished we would have pushed for more specific reasoning as to why the secondary debulking was not recommended. My Mom is overweight, diabetic, and our gynonc doctor seemed to make it more about those types of body habitus factors than the actual procedure. We felt like she was saying we didn't 'deserve' a second shot because of Mom's weight and other conditions, and that the disease would kill her anyways, so why try?
Avatar m tn I am an insulin dependent diabetic for the last forty years. My diet is healthy, I am active ( I exercise at least twice a week for more than an hour at a time), my eyesight is good (no laser treatment yet), test my blood sugar levels at least 7 times a day and take 4 shots every day. Basically I do what I am meant to do(most of the time).

176401 tn?1339369307 It is with much sadness that I am writing this to let you know that our dear Kelly passed away yesterday. She was only 49 years old. Some of you may remember Kelly as Kellykil. She came on this forum when she was diagnosed in July 2007. Kelly only had a couple of months remission. She was, by far, the most positive, exuberant person I have ever met. Kelly and I became friends and traveled together to Windriver Services Retreat in NC in 2007 and Camp Mak-a-Dream in Montana in September 2008.

Avatar n tn Hi, It's really great to hear of all these long living diabetic people. I'm 50 and was diagnosed type 1 when I was 17. So far I have nearly always worked full time - earlier as a nurse and more recently as a primary teacher. I have one beautiful daughter now 19 and I suppose that's why I asked the question of life expectancy. She is at uni and plans to be a Lawyer so lots more years before grand children.
Avatar f tn I'm so sorry Kelly, for this devastating news. Even when you know something is wrong, it's still a shock to learn that a loved one has been diagnosed with a serious illness. It will take time to sink in. Does your brother have access to a good medical team? I hope he does, and am glad for him that he has a shoulder to lean on in you.
Avatar m tn The reason for this I chose to keep on living the way I wanted to instead of how I should. Being a diabetic can do all kinds of damage to all of your body including your organs. Sometimes diabetics end up with nerve damaage, and it can happen anywhere in your body including your stomach. Please don't jump to conclusions. The first thing you should do is eat right and exercise. Whatever you do don't stop living. It does not have to be the end of your life.
1902785 tn?1321903724 Thanks Kelly....And where are you in Colorado? I live in Fort Collins and have had so much better care here than I had in California with Kaiser there. I have Rocky Mt. Healthcare and Medicare now. Helps a bunch since I am on such a low income. I used to be a systems analyst and now it's hard to remember how to spell it! Ha! You have to have a sense of humor. I love to cook and love to travel when I can afford it and feel well enough.
Avatar n tn I have been pre diabetic diagnosed for 2 weeks but my BG is all over the place will it settle down soon ?
